स सप्ताब्दवपुर्भूत्वा गोदुग्धपानतत्परः 3.4.17.
He, having the form of a seven-year-old, was intent on drinking cow's milk.
स्वहस्तेनैव संस्कृत्य भोजनं हरयेऽपर्यत्
He himself prepared food with his own hands and offered it to Hari.
पितृमातृपरित्यक्तः स बालः पंचहायनः
That boy, abandoned by his father and mother, was five years old.
गोवर्द्धनगिरौ प्राप्य नारदस्योपदेशतः
Reaching Govardhana Hill, by the instruction of Narada,
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्विष्णुर्नारायणः प्रभुः
Then the blessed Lord Vishnu, Narayana, the master, became pleased.
दृष्ट्वा तद्वदनं रम्यं मायाशक्त्या दिशो दश
Seeing that beautiful face, by his power of illusion, the ten directions
धुवोऽपि भगवान्साक्षात्सर्वपूज्यो बभूव ह
Even Dhruva became manifest there in person, worthy of all worship.
नभःपतिः कालकरः शिशुमारपतिस्स वै
The lord of the sky, the maker of time, and the lord of the constellation Shishumara,
तस्माद्धरायां संभूतो भौमो नाम महाग्रहः
From him was born on earth the great planet named Bhauma.
वह्निदेव्या ततो जातश्चाहं तत्र महाग्रहः
From the goddess of fire I was then born, there as the great planet.
ग्रहभूतः स्थितस्तत्र नभोदेव्यां तदुद्भवः 3.4.17.
Having become a planet, I remained there, born from the goddess of the sky.

In the eastern direction, from him was born the elephant Airavata.
वामनः कुमुदश्चैव पुष्पदंतः क्रमाद्गजाः ।। सार्वभौमः सुप्रतीको नभोदिक्षु तु तत्सुताः
Vamana, Kumuda, and also Pushpadanta—these elephants in order; Sarvabhauma and Supratika, and their sons in the directions of the sky.
अभ्रमुः कपिला चैव पिंगलाख्या इमाः क्रमात्
Abhramu, Kapila, and also those known as Pingala—these in order.
भूमिदिक्षु करिण्यश्च जातास्तस्मात्तु तत्प्रियाः
In the directions of the earth, female elephants were born from them, their beloveds.
पशुयोन्युद्भवानां च नृणां ता योषितस्सदा
And among those born from the animal womb, the women of men are always from them.
मनुवंशोद्भवानां च नृणां चान्योद्भवाः स्त्रियः
Women arise both from the lineage of Manu and from other origins among men.
द्विधा धुवस्स विज्ञेयो भूमेरूर्द्ध्वमधस्तथा
Dhruva is understood to be twofold, above and below the earth.
अधोध्रुवे सदा रात्रिर्नारकास्तत्र वै स्थिताः
At the lower Dhruva, there is always night; those who dwell there are indeed hellish.
महो जनस्तपस्सत्यं तेषु नित्यं दिनं स्मृतम् तेषु नित्यं स्मृता रात्रिः कल्पमानं च कोविदैः
In Maharloka, Janaloka, Tapoloka, and Satyaloka, day is always remembered; in those, night is always considered by the wise as a kalpa.
स तु पूर्वभवे चासीद्ब्राह्मणो माधवप्रियः 3.4.17.
He was a Brahmin devoted to Madhava in a previous existence.
तीर्थ पुण्यात्स वै विप्रो माधवो माधवप्रियः षट्त्रिंशच्च सहस्राब्दं राज्यं कृत्वा ध्रुवोऽभवत्
By the merit of holy places, that Brahmin, Madhava, beloved of Madhava, after ruling for thirty-six thousand years, became Dhruva.
सूत उवाच इति श्रुत्वा गुरोर्वाक्यं स ध्रुवः पंचमो वसुः नरश्रीर्नाम विख्यातो गुणवैश्यस्य वै सुतः
Sūta said: Having heard the words of the guru, Dhruva, the fifth Vasu, renowned as Naraśrī, son of Guṇavaiśya, was born.
कुसीदगुणगुप्तश्च नरश्रीः पुत्रवत्सलः
Naraśrī, concealed by the qualities of usury, was affectionate toward his sons.
प्रत्यहं स हरेः क्रीडां वृन्दावनमहोत्तमे
Every day, he enjoyed the play of Hari in the great Vrindavan.
यस्य पुत्रविवाहे च भगवान्भक्तवत्सलः
At his son's wedding, the Lord, who cherishes devotees, was present.
पुरीं काशीं समागम्य नरश्रीभर्क्तराट् स्वयम्
Naraśrī, the king devoted to Bhakti, himself went to the city of Kashi.
सार्द्धं तपो महत्कुर्वन्ब्रह्मध्यानपरोऽभवत्
Together, performing great austerity, he became absorbed in meditation on Brahman.
तदा ब्रह्मा हरिश्शंभुः स्वस्ववाहनमास्थिताः
Then Brahma, Hari, and Shambhu, each mounted upon their own vehicle.
इति श्रुत्वा वच स्तेषां स्वयंभूतनयो मुनिः
Having heard their words, the sage, son of Svayambhu, himself.
