ऋषिरूपधरश्चासीज्जयंत्या भार्यया सह
He assumed the form of a sage, together with his wife Jayantī.
दधार मनसा देवी जयन्ती पतिदेवता
The goddess Jayantī, devoted to her husband, bore him in her mind.
अथ सर्वगुणोपेते काले परमशोभने
Then, at a most auspicious time endowed with all virtues,
कृत्तिकाभे महारम्ये उच्चस्थे ग्रहपं चक्रे
When the planets were exalted, in the beautiful constellation resembling Kṛttikā,
जयन्त्यां जयरूपिण्यां जजान जगदीश्वरः
In Jayantī, who embodied victory, the Lord of the universe was born.
विरिञ्चिरेकदा तस्मिन्निम्बार्कस्याश्रमे शुभे 3.4.7.
Once, in the auspicious hermitage of Nimbārka, Brahmā (Viriñci) was present.
यावत्सूर्यः स्थितो व्योम्नि तावन्मां भोजय द्विज
As long as the Sun remains in the sky, O twice-born, feed me.
तदा तु भगवान्सूर्यो ह्यस्ताचलमुपागतः
Then, the Lord Sun approached the western mountain.
स्थापितं तेजसा स्वेन तेजस्तत्त्वं सुदर्शनम्
By his own radiance, he established the true essence of brilliance, the Sudarshana.
भिक्षुवेषधरं बालं मुनिं सूर्यमिवापरम्
A child sage, wearing the garb of a mendicant, appeared like another sun.
उवाच वचनं रम्यं साधु साध्विति पूजयन्
He spoke pleasing words, honoring him with the praise, 'Excellent, excellent!'
पुरा त्रेतायुगे शक्र शक्रशर्मा द्विजो ह्यभूत् । अयोध्यायां महाभागो देवपूजनतत्परः
Long ago, in the Treta Yuga, O Indra, there was a twice-born named Shakrasharma, most fortunate, devoted to the worship of the gods in Ayodhya.
अश्विनौ च तथा रुद्वान्वसून्सूर्यान्पृथक्पृथक् हव्यैश्च तर्पयामास देवाँस्तान्प्रत्यहं द्विजः
He satisfied the Ashvins, Rudras, Vasus, and Suns, each separately, with offerings; that Brahmin worshipped those gods daily.
तद्भावतस्त्रयस्त्रिंशद्देवाः क्षुद्रगणैर्युताः
Because of that devotion, the thirty-three gods, accompanied by lesser hosts,
दशवर्षसहस्राणि निर्जरो निरुपद्रवः
For ten thousand years, he remained free from old age and without trouble.
लक्षाब्दं मण्डले तस्मिन्नधिकारः कृतस्ततः
In that realm, he was granted authority for a hundred thousand years.
अष्टवर्षसहस्राणि दिव्यानि पदमुत्तमम्
He attained the highest divine position for eight thousand celestial years.
इति श्रुत्वा तु वचनं महेन्द्रः सुरसंयुतः
Hearing these words, Mahendra, surrounded by the gods,
आषाढपूर्णिमायां च स देवो जगतीतले
On the full moon of Ashadha, that god descended to the earth.
वृन्दावने महारम्ये जनयिष्ये कलौ भये
In the most delightful Vrindavana, I will be born in the fearful age of Kali.
माधवस्य द्विजस्यैव तनयः स भविष्यति 3.4.8.
He will be the son of the Brahmin Madhava.
स्वांगात्तु तेज उत्पाद्य वृंदावनमप्रे(पे?)षयत्
Producing radiance from his own body, he sent it to Vrindavana.
विमुखान्मधुरालापैर्वशीकृत्य समन्ततः ॥ तेभ्यश्च वैष्णवीं शक्तिं प्रददौ भुक्तिमुक्तिदाम् । मध्वाचार्य इति ख्यातः प्रसिद्धोऽभून्महीतले
Enchanting the disinterested with sweet words on every side, he gave them Vaishnava power, bestowing both enjoyment and liberation; he became renowned on earth as Madhvacharya.
जीव उवाच द्वापरे च द्विजश्रेष्ठो मेघशर्मा बभूव ह
Jiva said: In Dvapara too, there was a foremost Brahmin named Meghasharma.
कृषिकृत्यपरो नित्यं तद्धनैश्च दशांशकैः
Always engaged in the work of agriculture, he gave a tenth part of his wealth.
एकदा पञ्चवर्षाब्दे शन्तनौ च महीपतौ
Once, when he was five years old, and Shantanu was king,
क्रोशमात्रं हि तत्क्षेत्रं पर्जन्येनैव सेचितम्
That field, measuring a krosha, was irrigated solely by rain.
मेघशर्मा तदा तत्र धनधान्ययुतोऽभवत्। अन्ये तु पीडिता लोका राजानं शरण ययुः
At that time, Meghaśarmā there became endowed with wealth and grain; but other people, afflicted, went to the king for refuge.
तदा तु दुःखितो राजा मेघशर्माणमाह्वयत्
Then the king, being distressed, summoned Meghaśarmā.
अनावृष्टिर्यथा न स्यात्तथा विप्र समादिश
O brāhmaṇa, instruct me so that there may not be a drought.
