अगर्भः स कथं गर्भमुदरे याचते विभुः
How can he who is unborn request a womb, O Lord?
योऽन्तकाले जगत्पीत्वा कृत्वा वज्रमयं वपुः
He who, at the end of time, having consumed the universe, assumed a body made of thunder.
लोकमेकार्णवं चक्रे दृश्यते स्वेन कर्मणा
By his own action, he made the world into a single ocean, as is seen.
अपि सृष्ट्वा द्विजश्रेष्ठ यः ससर्ज वसुंधराम् 1.157.
O best of twice-born, even after creating, he again fashioned the earth.
ददौ कृत्वा वसुमतीं सुराणां सुरसत्तमः पातालस्थोर्णवरसं मध्यतोयमयं हविः
The best among the gods, having made the earth, gave it to the gods as an offering—earth with the lower realms, the essence of water, and the middle filled with water.
सहस्रचरणं ब्रह्मन्यमाहुर्वै युगे युगे
They say that Brahman, with a thousand feet, exists in every age.
मुखाद्यस्य समुत्पन्नो वेधा लोकपितामहः
From whose mouth arose Vedha, the grandfather of the worlds.
येन ते निहता दैत्या मंदेहा नाम नामतः
By whom the Daityas named Mandehas were slain.
सर्वदेवमयं कृत्वा सर्वायुधधरं वपुः
Having made a form composed of all the gods, bearing all weapons.
करांते यो जगत्सर्वं सह दानवराक्षसम्
He who, at the end of his hand, holds the entire world together with the Dānavas and Rākṣasas.
पूर्वा दिशं गतो नित्यमुदयाचलमक्रमम्
He who always goes to the eastern direction, ascending the mountain of sunrise.
नाशयित्वा तमो यस्तु क्रियाः सर्वाः प्रवर्तयेत्
He who, having destroyed darkness, sets all actions in motion.
गार्हपत्येन विधिना तद्वद्धार्येण कर्मणा प्रोक्षणीयव्रतं चैव अवभृथं तथैव च
By the method of the gārhapatya fire, and likewise by the prescribed act of the ācārya, as well as the rite of sprinkling and the avabhṛtha bath.
सर्वानिमांश्च यश्चक्रे हव्यभागप्रदान्मुखे 1.157.
He who made all these, giving the shares of the oblations at the mouth.
भागार्थे मधुधानाय चक्रे यो यज्ञकर्मणि
He who, for the sake of shares and for the honey-offering, performed the sacrificial act.
यज्ञानि च द्रव्याणि यज्ञांश्चापि सऋत्विजः
He who made the sacrifices, the materials, the sacrifices themselves, and also the officiating priests.
विबभाज पुरा सर्वं पारमेष्ठयेन कर्मणा
Long ago, by the supreme act, he divided all things.
क्षणान्कलाश्च काष्ठाश्च कालवैकल्यमेव च
Moments, minutes, and hours, and even the divisions of time.
ऋतवः कालयोगाश्च प्रमाणं विविधं नृषु
The seasons, the conjunctions of time, and the various measures among people.
सृष्टा लोकास्त्रयोनंता येन ज्ञानेन वर्त्मना
The worlds, threefold and endless, were created by the path of knowledge.
प्रणामत्रयपूर्वेण योगेन रमते च यः
He who delights through yoga preceded by the threefold salutation.
यो गतिर्वृषयुक्तानां गतिर्योऽपापकर्मणाम्
He who is the movement of those yoked to virtue, and the movement of those with evil deeds.
धातुवैद्यस्य यो वेत्ता चतुराश्रमसंश्रयः
He who knows the essence of the elements, who abides in the four stages of life.
अग्नीषोमात्मकं ज्योतिर्योगीशः क्षणदांतकः 1.157.
The lord of yogis, whose light is of the nature of Agni and Soma, who is the ender of nights.
यं परं परमं प्राहुः परमात्मानमच्युतम्
Whom they call the supreme, the highest, the imperishable Supreme Self.
युगांतेष्वतंको यस्तु यश्च लोकांतकोत्तमः
He who is the terror at the end of the ages, and the highest at the end of the worlds.
वेत्ता यो वेदविदुषां प्रभुर्यः प्रभविष्णुनाम्
He who is the knower among those learned in the Vedas, the lord among the mighty.
मानुषाणां मनोभूतस्तपोभूतस्तपस्विनाम्
He who is the mind among humans, the austerity among ascetics.
विग्रहो विग्रहाणां च गतिर्गतिमतामपि देवाहुतिप्रदानोद्यत्प्राणाग्निस्तमनाशनः
He is the form among forms, the movement among movers, the fire of breath striving for the offering to the gods, the eater of darkness.
रसाद्धि शोणितं भवति शोणितान्मांसमुच्यते
From essence, blood arises; from blood, flesh is said to be produced.
