O Āditya, Arka, Ravi, Bhānu, Bhaga, Pūrṇa, Divākara—
Be gracious to me, Lord of the universe, sinless one, master of the day.
I am your son, O Lord of the gods, the second is the sinless Brāhmaṇa.
Hearing Viṣṇu’s words, Divākara was filled with joy.
Well done, Kṛṣṇa of mighty arms; I am pleased with you, Keśava.
Therefore, my child, choose a boon—whichever you desire in your heart.
Hearing Bhānu’s words, Viṣṇu, filled with devotion, replied:
I am fulfilled, O Lord of the gods; none is more blessed than I.
If you are pleased with me, O Lord, if you have been won by my devotion, then grant me this boon: the destruction of all my enemies.
And grant me the highest place, honored by all the worlds.
Thus addressed by Viṣṇu with devotion, Ravi spoke these excellent words:
Excellent, excellent, O mighty-armed one; you are the youngest of Brahmā.
He is my utterly devoted devotee, always blameless and steadfast in righteousness.
This very great sphere of the heavens will become your wheel of power, and likewise, you shall have the supreme place, honored by all the worlds.
Thus, having received a boon from Bhānu, Hari, the god and lord of the world—
The radiant Bhāskara also granted a boon to Keśava, mighty in energy.
The power, strength, heroism, fame, and happiness to protect the worlds—
In this way, Brahmā and the other gods, having worshipped the Sun,
Thus, this sacred narrative, which destroys sin, has been told to you.
It is endowed with three hymns and brings about the attainment of righteousness, desire, and wealth.
Whoever listens to this daily and recites the three hymns—
A childless person obtains a son, and one without wealth enjoys riches.
He becomes radiant like the Sun in brilliance, and in splendor, like Pṛśni.
Thus ends the one hundred fifty-sixth chapter, entitled 'The Description of the Threefold Story of the Sun's Religion,' in the Saptamī Section of the Sauradharma, in the Brāhma Parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
The account of the origin of the Sun's incarnation is now set forth: I have granted you the status of a son in the lineage of Kaśyapa.
I shall go, O best of twice-born, as the remover of all-pervading darkness.
He who is the leader of the gods and others, and every mighty progenitor upon earth—
For what purpose will he, the divine Self, assign himself to birth?
Whatever universal act of protection he performs for the world—
He who is the Sun himself, protects all by means of cows.
