तदा स्वर्णवती देवी स्वदास्या शोभया सह
Then the goddess Svarṇavatī, together with her attendant Śobhā,
तया संप्रेषिता शोभा म्लेच्छमायाविशारदा
By her, Śobhā, skilled in the magic of the mlecchas, was sent.
उवाच वचनं तत्र शृणु भूपशिरोमणे
There she spoke these words: 'Hear, O foremost of kings.'
दंपती तव भूपाल संहृतौ येन यत्र वै
O king, your royal couple was taken away—by whom and where—
आह्लादश्चेन्दुलो वीरो देवो वै तालनो बली
Āhlāda is the valiant one on the moon, the god Tālana is mighty.
इत्युक्त्वा शोभना वेश्या कृत्वा योगमयं वपुः प्रययौ तान्पुरस्कृत्य योगिवेषान्महाब लान्।। 3.3.30.
Having said this, the courtesan Śobhanā, assuming a yogic form, went forth, placing those great warriors in the guise of ascetics at the front.
आह्लादो गजसंस्थो वै करालारूढ इन्दुलः कृष्णांशो बिन्दुलारूढो नर्तयामास तं हयम्
Āhlāda was mounted on an elephant, Indula rode Karāla, Krishna's portion mounted Bindula and made that horse dance.
कामरूपमयं देशं शतयोजनगामिनः लक्षणं शोधयामासुर्न प्राप्तास्तत्र तं नृपम्
They searched the region, magical in form and stretching a hundred yojanas, for the king with auspicious marks, but did not find him there.
पुनर्मयूरनगरं शोभना तैः समन्विता
Again, Śobhanā, accompanied by them, went to the city of Mayūra.
पुनरिन्नगढग्रामं शोभना च जनेजने
Again, Śobhanā went to the village of Innagaḍha, among the people.
गत्वा बाह्लीकनगरं शोभना तैस्समन्विता
She went to the splendid city of Bahlika, accompanied by them.
पुनः स्वदेशमागम्य बाह्लीकं म्लेच्छवासिनम् पूजयित्वा च सा वेश्या गाननृत्यपराभवत्
Then, returning to her own land, she honored Bahlika, inhabited by foreigners, and that courtesan devoted herself to singing and dancing.
स देवो भूमिमध्यात् समागम्य मुदान्वितः
That god, filled with joy, emerged from the midst of the earth.
अहं कालाग्निरुद्रेण भूमिगर्ते सुरोपितः
I was placed in the pit of the earth by Kālāgni Rudra.
इति श्रुत्वा च सा शोभा निराशाभूत्तदा स्वयम्
Hearing this, Shobha then became despondent herself.
पुनः स्वर्णवतीं प्राप्य सर्वमेवा दितोऽब्रवीत् 3.3.30.
Again reaching Svarnavati, she told everything to Dita.
तानाश्वास्य सुवर्णांगी पूजयामास चंडिकाम् निशीथान्ते तमःप्राप्ते गत्वाह जगदम्बिका
Consoling them, Suvarnangi worshipped Chandika; at the end of night, when darkness came, she went to Jagadambika.
पद्मिनी नाम या नारी मणिदेवस्य वै प्रिया
The woman named Padmini was the beloved of Manideva.
सेनापतिः कुबेरस्य मणिदेवो हि स स्मृतः
Manideva is known as the commander of Kubera.
तदा तत्पद्मिनी नारी देवदेवमुमापतिम्
Then that woman Padmini approached the god of gods, the consort of Uma.
शतवर्षांतरे देवो महादेव उवाच ताम्
After a hundred years, Mahadeva spoke to her.
नकुलांशं च संप्राप्य भुक्त्वा तेन महत्सुखम् स्वपतिं च तदा प्राप्य कैलासं पुनरेष्यसि
Obtaining a portion of Nakula and enjoying great happiness through him, you will then attain your husband and return again to Kailasa.
महावतीं पुरीं रम्यां राष्ट्रपालाय शारदा
Sharada, for the protection of the realm, [will go to] the delightful city of Mahavati.
तया विरचितो भूमौ ग्रामरक्षार्थमुद्यतः
By her, a protective measure was established on earth for the safety of the village.
अतः स्वर्णवति त्वं वै कैलासं गुह्यकालयम्
Therefore, Svarnavati, you shall go to Kailasa, the secret abode of the Yakshas.
इति श्रुत्वा स्वर्णवती पद्मिनीं प्रति चागमत् 3.3.30.
Hearing this, Svarnavati went to Padmini.
कामपालगृहं प्राप्य तत्र वासमकारयत्
Arriving at the house of Kamapala, she took up residence there.
तस्यां गतायां गेहे वै पद्मिन्या लिखितं शुभम्
When Padmini had gone from that house, an auspicious writing was found.
इति ज्ञात्वा च कृष्णांशो लक्षद्वादशसेनया
Thus understanding, the portion of Krishna, with an army of one hundred and twenty thousand,
कामपालस्तु बलवांस्त्रिलक्षबलसंयुतः
The powerful Kamapala, accompanied by an army of three hundred thousand,
