इति तत्रत्यवचनं मत्वा राजा प्रसन्नधीः
Thus, considering the words spoken there, the king, with a clear mind.
आहूय प्रेषयामास कामपालाय धीमते
He summoned and sent the wise Kāmāpāla.
तदा पद्माकरः श्यालो ज्ञात्वा लक्षणमागतम्
Then Padmākara, the brother-in-law, knowing that Lakṣaṇa had arrived.
लक्षणो नकुलांशश्च दृष्ट्वा शत्रुमुपस्थितम्
Lakṣaṇa and Nakulāṃśa, seeing the enemy present.
मूर्च्छयित्वा महीराजं हत्वा पंचशतं बली
Having caused the king of the earth to faint, and having slain five hundred strong men.
उत्थितश्च महीराजो गत्वा पद्माकरं प्रति 3.3.30.
The king of the earth arose and went towards Padmākara.
लक्षणो मे महाञ्छत्रुस्स च त्वद्गेहमागतः
A great royal umbrella, a mark of distinction, has come to your house.
इति श्रुत्वा स लोभात्मा दत्त्वा हालाहलं विषम् हत्वा ताञ्छतशूरांश्च गुप्तवार्तामकारयन्
Hearing this, that greedy man gave them deadly poison, killed those hundred heroes, and concealed the matter.
ज्ञात्वा तत्पद्मिनी नारी दुःखितालप्य वै भृशम्
Knowing this, the lotus-faced woman became deeply distressed and lamented greatly.
तदा प्रसन्ना सा देवी वरदा सर्वमंगला
Then that goddess, pleased, the bestower of boons and all-auspicious, appeared.
स्वप्ने तमाह सा देवी ह्रीं फट् घेघे जपं कुरु
In a dream, that goddess said to her: 'Chant the mantra hrīṃ phaṭ gheghe.'
स बुद्ध्वा लक्षणो वीरस्तं मंत्रं च जजाप ह
Understanding this, the heroic Lakṣaṇa recited that mantra.
तालनश्च युतस्ताभ्यां कल्यकुब्जमुपाययौ ज्ञात्वा तत्कारणं तैश्च कृतं योगमयं वपुः
Tālana, joined by the two, went to Kalyakubja; knowing the reason, they assumed a yogic form.
धान्यपालः कांस्यधारी वीणाधारी च तालनः
Dhānyapāla bore a bronze vessel, and Tālana carried a vīṇā.
सभां परिमलस्यैव गत्वा ते योगरूपिणः
They, in yogic forms, entered the assembly of Parimala.
प्रसन्नश्च तदा राजा मुक्तामालां स्वकण्ठगाम् 3.3.30.
Then the king, pleased, placed a pearl necklace upon his own neck.
तदा ते हर्षिताः सर्वे कृष्णांशं प्रति चाययुः ययौ बिंदुगढं वीरस्तालनाद्यैस्समन्वितः
Then all of them, delighted, went towards Kṛṣṇāṃśa; the hero, accompanied by Tālana and others, went to Bindugaḍha.
हट्टमध्ये समागम्य कृत्वा रासोत्सवं शुभम्
Gathering in the marketplace, they held an auspicious festival of dance.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे सर्वा योषितस्तत्र चागताः मोहितास्तस्य गानेन जडीभूता धनं ददुः
Meanwhile, all the women who had come there, enchanted by his singing, became stupefied and gave their wealth.
तदा तु पद्मिनी नारी सर्वलक्षणसंयुता
At that time, the lotus-faced woman, endowed with all auspicious marks,
उवाच च विलप्याशु मत्पतिर्ल क्षणो बली अहं योषा भवान्योगी कथं कार्यं भविष्यति
Cried out and said, 'My husband Lakṣaṇa is strong; I am a woman, you are a yogin—how will this matter be resolved?'
इति श्रुत्वा तु स नृपो भुजमुत्थाप्य सत्वरम् राजद्वारमुपागम्य कृष्णांशस्स ननर्त ह
Hearing this, the king quickly raised his arm, went to the royal gate, and Kṛṣṇāṃśa began to dance.
महीराजस्तु बलवान्प्रसन्नस्तस्यलीलया
The powerful king of the earth was pleased by his play.
इति श्रुत्वा भूपवचो विहस्योवाच तं प्रति दर्शयाशु स्वकीयं वै भवान्भूपशिरोमणिः
Hearing the king's words, he laughed and said to him, 'Show your own self quickly, O best of kings.'
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिर्मोहितः कृष्णलीलया
Hearing thus, the king was deluded by Krishna's play.
ततस्ते योगिनस्सर्वे संप्राप्य च महावतीम् ।। 3.3.30.
Then all those yogis, having reached the great city,
स्वसेनां सज्जयामास चाह्लादश्च नृपाज्ञया
He arrayed his army, and Ahlada did so by the king's command.
तालनस्सप्त लक्षाणि सैन्यान्याहूय चागतः देहलीं च समाजग्मुस्सर्वशस्त्रसमन्विताः
Talanas, numbering seven lakhs, were summoned and arrived; and they came to Delhi, all equipped with weapons.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे मन्त्री चद्रभट्टो विशारदः
Meanwhile, the wise minister Chadrabhatta,
महीराजं समागम्य वचः प्राह शृणुष्व भोः
Approached the king and spoke these words: 'Hear, O lord!'
