अलोके पापजास्सर्वे देवब्रह्मसमुद्भवाः कोऽपि पुत्रः पिता भ्राता स च तस्याः पतिर्भवेत्
All those born from gods and Brahma, who are generated from sin in darkness, may be sons, fathers, or brothers, and he may become her husband.
स्वकीयां च सुतां ब्रह्मा विष्णुदेवः स्वमातरम्
Brahma, Vishnu, and the gods took their own daughters and mothers.
इति श्रुत्वा वेदमयं वाक्यं चादितिसंभवः
Having heard this statement, which is filled with the Vedas, from the offspring of Aditi,
सुताः कन्यास्तयोर्जाता मनुर्वैवस्वतस्तथा
Daughters were born to those two, and likewise Manu, son of Vivasvan.
तदा संज्ञा सती साक्षात्तेजोभूतं पतिं स्वकम् 3.4.18.
Then Saṃjñā, being virtuous, directly saw her husband, radiant in form.
सावर्णिश्च मनुस्तस्यां शनिश्च तपती तथा
Sāvarṇi Manu was born from her, as well as Śani and Tapatī.
पुत्रभेदेन तां नारीं मत्वा मायां रुषान्वितः
Considering that woman as Māyā due to the difference of sons, he became filled with anger.
तदा शनिश्च सावर्णिर्विवस्वतं रुषान्वितम्
Then Śani and Sāvarṇi, filled with wrath, approached Vivasvan.
कियतो चैव कालेन भग्नभूतौ विवस्वता
After some time, Vivasvan became broken in spirit.
त्रिवर्षान्ते च सा देवी महाकाली समागता
At the end of three years, that goddess Mahākālī appeared.
पुनस्तौ च समागम्य युयुधाते विवस्वता
Again, those two met and fought with Vivasvan.
तत्र स्थिता प्रिया संज्ञा वडवारूपधरिणी
There, Saṃjñā, beloved, remained, assuming the form of a mare.
गत्वा ददर्श भगवान्सज्ञां संबोधकारिणीम्
Having gone, the Blessed One saw Sajna, the bringer of awakening.
पंचवर्षान्तरे संज्ञा गर्भं तस्माद्दधौ स्वयम्
After five years, Sajna herself conceived a child from him.
पितुर्दुःखं समालोक्य जग्मतू रविमण्डलम् 3.4.18.
Seeing his father's sorrow, they went to the orb of the sun.
बद्ध्वा तौ स्वपितुः पार्श्वम संप्राप्तौ वडवासुतौ
Binding them, the sons of Vadava arrived at their father's side.
संपीड्य ताडयामास लोहदंडैर्भयानकैः
He pressed and struck them with terrifying iron rods.
आश्विनेयौ समालोक्य वचनं प्राह तौ मुदा एकनाम्ना युवां प्रीतौ नासत्यौ च भविष्यथः
Seeing the Ashvins, he spoke to them joyfully: 'You two, with one name and united in affection, shall be called Nasatyas.'
सोमशक्तिरिडादेवी ज्येष्ठपत्नी भविष्यति
Soma's power, the goddess Ida, will become the eldest wife.
इडापतिस्स वै नाम द्वितीयः पिंगलापतिः तस्य शान्तिकरो ज्येष्ठो भविष्यति महीतले
The lord of Ida will be named thus, and the second, lord of Pingala; his eldest will be a bringer of peace on earth.
द्वितीयश्च नृणां राशेः सावर्णिर्भ्रमकारकः
The second, from the line of men, will be Savarni, the wanderer.
जन्मराशिस्थिता देवी तपती ता पकारिणी
The goddess, established in the birth sign, is Tapati, the one who causes ripening.
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य सुरवैद्यौ बभूवतुः तेषां तु परिहारार्थौ दस्रौ चाश्विनिसंभवौ
Having heard his words, the two became divine physicians; for their relief, the Dasras, born of the Ashvins, were produced.
सूत उवाच स्वांशान्महीतले जातौ शूद्रयोन्यां रवेस्तुतौ
The Suta said: Their own portions were born on earth, praised by the Sun, in the Shudra lineage.
चाण्डालस्य गृहे जातश्छागहंतुरिडापतिः 3.4.18.
The lord of Ida was born in the house of a Chandala, a killer of goats.
शालिग्रामशिलातुल्यं छागमांसं विचिक्रिये
He prepared goat meat, equal to a Shaligram stone.
स तु सत्यनिधिः पूर्वं ब्रह्मणस्तप आस्थितः राजगेहे करस्तस्मात्सधनस्य लयं गतः
He, the treasury of truth, formerly engaged in the austerity of Brahma, became a servant in the royal house, and thus entered the dissolution of wealth.
चर्मकारगृहे जातो द्वितीयः पिंगलापतिः
The second, lord of Pingala, was born in the house of a leather worker.
पुरीं काशीं समागम्य कबीरं रामतत्परम्
Coming together in the city of Kashi, Kabir was devoted to Rama.
तयोर्विवादो सभवदहोरात्रं मतान्तरे रामानन्दमुपागम्य तस्य शिष्यत्वमागतः
Their debate lasted day and night, according to another view; approaching Ramananda, he became his disciple.
