स्नानार्थमागता कन्या तदा नारद आगतः
The maiden came for bathing, and at that time Nārada arrived.
गृहीत्वा वसनं तस्या वचनं प्राह निर्भयः
Taking her garment, he fearlessly spoke to her.
इत्युक्तवंतं तु मुनिं कुमारी नम्रकन्धरा
The maiden, with bowed neck, addressed the sage who had spoken thus.
भवान्देवाङ्गनाभिश्च प्रार्थितः स्वर्गमण्डले
You have been sought by the divine maidens in the sphere of heaven.
नवद्वारेषु देहेस्मिन्दुर्गन्धाः संस्थिताः सदा 3.4.9.१० इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्या लज्जितो नारदस्तदा
In this body with nine gates, foul odors are always present. Hearing her words, Nārada was ashamed.
कुष्ठीभूतं मुनिं दृष्ट्वा शंकरो लोकशंकरः
Seeing the sage afflicted with leprosy, Śaṃkara, the benefactor of the world,
नारदस्य शुभं देहं कृत्वा शिवमुवाच ह
Restored Nārada's auspicious body and spoke to Śiva.
इत्युक्तं तं शिवः प्राह द्विजो भूत्वा भवान्भुवि
Thus addressed, Śiva said: Become a twice-born on earth.
सविता भानुमत्या च सार्द्धं कृत्वा तपोन्वहम् तं भजाशु महेन्द्र त्वं देवकार्यं प्रसाधय
Together with Bhānumatī, Savitā performed austerities for a year. Worship him quickly, O Mahendra, and accomplish the task of the gods.
सवितारं पौषमासे तुष्टाव शुभ पूजनैः
In the month of Pauṣa, Savitā was worshipped with auspicious offerings.
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्देवानाह शुभं वचः
Then, pleased, the Lord spoke auspicious words to the gods.
रोगैश्च पीडिताँल्लोकान्कलिना निर्मितैर्भुवि
The worlds are afflicted by diseases created by Kali on earth.
इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्सूर्यः काशीनगरमागतः
Having spoken thus, the blessed Sun entered the city of Kashi.
सुश्रुतं राजपुत्रं च विप्रवृद्धसमन्वितम् 3.4.9.
Suśruta, along with the prince and venerable Brahmins, was present.
रोगैश्च क्षयितं देहं काल्पमेतत्स्मृतं बुधैः
His body, afflicted by diseases and worn away, was remembered by the wise as being in this condition.
धन्वतरिस्स भगवान्प्रसिद्धोभूत्कलौ युगे
Dhanvantari, the blessed one, became renowned in the Kali age.
सुश्रुतः कल्पवेदं तं धन्वत्तरिविनिर्मितम्
Suśruta learned the science of medicine created by Dhanvantari.
चतुष्षष्टिकलाभिज्ञो रविपूजनतत्परः
He was expert in sixty-four arts and devoted to the worship of the Sun.
त्यक्त्वा प्रतिग्रहं वृत्तिं कारुवृत्तिं गृहीतवान्
Renouncing the acceptance of gifts, he adopted the profession of an artisan.
धातुमूर्तिकलं चैव सर्वकारुकलं तथा
He mastered the arts of working with metals and all crafts.
कलएको मासमात्रे काले तेनैव निर्मितः विश्वकर्मा रविः साक्षान्माघमासे प्रकाशकः
A single art was created by him in just a month's time; Viśvakarma, the Sun himself, revealed it in the month of Māgha.
हेलिनो बहुलैर्यज्ञैस्सन्तुष्टः प्रत्यहं प्रभुः
The Lord was satisfied daily by many sacrifices performed by the Helis.
ज्योतीरूपो महारम्यस्तत्र प्राप्तो रविः स्वयम्
The Sun himself, radiant and exceedingly beautiful, arrived there.
भुक्त्वा स प्रत्यहं स्वामी मासिमासि दिवाकरः 3.4.9.
The Lord, the Sun, ate every day, month by month.
सहस्रायुर्द्विजो भूत्वा त्यक्त्वा प्राणान्रविः स्वयम् तं सूर्यं भज देवेन्द्र स ते कार्यं करिष्यति
Having become a Brahmin with a thousand years of life, the Sun himself relinquished his breath; worship that Sun, O Indra of the gods, he will accomplish your task.
सूर्यमाराधयामास विश्वकर्माणमुत्तमम्
He worshipped the supreme Viśvakarma, the Sun.
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवांस्त्वष्टा तुष्टिकरोजनान्
Then the blessed Tvaṣṭṛ, pleased, brought satisfaction to the people.
बिल्ग्रामे वंगदेशे संभवामि निरुक्तकृत्
In Bil village, in the land of Bengal, I will be born as the creator of Nirukta.
इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्सूर्यो वंगदेशमुपाययौ
Having spoken thus, the blessed Sun went to the land of Bengal.
स पंचाब्दवपुर्भूत्वा पितृमातृपरायणः
He became a youth of five years, devoted to his father and mother.
