Just as the mind of a creature becomes attached to the field of sense-objects—
Whoever repairs what is broken or cracked in the hall—
There is no god equal to Brahma, nor is there a teacher equal to Brahma.
On all lunar days and at festivals—
With the sounds of conches, drums, and other great musical instruments—
As long as the festivals last, one should perform the waving of lights according to rule, O king.
At the time of bathing and at the three junctions of the day, whoever performs dance and music—
For as many days as one performs singing, dancing, and other music—
With the five products of the tawny cow, and with water mixed with kuśa grass—
With the five products of the tawny cow, and with curd, milk, and ghee—
One should always bring a tawny cow for the sake of a rite for the gods or fire.
If a Śūdra drinks the milk of a tawny cow prepared for a divine purpose,
The sin accumulated over thousands of millions of years,
The sin accumulated over thousands of millions of aeons—just as fire burns fuel, so does bathing the ancestor with ghee burn it away.
By performing a ghee-bath with sour milk even once on each lunar day,
Whoever gives ten thousand cows with devotion to one learned in the Vedas,
Whoever bathes (the deity) even once with clarified butter and milk,
O hero, by bathing the lotus-born even once with curd, one attains Viṣṇu.
Whoever here bathes the offspring of Brahmā with sugarcane juice,
Whoever with devotion bathes the lotus-born with pure water,
Whoever bathes the all-pervading one even once with water purified by cloth,
Whoever with devotion bathes the lotus-born with all medicinal herbs,
Whoever bathes the lotus-born with water scented with sandalwood and fragrance,
Pāṭala, blue lotus, red lotus, and oleander flowers at all times—
By performing with devotion even one of these baths for the creator,
Whoever bathes the lotus-born with water of camphor and aloe,
Whoever bathes the all-pervading one with pure water after reciting the Gāyatrī a hundred times,
Having bathed the all-pervading one with cool water, then with a stream of warm milk,
Having performed these three kinds of bathing, and having worshipped with devotion,
Bathing with earthen or copper vessels yields a hundredfold result.
