दिनान्ते भग वान्कृष्णो ज्ञात्वा कालस्य दुर्गतिम्
At the end of the day, the blessed Krishna, knowing the misfortune of time,
कालकर्त्रे जगद्भर्त्रे पापहर्त्रे नमोनमः
Salutations again and again to the maker of time, the sustainer of the world, the remover of sin.
पांडवान्रक्ष भगवन्मद्भक्तान्भूतभीरुकान् रक्षार्थं शिबिराणां च प्राप्तवाञ्छूलहस्तधृक्
O Lord, protect the Pandavas, my devotees, who are fearful of beings; for their protection and for the camps, you arrived holding the trident in your hand.
तदा नृपाज्ञया कृष्णः स गतो गजसाह्वयम्
Then, by the king's command, Krishna went to Gajasahvaya.
निशीथे द्रौणिभोजौ च कृपस्तत्र समाययुः 3.3.1.
At midnight, Drona's son and Bhoja, along with Kripa, arrived there.
अश्वत्थामा तु बलवाञ्छिवदत्तमसिं तदा
Ashvatthama, powerful, was then with Kripacharya and Kritavarma.
हत्वा यथेष्टमगमद्द्रौणिस्ताभ्यां समन्वितः
Having killed as he wished, Drona's son departed, accompanied by those two.
पार्षतस्यैव सूतश्च हतशेषो भयातुरः
The charioteer of Parshata, terrified and the only survivor, remained.
आगस्कृतं शिवं ज्ञात्वा भीमाद्याः क्रोधमूर्च्छिताः
Knowing that a terrible act had been committed, Bhima and the others, overcome by anger,
अस्त्रशस्त्राणि तेषां तु शिवदेहे समाविशन्
Their weapons and missiles entered into Shiva's body.
ताञ्छशाप तदा रुद्रो यूयं कृष्णप्रपूजकाः
Then Rudra cursed them: 'You are worshippers of Krishna.'
पुनर्जन्म कलौ प्राप्य भोक्ष्यते चापराधकम्
'Having obtained rebirth in the Kali age, you will experience the result of your offense.'
हरिं शरणमाजग्मुरपराधनिवृत्तये
They sought refuge in Hari for the removal of their offense.
तुष्टुवुर्मनसा रुद्रं तदा प्रादुरभूच्छिवः
They praised Rudra in their minds, and then Shiva appeared.
शस्त्राण्यस्त्राणि यान्येव त्वदंगे क्षपितानि वै 3.3.1.
The weapons and missiles that were destroyed upon your body—
इति श्रुत्वा शिवः प्राह कृष्णदेव नमोऽस्तु ते
Having heard this, Shiva spoke: 'O Krishna, salutations to you.'
तद्वशेन मया स्वामिन्दत्तः शापो भयंकरः
Because of that, by me, a terrible curse was given to the lord.
वत्सराजस्य पुत्रत्वं गमिष्यति युधिष्ठिरः
Yudhishthira will take birth as the son of Vatsaraja.
भीमो दुर्वचनाद्दुष्टो म्लेच्छयोनौ भविष्यति
Bhima, corrupted by harsh words, will be born in the lineage of mlecchas.
अर्जुनांशश्च मद्भक्तो जनिष्यति महामतिः
A portion of Arjuna, devoted to me, will be born as a person of great intellect.
कान्यकुब्जे हि नकुलो भविष्यति महाबलः
Nakula, of great strength, will be born in Kanyakubja.
सहदेवस्तु वलवाञ्जनिष्यति महामतिः
And Sahadeva, possessing strength, will be born as a person of great wisdom.
धृतराष्ट्रांश एवासौ जनिष्यत्यजमेरके
A portion of Dhritarashtra will be born in Ajameraka.
वेला नाम्ना च विख्याता तारकः कर्ण एव हि
Known by the name Velā, Tāraka will indeed be Karṇa.
कौरवाश्च भविष्यन्ति मायायुद्धविशारदाः 3.3.1.
And the Kauravas will be skilled in the art of magical warfare.
मया शक्त्यवतारेण रक्षणीया हि पांडवाः
By my empowered incarnation, the Pāṇḍavas must be protected.
महावती पुरी रम्या मायादेवीविनिर्मिता
The great and beautiful city, Mahāvatī, was created by the goddess Māyā.
देवकीजठरे जन्मोदयसिंह इति स्मृतः
Born in the womb of Devakī, you are remembered as Janmodaya-siṃha.
हत्वाग्निवंशजान्भूपान्स्थापयिष्यामि वै कलिम्
Having slain the kings descended from the fire dynasty, I will indeed establish the age of Kali.
प्रेतकार्याणि ते कृत्वा भीष्मान्तिकमुपाययुः
Having performed the funeral rites, they approached Bhishma.
