उवाच च विलप्याशु मत्पतिर्ल क्षणो बली अहं योषा भवान्योगी कथं कार्यं भविष्यति
Cried out and said, 'My husband Lakṣaṇa is strong; I am a woman, you are a yogin—how will this matter be resolved?'
इति श्रुत्वा तु स नृपो भुजमुत्थाप्य सत्वरम् राजद्वारमुपागम्य कृष्णांशस्स ननर्त ह
Hearing this, the king quickly raised his arm, went to the royal gate, and Kṛṣṇāṃśa began to dance.
महीराजस्तु बलवान्प्रसन्नस्तस्यलीलया
The powerful king of the earth was pleased by his play.
इति श्रुत्वा भूपवचो विहस्योवाच तं प्रति दर्शयाशु स्वकीयं वै भवान्भूपशिरोमणिः
Hearing the king's words, he laughed and said to him, 'Show your own self quickly, O best of kings.'
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिर्मोहितः कृष्णलीलया
Hearing thus, the king was deluded by Krishna's play.
ततस्ते योगिनस्सर्वे संप्राप्य च महावतीम् ।। 3.3.30.
Then all those yogis, having reached the great city,
स्वसेनां सज्जयामास चाह्लादश्च नृपाज्ञया
He arrayed his army, and Ahlada did so by the king's command.
तालनस्सप्त लक्षाणि सैन्यान्याहूय चागतः देहलीं च समाजग्मुस्सर्वशस्त्रसमन्विताः
Talanas, numbering seven lakhs, were summoned and arrived; and they came to Delhi, all equipped with weapons.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे मन्त्री चद्रभट्टो विशारदः
Meanwhile, the wise minister Chadrabhatta,
महीराजं समागम्य वचः प्राह शृणुष्व भोः
Approached the king and spoke these words: 'Hear, O lord!'
तत्रोदयश्च कृष्णांशः पूर्णब्रह्माणमागमत्
There, Udaya, a portion of Krishna, approached the supreme Brahman.
अग्निवंशविनाशाय चाद्य यास्यामि देहलीम्
Today, for the destruction of the Agni lineage, I will go to Delhi.
पुनस्तवान्तिकं प्राप्य रहः क्रीडां करोम्यहम् इत्यहं दृष्टवान्भूप कृष्णांशं योगनिद्रया
Again, coming to you, I will play in secret; thus I saw, O king, the Krishna portion in yogic sleep.
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा स भूपो विस्मयान्वितः तेभ्यश्च लक्षणं दत्त्वा वचनं प्राह तान्प्रति
Hearing these words, the king was filled with wonder; giving them the sign, he spoke to them.
पद्माकराय भूपाय गत्वा दत्त्वाशु लक्षणम्
Go to Padmakara, the king, and quickly give the sign.
इति श्रुत्वा तु ते सर्वे वह्निवंश्या महाबलाः 3.3.30.
Hearing this, all those mighty ones of the Agni lineage,
भगदंतश्च तेषां तु सहस्राणां च नायकः
And among them, Bhagadamta was the leader of thousands.
पद्मिनी मे स्वसा राजन् गुप्तविद्याविशारदा
O king, Padmini is my sister, skilled in secret knowledge.
दत्तस्तेन वरो रम्यो ह्यन्तर्धानमयः परः इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिः परमानन्दमाप्तवान्
By him, a beautiful boon was given, of supreme disappearance; hearing this, the king attained supreme joy.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे प्राप्ताः कृष्णांशाद्या महाबलाः
Meanwhile, the mighty ones led by Krishna's portion arrived.
स तदा पृथिवीराजो गृहीत्वा बहुभूषणम्
Then the king of the earth took many ornaments.
लक्षणो नाम ते राजा कारागारे न वै मम
The king named Lakshana is not in my prison.
इत्युक्त्वा तं च कृष्णांशं दर्शयामास वै गृहम्
Having said this, he showed that portion of Krishna to the house.
तदोदयो भूपवचः सत्यं मत्वा सुदुःखितः
Considering the king's words to be true, he became deeply distressed.
कामपालस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा कृष्णांशागमनं बली प्रांजलिः प्रणतो भूत्वा वचनं प्राह भीरुकः
Hearing of Krishna's arrival, Kamapala, strong yet fearful, with joined palms and bowing down, spoke these words.
सुता मे पद्मिनी नारी लक्षणेन समन्विता 3.3.30.
My daughter is a lotus-faced woman, endowed with auspicious marks.
इति तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा कृष्णांशः स्वबलैस्सह
Hearing these words, Krishna's portion, along with his forces,
भ्रातृजस्तव भूपाल पद्मिन्या लक्षणोऽन्वितः
O king, your brother is endowed with the marks of Padmī.
न जाने क्व गतो राजा मम प्राणसमो भुवि
I do not know where the king, who is as dear to me as my own life, has gone on this earth.
हा रत्नभानुतनय विष्णुभक्त शुभंकर इत्युक्त्वा मूर्छितश्चासीत्कृष्णांशो वैष्णवप्रियः
Alas, O son of Ratnabhānu, devotee of Vishnu, bestower of auspiciousness—saying this, Krishna's portion, beloved of the Vaishnavas, fainted.
