तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्विष्णुर्नारायणः प्रभुः
Then the blessed Lord Vishnu, Narayana, the Master, became pleased.
दृष्ट्वा तद्वदनं रम्यं मायाशक्त्या दिशो दश
Seeing that beautiful face, by his power of illusion, he revealed the ten directions.
धुवोऽपि भगवान्साक्षात्सर्वपूज्यो बभूव ह
Then the Lord himself, worthy of all worship, appeared directly.
नभःपतिः कालकरः शिशुमारपतिस्स वै
The Lord of the sky, the maker of time, and the lord of the constellation Śiśumāra—
तस्माद्धरायां संभूतो भौमो नाम महाग्रहः
From him, on the earth, was born the great planet named Bhauma.
वह्निदेव्या ततो जातश्चाहं तत्र महाग्रहः
From the goddess of fire, I was then born there as that great planet.
ग्रहभूतः स्थितस्तत्र नभोदेव्यां तदुद्भवः 3.4.17.
Having become a planet, I remained there, born from the goddess of the sky.

In the eastern direction, from him, the elephant Airavata was born.
वामनः कुमुदश्चैव पुष्पदंतः क्रमाद्गजाः ।। सार्वभौमः सुप्रतीको नभोदिक्षु तु तत्सुताः
Vamana, Kumuda, and Pushpadanta—these elephants in order; Sarvabhauma and Supratika, and their sons in the directions of the sky.
अभ्रमुः कपिला चैव पिंगलाख्या इमाः क्रमात्
Abhramu, Kapila, and Pingala—these are their names in order.
भूमिदिक्षु करिण्यश्च जातास्तस्मात्तु तत्प्रियाः
From him, elephants arose in all directions of the earth, and they were dear to him.
पशुयोन्युद्भवानां च नृणां ता योषितस्सदा
And among those born from animal wombs, women are always present among men.
मनुवंशोद्भवानां च नृणां चान्योद्भवाः स्त्रियः
And among those born from the lineage of Manu, there are also women born from other sources among men.
द्विधा धुवस्स विज्ञेयो भूमेरूर्द्ध्वमधस्तथा
Know that Dhruva is twofold: above and below the earth.
अधोध्रुवे सदा रात्रिर्नारकास्तत्र वै स्थिताः
Below Dhruva is always night, and the beings of hell are established there.
महो जनस्तपस्सत्यं तेषु नित्यं दिनं स्मृतम् तेषु नित्यं स्मृता रात्रिः कल्पमानं च कोविदैः
In the realms of Mahas, Janas, Tapas, and Satya, day is always remembered there; night is also always remembered there by the wise as a measure of a kalpa.
स तु पूर्वभवे चासीद्ब्राह्मणो माधवप्रियः 3.4.17.
In a previous birth, he was a Brahmin devoted to Madhava.
तीर्थ पुण्यात्स वै विप्रो माधवो माधवप्रियः षट्त्रिंशच्च सहस्राब्दं राज्यं कृत्वा ध्रुवोऽभवत्
By the merit of holy places, that Brahmin, dear to Madhava, became Dhruva after ruling for thirty-six thousand years.
सूत उवाच इति श्रुत्वा गुरोर्वाक्यं स ध्रुवः पंचमो वसुः नरश्रीर्नाम विख्यातो गुणवैश्यस्य वै सुतः
Sūta said: Having heard the words of his teacher, Dhruva, the fifth Vasu, became renowned as Naraśrī, the son of Guṇavaiśya.
कुसीदगुणगुप्तश्च नरश्रीः पुत्रवत्सलः
Naraśrī, who was skilled in finance and virtue, was affectionate toward his sons.
प्रत्यहं स हरेः क्रीडां वृन्दावनमहोत्तमे
Every day, he delighted in the pastimes of Hari in the great and excellent Vṛndāvana.
यस्य पुत्रविवाहे च भगवान्भक्तवत्सलः
At the wedding of his son, the Lord, who is affectionate to his devotees, was present.
पुरीं काशीं समागम्य नरश्रीभर्क्तराट् स्वयम्
Having arrived at the city of Kāśī, Naraśrī himself became the king of devotees.
सार्द्धं तपो महत्कुर्वन्ब्रह्मध्यानपरोऽभवत्
Performing great austerity together, he became devoted to meditation on Brahman.
तदा ब्रह्मा हरिश्शंभुः स्वस्ववाहनमास्थिताः
Then Brahmā, Hari, and Śaṃbhu, each mounted on their own vehicles, appeared.
इति श्रुत्वा वच स्तेषां स्वयंभूतनयो मुनिः
Having heard their words, the sage, son of the self-born, himself—
तस्य भावं समालोक्य त्रयो देवाः सनातनाः 3.4.17.
Seeing his disposition, the three eternal gods—
लिंगहस्तः स्वयं रुद्रो विष्णुस्तद्रसवर्द्धनः रतिं देहि मदाघूर्णे नो चेत्प्राणांस्त्यजाम्यहम्
Rudra himself, holding the liṅga, and Viṣṇu, the increaser of rasa, said: 'Grant me pleasure, O intoxicated one, or else I will abandon my life.'
पतिव्रताऽनसूया च श्रुत्वा तेषां वचोऽशुभम्
The devoted and blameless wife, having heard their harsh words,
मोहितास्तत्र ते देवा गृहीत्वा तां बलात्तदा
There, the gods were deluded and seized her by force at that time.
