Salutations to you, whose form is to be known, who appears as illumination in a hundred thousand forms.
Salutations to the cause of worldly existence, to the maker of twilight and moonlight.
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Īśa said: O best of gods, fierce in brilliance, salutations, salutations to you, praised by the gods! Those who are dull, blind, mute, deaf, leprous, afflicted with white patches, or covered with various wounds—you make them all new again; therefore, O greatly compassionate one, we bow to you.
Whatever is the great or lesser light in the belly, whatever is the vision of the eyes, whatever is removed or offered in sacrifices—all that is your portion, established in many forms.
Those enemies of the gods, dwelling in the ocean’s waters, armed with fierce nooses, swords, axes, and weapons, those evil-minded ones who rise up on earth, are destroyed at the sight of you, O god.
Because you are the giver of all the fruits of pilgrimage, always present in sacrifices, O Lord, we bow to you; there is no doubt here. You are ever equal, the bringer of peace to men.
And whatever austerity is spoken of in the world by the wise, that, O one of great brilliance, the learned declare to be yours.
Thus praised by the gods headed by Prajāpati, the Lord then listened attentively, O King, with both ears.
Then again, all those gods, with Śiva and Viṣṇu at their head, made me stand before them and, devoted, bowed from all sides.
Salutations, salutations to the giver of prosperity to the three worlds, to the bestower of the true fruits of sacrificial rites; salutations, salutations to the witness of daily actions, to the one with a thousand rays.
Salutations to the one yoked to the seven swift horses, to the charioteer with the single, fixed ray; always praised by the Vālakhilyas, Apsarases, Kinnaras, serpents, Siddhas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, men, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, and the best of Guhyakas—salutations to you, O god.
You draw up the fluids of embodied beings with your rays, by the flow of snow, water, and heat; you always dry up the world—indeed, you are the one who dries up the universe.
Brahmā said: Knowing their intention, the Lord spoke these words; having received permission, all the gods then became joyful at heart.
They worshipped Tvaṣṭṛ with mind, speech, and bodily actions; by your command, Viśvakarman should make you gentle.
Then Viśvakarman, expert in all ritual acts, placed the mass of energy upon the Sun, setting it in motion.
When the Sun, O Lord, was anointed with nectar, Viśvakarman gradually diminished his energy.
He, whose form reached to his knees, was worshipped by gods and demons; but thereafter the god did not accept further inscription.
Thus ends the twenty-third chapter after one hundred, named 'Description of the Outline,' in the Brahma section, Seventh Kalpa, in the dialogue of Brahmarshis, of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana.
Brahma said: He who is immersed stands beyond the sky; he is freed. Rudra, even here, is called Diṇḍī.
Long ago, having seized the head of Brahma, he held the skull of that head.
When naked in the Daru forest, the sages saw him, the lord of gods, wandering for alms; Diṇḍī abandoned them and then went to the realm of the Sun.
As he was approaching, the Pramathas said to him: 'O lord of gods, why do you wander constantly?'
Again the Pramathas said to him: 'Remain here itself, before the Sun.'
Thus addressed by the Pramathas, Rudra stayed there to please the Sun.
Then, addressed by the pleased Savitri: 'I am delighted by your coming, O carrier of the gods.'
These eighteen Pramathas belong to Bhanu; fourteen others are stationed in the chariot of the Sun.
Yaksha and Siddha, and the night-dweller, the two sons of Aditya, and the chief among the Apsaras.
Thus, all these foremost among the gods become Siddhas through words denoting meanings of elements.
Therefore, O Brahman, curiosity arises among us here.
Brahma said: I will further tell you about Daṇḍanāyaka and Piṅgala.
