पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं धर्मवर्मा सुतोऽभवत्
Dharmavarma, his son, governed the realm in the same manner as his father.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यमुदयस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्
Udaya, his son, administered the kingdom as his father had done.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं वाप्यकर्मा सुतोऽभवत्
Vāpyakarma, his son, managed the kingdom in the same way as his father.
धर्मार्थे कारयामास धर्मात्मा स च वै पुरम्
That righteous soul established the city for the sake of dharma and prosperity.
लक्षसैन्ययुतो वीरो महामदमते स्थितः
A heroic man, accompanied by an army of a hundred thousand, stood firm in great resolve.
जित्वा पैशाचकान्म्लेच्छान्कृष्णोत्सवमकारयत्
Having defeated the Piśācas and Mlecchas, he celebrated the festival of Krishna.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं कालभोजः सुतोऽभवत्
Kālabhoja, his son, ruled the kingdom in the same manner as his father.
स त्यक्त्वा पैतृकं स्थानं वैष्णवीं शक्तिमागमत् ।। 3.4.3.
He abandoned his ancestral place and attained the Vaiṣṇava power.
प्रसन्ना सा तदा देवी कारयामास वै पुरीम्
Then the goddess, pleased, caused the city to be established.
तत्रोष्य नृपतिर्धीमान्दशाब्दं राज्यमाप्तवान्
There, the wise king resided and obtained the kingdom for ten years.
प्रजयः पितरौ त्यक्त्वा गंगाकूलमुपाययौ
Leaving behind his parents, Prajaya went to the bank of the Ganges.
कन्या मूर्तिमयी देवी वेणुवादनतत्परा
A maiden, the goddess in embodied form, devoted herself to playing the flute.
किन्निमित्तं भूपसुत त्वया चाराधिता शिवा
For what reason, O prince, have you worshipped Śivā?
इति श्रुत्वा स होवाच कुमारि मधुरस्वरे
Hearing this, he replied to the maiden in a sweet voice.
इति श्रुत्वा तु सा देवी ददौ तस्मै हयं शुभम्
Upon hearing this, the goddess gave him a splendid horse.
स भूपो हयमारुह्य नेत्र आच्छाद्य चाययौ
The king mounted the horse, covered his eyes, and departed.
ततोनुप्रययौ पूर्वमर्कणो यत्र पक्षिराट्
Then Markaṇa, the king of birds, went ahead to that place.
ददर्श नगरं रम्यं कन्याया रचितं शुभम् 3.4.3.
He saw a beautiful and auspicious city, constructed by the maiden.
पश्चिमे ईशसरिता पूर्वे पक्षी स मर्कणः
To the west was the sacred river, and to the east was Markaṇa, the bird.
दशवर्षं च तेनैव जयपालेन वै पदम्
For ten years, that very place was ruled by Jayapāla.
स वेणुश्च महीपालो देवीदत्तां मनोहराम्
That king Veṇu also received the enchanting Devī as his wife.
तस्यां सप्त सुता जाता मातॄणां मंगलाः कलाः
From her were born seven sons, auspicious manifestations of the Mothers.
गोवर्धनी च सिंदूरा काली नाम्ना प्रकीर्तिता
Govardhanī and Siṃdūrā, and one called Kālī by name, are mentioned.
वाराही च तथेन्द्राणी चामुण्डाः क्रमतोऽभवन्
Then Vārāhī, as well as Indrāṇī and Cāmuṇḍā, were born in order.
कूपे कृतवती प्रेम्णा यथा पूर्वं तथाद्य सा
She, as before, lovingly performed her duties at the well, even today.
स्वयमेकैव वसना मनोग्लानिमुपाययौ
Living alone, she became weary in her mind.
दृष्ट्वा कन्यावती देवी घटहीना गृहं ययौ
Seeing the maiden Devī without her water pot, she went home.
श्रुत्वा वेणुस्तदागत्य भर्त्सयित्वा स्वकां प्रियाम् 3.4.3.
Then Veṇu, having come and rebuked his beloved, heard of this.
नृपाद्वै वीरवत्यां च यशोविग्रह आत्मजः
From King Vīravatī was born Yaśovigraha, his own son.
विंशद्वर्षं कृतं राज्यं तेन राज्ञा महीतले
That king ruled the earth for twenty years.
