इत्युक्तः स महीराजो विस्मितोभूत्सुदुःखितः
Thus addressed, the king of the earth became astonished and deeply distressed.
इति ज्ञात्वा तदाऽऽह्लादः शूरपंचशतावृतः
Knowing this, then Ahlada, surrounded by fifty valiant men,
शतयोजनगामिन्यो वाजिन्यश्च द्वियामके सहस्रयोजनं वीर्यं तासां चैव दिने निशि
The mares, each capable of traveling a hundred yojanas, in pairs, possessed the strength to go a thousand yojanas in a single day and night.
कलांशादुद्भवा अश्वा वाजिना च हरेः स्वयम्
The horses, born from portions of the moon, and the steeds of Hari himself,
गायत्रो योभवद्वाजी कालचक्रप्रवर्तकः हरिणी नाम तच्छक्तिः कलांशाद्भूमिमागता
The steed named Gayatra, who set the wheel of time in motion, and the power called Harini, descended to earth from a portion of the moon.
आह्लादश्च करालस्थो बिंदुलस्थो हरेः कला
Ahlada, stationed in Karala, and Bindulastha, a portion of Hari,
गत्वा ते तु महीराजं नत्वा तुंगासनां ययुः 3.3.31.
They went to the king of the earth, bowed, and ascended the lofty seat.
मम पुत्राश्च युष्माभिस्त्रयः शूरा विवाहिताः
Three of my sons, valiant men, have been married by you.
इति श्रुत्वा स आह्लादो गत्वा भूतलमुत्तमम्
Hearing this, Ahlada went to the excellent surface of the earth.
सुप्तो हि तव भर्ता च पुंडरीकः शुभाननः
Your husband, Pundarika of auspicious face, is asleep.
इत्युक्ता साह तं वीरं पुंडरीकश्च मत्पतिः
Thus addressed, she said to that hero, 'Pundarika is my husband.'
इति श्रुत्वा विहस्याह तव भर्तुर्न नो भयम्
Hearing this, she laughed and said, 'We have no fear of your husband.'
प्रबुद्धश्च तदा राजा नागानां च महाबलः
Then the king, mighty among the serpents, awoke.
दृष्ट्वा तद्विषमुज्ज्वालं स ध्यात्वा सर्वमंगलाम्
Seeing that dazzling poison, he meditated on all that is auspicious.
पुंडरीकः प्रसन्नात्मा नागभूषणमुत्तमम्
Puṇḍarīka, of serene mind, possessed the finest serpent ornaments.
आह्लादस्तु हयारूढो महीराजाय दत्तवान् कोटिस्वर्णं नृपात्प्राप्तं गृहीत्वा शीघ्रमाययौ
Āhlāda, mounted on a horse, gave to the king of the earth ten million gold coins, which he had received from the king, and quickly departed after taking them.
हयविद्यासमारूढास्ते हया गेहमागताः 3.3.31.
Those horses, skilled in the science of horsemanship, returned home.
सूत उवाच पञ्चाब्दं पूजयामास स्वर्गवैद्यौ सुरोत्तमौ
Sūta said: For five years, he worshipped the two excellent celestial physicians.
तयोश्च वरदानेन दश पुत्रा बभूविरे
And by the boon granted by them, ten sons were born.
स महीराजमाहूय त्रिलक्षबलसंयुतम्
He summoned the king of the earth, endowed with three hundred thousand troops.
नवोढां तु तदा पत्नीं सूर्यवर्मा गृहीतवान्
At that time, Sūryavarman took a newly-wedded wife.
कर्बुरोनाम मायावी विभीषणसुतो बली
Karbura by name, a powerful magician, was the son of Vibhīṣaṇa.
मद्रकेशस्य तनयां दिव्यशोभासमन्वि ताम्
He took the daughter of Madrakeśa, endowed with divine beauty.
महीराजस्तदा दुःखी विललाप भृशं मुहुः
Then the king of the earth, greatly distressed, lamented again and again.
कृष्णांशं प्रेषयामास स गत्वा समवर्णयत्
He sent Kṛṣṇāṃśa, who went and reported everything.
सह्याद्रिगिरिमागम्य कृष्णां शः कर्बुरं प्रति
Having reached Mount Sahyādri, Kṛṣṇāṃśa went to Karbura.
विभीषणो भक्तराजस्तस्य त्वं दयितः सुतः रावणेन पुरा सीता संहृता विदितं तव ।। 3.3.31.
Vibhīṣaṇa, king among devotees, said: You are my beloved son; formerly, Sītā was abducted by Rāvaṇa, as you know.
इति श्रुत्वा स होवाच पुरेयं दयिता प्रिया
Hearing this, he said: This beloved one is dear to me from before.
अतोऽहं तद्वियोगेन त्यक्त्वा लंकां महापुरीम् न जहार प्रियां रम्यां तत्रोषित्वा दिनं बहु
Therefore, separated from her, I abandoned the great city of Laṅkā; I did not take the lovely beloved, but remained there for many days.
अद्य मे वशगा साभून्नाम्ना कांतिमती शुभा
Today, that auspicious lady named Kāntimatī has come under my control.
