इति श्रुत्वा स कृष्णांशः खड्गयुद्धमचीकरत् तदा च देहलीं प्राप्य महीराजान्तमाययौ
Hearing this, Kṛṣṇāṃśa engaged in sword combat; then, reaching the threshold, he went to the king of the earth.
कोटिस्वर्णं ददौ राजा कृष्णांशाय महात्मने
The king gave ten million gold coins to the great-souled Kṛṣṇāṃśa.
वसूनाराधायामास पंचवर्षान्तरे मुदा
He worshipped the Vasus with joy for a period of five years.
वरदानाच्च सञ्जाता दश पुत्रा महीपतेः १३७ तद्विवाहार्थमाहूय महीराजं महाबलम्
And by the granting of boons, ten sons were born to the king; for their marriage, he invited the mighty king of the earth.
महीराजसुतो भीमः पत्नीं प्राप्य मनोरमाम्
Bhima, the son of the king, obtained as wife the charming lady.
तदा पैशाचदेशस्थः सहोदश्च महीपतिः 3.3.31.
At that time, the king, along with Sahoda, was residing in the land of the Pishachas.
बलिदैत्याज्ञया प्राप्तः कुरुक्षेत्रं शुभस्थलम्
By the command of Bali, the mighty Daitya, he arrived at Kurukshetra, the auspicious place.
पत्रमालिख्य बलवान्महीराजाय धर्मिणे
Writing a letter, the powerful and righteous king sent it to the king of the earth.
भवान्म्लेच्छपती राजा विद्युन्मालार्थमुद्यतः
You, the king of the Mlecchas, are prepared for Vidyunmala.
इत्युक्त्वा स त्रिलक्षैश्च कुरुक्षेत्रमुपागतः
Having said this, he came to Kurukshetra with three hundred thousand (soldiers).
निशीथे समनुप्राप्ते ज्येष्ठे मासि तमोमये
When midnight arrived, in the dark month of Jyeshtha,
नृपसैन्यं जघानाशु भक्षयित्वा पुनः पुनः
He swiftly struck down the king's army, devouring them again and again.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे देवाः कृष्णांशाद्या महाबलाः
Meanwhile, the gods, beginning with Krishna and others of great might,
हत्वा दैत्यसहस्राणि बलिदैत्यमुपाययुः स्वखड्गैस्तर्पयामास दैत्यराजं महाबलम्
Having slain thousands of Daityas, they approached Bali, the mighty Daitya king, and with their own swords satisfied the powerful Daitya king.
तदा प्रसन्नो बलवान्दैत्यराजो बलिः स्वयम्
Then the powerful Daitya king Bali himself became pleased.
आर्यदेशं च ते दैत्या नागच्छन्तु त्वया सह 3.3.31.
Let these Daityas not come to the land of the Aryas together with you.
इति श्रुत्वा वचो घोरं विप्रियं च बलिः स्वयम्
Hearing these terrible and disagreeable words, Bali himself—
तदा प्रसन्नः कृष्णांशो वचनं प्राह निर्भयः तत्पश्चाद्भूमिमागत्य यथायोग्यं कुरुष्व भोः
Then Krishna, being pleased, spoke these fearless words: 'Afterwards, coming to the earth, do as is proper, O sir.'
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा सहोदो नीलसंयुतः
Hearing those words, Sahoda, accompanied by Nila—
भूमिराजः प्रसन्नात्मा कोटिस्वर्णं ददौ तदा
Then the king of the earth, with a pleased heart, gave ten million gold coins.
पंचमाब्दवया भूत्वा श्रीदं तुष्टाव भक्तितः
Having reached the age of five, Śrīda praised with devotion.
तत्सर्वनिधिभावेन नृपकोशः समन्ततः
With all the treasures, the royal treasury was filled on every side.
किंनरी नाम या कन्या मंकणस्य प्रकीर्तिता इति ते कथितं सर्वं विवाहचरितं मुने
The maiden named Kiṃnarī, renowned as Maṃkaṇa's daughter—thus, O sage, the entire story of the marriage has been told to you.
धुन्धुकारो महाशूरो लक्षसैन्यसमन्वितः
Dhundhukāra, exceedingly valiant, was accompanied by an army of a hundred thousand.
एकत्रिंशाब्दके प्राप्ते कृष्णांशे बलवत्तरे ब्रह्मास्त्रं चाप आधाय चार्धसैन्यमदाहयत्
When the thirty-first year arrived, under the powerful influence of Kṛṣṇa, he set the Brahmāstra on his bow and burned half the army.
पंचायुताश्च ते शूरा भयभीता दिशो गताः 3.3.31.
And those fifty thousand warriors, terrified, fled in all directions.
महीराजस्तदा दुःखी भयभीतः समंततः
At that time, the king of the earth was sorrowful and greatly afraid on all sides.
कथं जयो मे भविता तत्सर्वं मंत्रयाशु वै
How will victory be mine? All this he quickly consulted about.
कृत्वा नारीमयं वेषं चामुण्डं बलशालिनम्
Assuming the guise of a woman, the powerful Cāmuṇḍa was present.
चत्वारस्ते सुताः शूरा धुंधुकारेण संयुता
Those four valiant sons, together with Dhundhukāra.
