Thus addressed, the king proceeded to the battlefield.
Accompanied by ten sons, he entered the battle, supported by an army of a hundred thousand.
When all those were slain, the two kings, with their sons and forces, remained.

Lakṣaṇa, mounting his chariot, confronted the king who was the enemy of his father.
Then Bhagadatta, enraged, rendered him chariotless, having slain his horses and charioteer, and advanced toward Bhagadatta.
Having crushed that shield and cut through the armor that emerged from it,
At dusk, when he was slain, Lakṣaṇa, filled with urgency,
When Bhagadatta was slain, that king, overcome with wrath, sent forth forces for battle on the very next day.

Minor kings, three hundred in number, assembled against other minor kings.

Then Cāmuṇḍa, seeing all the kings slain,
Lakṣaṇa, recognizing that Raktabīja was esteemed by the brāhmaṇas,
When evening came, Lakṣaṇa stood upon an elephant.
And at dawn on the second day, Kṛṣṇāṃśa, accompanied by the gods,

Within the span of a single watch, those two heroes slew all the earth’s rulers.
Cāmuṇḍa and Tāraka, cunning and keen to find an opening, approached.
