अस्थिमज्ज्ञः समभवत्ततो वै शुक्रमादिशेत् तत्रापः प्रथमो भागः स सौम्यो राशिरुच्यते
Bone and marrow are formed; then semen is said to arise. There, water is the first part, which is called the lunar portion.
ततः क्ष्मासंभवो ज्ञेयो द्वितीयो राशिरुच्यते
Then, the origin from earth is to be known as the second portion.
भवो रसात्मकस्तेषां वीर्यं च शशिपावकम्
Their origin is of essence; their vigor is the fire and the moon.
कफस्य पृथिवी स्थानं पित्तं नाभौ प्रतिष्ठितम् नाभिकोष्ठांतरस्थं तु तत्र देवो दिवाकरः ।।1.157.
The place of phlegm is earth; bile is established in the navel. The sun god dwells within the navel cavity.
मनः प्रजापतिर्ज्ञेयः कफः सोमो विभाव्यते
The mind is to be known as Prajapati; phlegm is manifest as Soma.
एवं प्रवर्तिते गर्भे वर्धितेंऽबुदसन्निभे
Thus, when the embryo is established and grows, resembling a water bubble.
ततोंऽगानि विसृजते बिभर्ति परिवर्तयन्
Then he releases the limbs, sustaining them as he transforms.
प्राणोस्य प्रथमं स्थानं वर्धयन्परिवर्तते व्यानोऽथ व्यापको देहे समानः सन्निवर्तते
His breath, being the first seat, grows and circulates; then vyāna, the all-pervading one in the body, and samāna, return to their places.
भूतावाप्तिस्ततस्तस्य जायतींद्रियगोचरा
From that, the attainment of the elements arises, and the range of the senses is born.
तस्येंद्रियाणि पिष्टानि स्वंस्वं योगं प्रचक्रमुः
His senses, having been formed, each engaged in their own function.
निद्रा ह्याकाशयोनिश्च जलाश्रये प्रवर्तते
Sleep, indeed, has its origin in space and operates with water as its support.
ग्रामाश्च विषयाश्चैव यस्य वीर्यं प्रवर्तितम्
Villages and sense-objects, indeed, are set in motion by his energy.
स कथं देवदेवेशो गर्भमेष्यति चांशुमान्
How can that radiant Lord of the gods enter the womb?
एवं मे संशयो ब्रह्मन्नेष मे विस्मयो महान् 1.157.
Thus, O Brahman, this is my doubt; this is my great wonder.
आश्चर्यं परमं पृच्छे त्वामहं भास्करस्य वै
I ask you about this supreme marvel concerning Bhāskara.
एतदाश्चर्यमाख्यानं कथयस्व महामुने
Tell this wondrous story, O great sage.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे ब्राह्मे पर्वणि सप्तमीकल्पे सौरधर्मे सूर्यावतारकथाप्रस्ताववर्णनं नाम सप्तपंचाशदुत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and fifty-seventh chapter, named 'Description of the Introduction to the Story of the Descent of the Sun in Sauradharma, in the Seventh Kalpa,' in the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.

He who has a thousand faces, a thousand eyes, a thousand rays,
सवनं भवनं चैव हव्यं होतारमेव च
A thousand tongues, shining, a thousand crowns, the Lord—
श्रोत्रियं शूर्पमुसलं प्रोक्षणं दक्षिणायनम्
The libation, the dwelling, the offering, the priest himself,
यूपं समित्स्रुवं दर्वीं मुसलोलूखलानि च
The learned, the winnowing basket, the pestle, the sprinkling, the southern course,
रहस्यानि प्रमाणानि स्थावराणि चराणि च
The sacrificial post, the kindling stick, the ladle, the pestle and mortars as well—
मंत्रयज्ञवहं वह्निभागं भार्गवमेव च
The share of fire that carries the mantras and sacrifices, and that which belongs to Bhargava,
आयुर्वेदविदो विप्रा यजंते शाश्वतं विभुम् 1.158.
The Brahmins who know Ayurveda worship the eternal, all-pervading Lord.
प्राहुर्भावसहस्राणि समतीतान्यनेकशः
They say that thousands of existences have passed, in countless ways.
यत्पृच्छसि महाराज पुण्यां दिव्यां कथां शुभाम्
O great king, the holy, divine, and auspicious story you ask about,
तामहं त्वं प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु सर्वमशेषतः
That I shall tell you; listen to everything in its entirety.
