In former times, together with me, the gods deliberated.
Then, having obtained boons, ministers and others repeatedly acted.
Therefore, for the sake of obstructing them, we have become the foremost.
Thus, after consultation, Skanda stood at the left side of the Sun.
And at that time, he was addressed by the Sun: 'You are the lord of punishment for the people.'
He who records both the good and the evil deeds of people.
And the two Ashvins also stood on both sides of the Sun.
They are remembered as the two chief and mighty doorkeepers of that king.
The root 'rāj' is remembered as shining, and its sign is the letter 'na'; therefore, Kārtikeya is remembered by the name 'king.'
The root 'sru', meaning 'to go', is remembered, and its sign is also remembered.
The first gate, which is supported by righteousness and wealth, is established.
In the second enclosure, two unassailable ones are stationed.
Because of the variegated color of his form, Yama is called 'Kalmasha' (the dark one).
He stands to his right, furnished with a staff in hand.
Kubera, known as the giver of wealth, is recognized as the elephant-faced Vinayaka; Kubera, because of his deformed body, is remembered by the name 'giver of wealth.'
He is the leader of all beings; therefore, he is called 'Nayaka.'
Raivata and Dindi, both, are stationed to the east of the Sun.
Because he moves swiftly, he is honored by all the worlds.
For the state of 'ḍiṅgati' of the root, the word 'diṇḍi' is used.
Thus these eminent meanings of the roots have been declared by the auspicious Vedic authorities.
Therefore, the two Aśvins should be understood as Daṇḍanāyaka and Piṅgala.
Revata and Diṇḍi—these eminent ones have been described by me.
By these names, others, with the intention to destroy the Dānavas,
both those with similar forms and those with different forms, those deformed and those who can assume any form at will,
The root 'div' is indeed spoken of in the sense of play; thus it is stated.
The Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas that have been mentioned here by me,
Having heard them and worshipped the Lord of the gods, they attained perfection and reside in heaven.
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Brāhma Parvan, in the Saptamī Kalpa, in the dialogue of the Brahmarṣis, is the chapter named 'Description of the Eminent Ones', the one hundred and twenty-fourth.
Now it is asked: What is the self, and of what nature is it? Let it be described.
Whatever is said to be of the nature of the self, and how the deities dwell,
