वस्त्रपूतेन तोयेन स्नपयेद्यः सकृद्विभुम् 1.17.
Whoever bathes the all-pervading one even once with water purified by cloth,
सर्वौषधीभिर्यो भक्त्या स्नपयेत्पद्मसंभवम्
Whoever with devotion bathes the lotus-born with all medicinal herbs,
गन्धचन्दनतोयेन स्नापयेद्योंबुजोद्भवम्
Whoever bathes the lotus-born with water scented with sandalwood and fragrance,
पाटलोत्पलपद्मानि करवीराणि सर्वदा
Pāṭala, blue lotus, red lotus, and oleander flowers at all times—
एषामेकतमं स्नानं भक्त्या कृत्वा तु वेधसि
By performing with devotion even one of these baths for the creator,
कर्पूरागरुतोयेन स्नपयेद्यस्तु कञ्जजम्
Whoever bathes the lotus-born with water of camphor and aloe,
गायत्रीशतजप्तेन विमलेनांभसा विभुम्
Whoever bathes the all-pervading one with pure water after reciting the Gāyatrī a hundred times,
विभुं शीतांबुना स्नाप्य धारोष्णपयसा ततः
Having bathed the all-pervading one with cool water, then with a stream of warm milk,
एतत्स्नानत्रयं कृत्वा पूजयित्वा तु भक्तितः
Having performed these three kinds of bathing, and having worshipped with devotion,
मृत्कुंभैस्ताम्रजैः कुंभैः स्नानं शतगुणं भवेत्
Bathing with earthen or copper vessels yields a hundredfold result.
ब्रह्मणो दर्शनं पुण्यं दर्शनात्स्पर्शनं परम् 1.17.
The sight of a Brahmin is meritorious; touching is even greater than seeing.
वाचिकं मानसं पापं घृतस्नानेन देहिनाम्
Verbal and mental sins of embodied beings are removed by bathing with ghee.
स्नपयित्वार्चयेद्भक्त्या यथा तच्छृणु भारत
After bathing, one should worship with devotion; hear from me, O Bharata, how this is to be done.
चतुर्हस्तं लिखेत्पद्मं चतुर्भागविभागितम्
One should draw a lotus with four arms, divided into four parts.
सरोजानि ततो न्यस्य अक्षराणि समन्ततः
Then, placing lotuses, one should inscribe letters all around.
नानावर्णकसंयोगाल्लिखेच्चैवानुपूर्वशः
With various combinations of colors, one should write them in proper order.
सितं शुद्धं तु कर्त्तव्यं मध्यभागे तु वर्तुलम्
The center should be made white and pure, and circular in shape.
एवमालिख्य यत्नेन मूलमन्त्रं ततो न्यसेत्
Having drawn thus with care, one should then place the root-mantra.
नादरूपं न्यसेत्तावद्यावच्छब्दस्य शून्यता
One should place the nāda-form up to the point where the sound ceases.
विकारं कण्ठदेशे तु तुकारं सर्वसंधिषु
The modification (vikāra) should be placed at the throat, and the syllable 'tu' at all the joints.
णकारं दक्षिणे कुक्षौ यकारं वामसंज्ञके 1.17.
The syllable 'ṇa' should be placed on the right side of the abdomen, and 'ya' on the left side.
देकारं जंघयोर्न्यस्य वकारं पादपद्मयोः
The syllable 'ḍe' should be placed on the shanks, and 'va' at the bases of the feet.
मकारं जानुदेशे तु हिकारं गुह्यमाश्रितम्
'Ma' should be placed at the knees, and 'hi' at the secret part.
नकारं नासिकाग्रे तु प्रकारं नेत्रमाश्रितम्
'Na' should be placed at the tip of the nose, and 'pra' at the eyes.
याकारं विन्यसेन्मूर्ध्नि तकारं केशमाश्रितम् सर्वोपचारसंपन्नं कृत्वा सम्यङ् निरीक्षयेत्
'Yā' should be placed on the head, and 'ta' at the hair; having completed all the proper offerings, one should look upon it attentively.
कुंकुमागुरुकर्पूर चन्दनेन विमिश्रितम् प्रोक्षयेत्सर्वद्रव्याणि पश्चादर्चनमाचरेत्
Sprinkle all the substances with a mixture of saffron, agarwood, camphor, and sandalwood, and then perform the worship.
चक्रग्रन्थिषु सर्वासु प्रणवं विनिवेशयेत्
In all the wheel-knots, one should establish the sacred syllable Om.
विन्यसेत्पद्ममध्ये तु पीठनिष्पत्तिहेतवे
One should place it in the center of the lotus for the purpose of seat-formation.
ह्रस्वोंकारे मता सा तु दीर्घोंकारे तु देवराट्
The short Om is considered as her, and the long Om as the lord of the gods.
यत्नस्थो न निवर्तेत योगी प्राणपरायणः
The yogi devoted to the vital breath, being steadfast in effort, should not turn back.
