स्थिता द्वीपेषु वै नाना मनुजा वेदतत्पराः
Various people devoted to the Vedas dwelled on the islands.
अष्टषष्टिसहस्राणां वर्षाणां मुनिसत्तम
O best of sages, for sixty-eight thousand years,
षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि द्वीपराज्यमचीकरत्
For sixty thousand years, they ruled the islands.
तत्पश्चाद्भारते वर्षे म्लेच्छया कलिराययौ
After that, in the land of Bhārata, Kali arrived through the mlecchas.
भयभीतस्त्वराविष्टो गन्धर्वाणां यशस्करः
Fearing danger and seized by haste, he brought fame to the Gandharvas.
ततो वर्षशताब्दांते संतुष्टो रविरागतः
Then, at the end of a hundred years, the satisfied Sun arrived.
चतुर्वर्षसहस्राणि चतुर्वर्षशतानि च
Four thousand years and four hundred years,
संपन्नं भारतं वर्षं तदा जातं समंततः । ।।। 3.4.3.
At that time, the land of Bhārata became prosperous everywhere.
सहस्राब्दकलौ प्राप्ते महेन्द्रो देवराट् स्वयम्
When a thousand years of Kali had passed, Mahendra, king of the gods, himself,
आर्यावती देवशक्तिस्तत्करं चाग्रहीन्मुदा
Āryāvatī, the divine power, gladly accepted his hand.
मिश्रदेशोद्भवान्म्लेच्छान्वशीकृत्यायुतं मुदा
Having joyfully subdued ten thousand mlecchas born in foreign lands,
नष्टायां सप्तपुर्यां च ब्रह्मावर्तं महोत्तमम्
and after the destruction of the seven cities, the most excellent Brahmavarta,
स्वपुत्रं शुक्लमाहूय द्विजश्रेष्ठं तपोधनम्
he summoned his own son Shukla, the best of twice-born, rich in austerity,
नवपुत्राँस्तथा शिष्यान्मनुधर्मं सनातनम्
as well as his nine sons and disciples, and the eternal law of Manu.
शुक्लोपि रैवतं प्राप्य सच्चिदानंदविग्रहम्
Shukla too, having reached Raivata, who possessed the form of existence, consciousness, and bliss,
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्द्वार कानायको बली
then the blessed Lord, the mighty chief of Dvaraka, became pleased.
द्वारकां दर्शयामास दिव्यशोभासमन्विताम्
He revealed Dvaraka, endowed with divine splendor.
अग्निद्वारेण प्रययौ स शुक्लोऽर्बुदपर्वते 3.4.3.
Shukla went by the Agni gate to Mount Arbuda.
द्वारकां कारयामास हरेश्च कृपया हि सः
By the grace of Hari, he caused Dvaraka to be built.
पश्चिमे भारते वर्षे दशाब्दं कृतवान्पदम्
In the western region of Bharata, he established his position for ten years.
विंशदब्दं कृतं राज्यं जयसेनस्ततोऽभवत्
He ruled for twenty years, and then Jayasena became king.
शतार्धाब्दं कृतं राज्यं मिथुनं तस्य चाभवत्
He ruled for fifty years, and he had a son.
विसेनश्च ददौ प्रीत्या राष्ट्रं पुत्राय चोत्तमम्
Visena, out of affection, gave the excellent kingdom to his son.
सिंधुकूले कृतं राज्यं त्यक्त्वा तत्पैतृकं पदम्
Having ruled on the banks of the Sindhu, he relinquished that ancestral position.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं राज्ञा वै सिंधुवर्मणा
King Sindhuvarman ruled in a manner equal to his father.
श्रीपतिस्तस्य तनयो गौतमान्वयसंभवाम्
Shripati was his son, born in the lineage of Gautama.
पुलिन्दान्यवनाञ्जित्वा तत्र देशमकारयत्
Having conquered the Pulindas and Yavanas, he established a country there.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं भुजवर्मा ततोऽभवत् ।। 3.4.3.
After him, Bhujavarman ruled, equal to his father.
भुजदेशस्ततो जातः प्रसिद्धोऽभून्महीतले
From there arose the land of the Bhujas, renowned upon the earth.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं चित्रवर्मा सुतोऽभवत्
Citravarma, his son, ruled the kingdom just as his father had.
