णकारं दक्षिणे कुक्षौ यकारं वामसंज्ञके 1.17.
The syllable 'ṇa' should be placed on the right side of the abdomen, and 'ya' on the left side.
देकारं जंघयोर्न्यस्य वकारं पादपद्मयोः
The syllable 'ḍe' should be placed on the shanks, and 'va' at the bases of the feet.
मकारं जानुदेशे तु हिकारं गुह्यमाश्रितम्
'Ma' should be placed at the knees, and 'hi' at the secret part.
नकारं नासिकाग्रे तु प्रकारं नेत्रमाश्रितम्
'Na' should be placed at the tip of the nose, and 'pra' at the eyes.
याकारं विन्यसेन्मूर्ध्नि तकारं केशमाश्रितम् सर्वोपचारसंपन्नं कृत्वा सम्यङ् निरीक्षयेत्
'Yā' should be placed on the head, and 'ta' at the hair; having completed all the proper offerings, one should look upon it attentively.
कुंकुमागुरुकर्पूर चन्दनेन विमिश्रितम् प्रोक्षयेत्सर्वद्रव्याणि पश्चादर्चनमाचरेत्
Sprinkle all the substances with a mixture of saffron, agarwood, camphor, and sandalwood, and then perform the worship.
चक्रग्रन्थिषु सर्वासु प्रणवं विनिवेशयेत्
In all the wheel-knots, one should establish the sacred syllable Om.
विन्यसेत्पद्ममध्ये तु पीठनिष्पत्तिहेतवे
One should place it in the center of the lotus for the purpose of seat-formation.
ह्रस्वोंकारे मता सा तु दीर्घोंकारे तु देवराट्
The short Om is considered as her, and the long Om as the lord of the gods.
यत्नस्थो न निवर्तेत योगी प्राणपरायणः
The yogi devoted to the vital breath, being steadfast in effort, should not turn back.
आवाह्य तेजोरूपं तु न्यसेन्मन्त्रवरांस्ततः 1.17.
Having invoked the form of light, then one should place the excellent mantras.
स्रष्टारं सर्वजगतां विष्णुरुद्रविधानगम् गायत्रीमुच्चरन्मन्त्रं सर्वकर्माणि कारयेत्
Reciting the Gayatri mantra, one should perform all rites for the creator of all worlds, who is known as Vishnu and Rudra.
पुष्पं धूपं तथा दीपं नैवेद्यं सुमनोहरम्
One should offer flowers, incense, lamp, and delightful food.
स्वस्तिकोल्लोपिकादुग्धतिलावेष्टतिलाढिकाः
Sweets such as svastika, ollopika, milk, sesame cakes, and sesame confections.
अन्यांश्च विविधान्दद्यात्पूपानि विविधानि च
And one should give various other cakes and diverse offerings.
मूलमन्त्रेण देवस्य ततो देहं विभावयेत्
With the root mantra of the deity, one should then contemplate the body.
प्राणायामत्रयं कृत्वा देहसंशोधनाय वै
Having performed the threefold breath-control for the purification of the body.
ध्यात्वानन्तं ततो रुद्रं पद्मकिंजल्कमध्यगम्
Then, meditating on the infinite, and then on Rudra, situated in the center of the lotus filament.
एवं त्रिदेवतारूढं पद्ममध्येंबुजोद्भवम्
Thus, established with the three deities, in the center of the lotus, born from the lotus.
ऋग्वेदं तु यजुर्वेदं सामवेदं च पूजयेत् 1.17.
One should worship the Rigveda, Yajurveda, and also the Samaveda.
ईशानादिक्रमाद्राजन्विदिशासु समंततः
O King, beginning from the northeast, in all directions successively.
ज्योतिषं च महाबाहो उपवेदाश्च कृत्स्नशः
And, O mighty-armed one, the Jyotisha and all the subsidiary Vedas completely.
शिक्षा कल्पो व्याकरणं देवस्य पुरतः सदा
Instruction, ritual, and grammar should always be placed before the deity.
महाव्याहृतयः सर्वाः प्रणवेन समन्विताः
All the great utterances, united with the sacred syllable Om.
शक्तयो ब्रह्मणस्त्वेता लोकरूपा व्यवस्थिताः
These powers of Brahma are established as the forms of the worlds.
अरकांतरसंस्थांश्च षट् समुद्रान्समर्चयेत् ।। नक्षत्राणि ग्रहाश्चैव राशयश्च विशेषतः । । पूज्याः सर्वे यथान्यायं सुराग्रेषु व्यवस्थिताः
One should also worship the six oceans situated between the continents; likewise, the stars, planets, and especially the zodiac signs, all are to be honored appropriately, being established before the gods.
नागाश्च गरुडश्चैव पूजनीयस्तथाग्रतः तत्तेजोनिलयाः सर्वे पूजनीयाः प्रयत्नतः
The serpents and Garuda, too, are to be worshipped in front; all those who are abodes of that energy should be worshipped with care.
आचम्य विधिवत्पूर्वं मंत्रपूतेन वारिणा ।। हृदयादीन्न्यसेदंगान्हृदयादिषु कृत्स्नशः
Having first sipped water purified by mantra, according to the proper method, one should assign the limbs from the heart and so on, thoroughly, to their respective places.
शिखा नेत्रं तथा चर्म अस्त्रं च भरतर्षभ । । महेंद्रादिदिशश्चैताः पूजयेद्विधिवन्नृप
The topknot, the eyes, the skin, and the weapon, O best of the Bharatas, and the directions beginning with Indra—these should be worshipped properly, O king.
हृदयं पुरतः पूज्यं शिरो देवस्य पृष्ठतः ।। पूर्वं संपूजयेद्देवं मूलमंत्रेण कृत्स्नशः । । 1.17.
The heart is to be worshipped in front, the head of the deity behind; first, one should worship the deity completely with the root mantra.
