लल्लसिंहश्च बलवान्कुंतिभोजांशसंभवः
Lallasiṃha, powerful and descended from the Kuntibhoja line, was also there.
तदा तु नेत्रसिंहश्च सप्तलक्षबलैर्वृतः
Then Nettrasiṃha, surrounded by seven hundred thousand warriors, was present.
भयभीताश्च ते बौद्धास्त्यक्त्वा देशं समन्ततः
Those Buddhists, seized by fear, abandoned the land in all directions.
तदनुप्रययुस्ते वै हूहानदमुपस्थिताः
After that, they went forth and arrived at Hūhānada.
श्यामदेशोद्भवा लक्षं तथा लक्षं च जापकाः
One hundred thousand from the land of Śyāma, and likewise one hundred thousand reciters, were there.
कृष्णांशो लक्षसेनाढ्यो देवो लक्षसमन्वितः
Kṛṣṇāṃśa, possessing a hundred thousand soldiers, and Deva, accompanied by a hundred thousand, were present.
मंडलीकश्चेन्दुलेन लक्षसैन्यसमन्वितः 3.3.29.
Maṇḍalīka, together with Indula, was accompanied by an army of one hundred thousand.
जननायक एवापि लक्षसैन्ययुतः स्थितः
Jananāyaka also stood there, joined by an army of one hundred thousand.
तत्र युद्धमभूद्घोरं बौद्धानामार्यकैस्सह
There, a dreadful battle took place between the Buddhists and the Āryakas.
सप्त लक्षं हता बौद्धा द्विलक्षं चार्यदेशजाः
Seven hundred thousand Buddhists were slain, and two hundred thousand from the land of the Āryas.
कृत्वा दारुमयीं सेनां कलयंत्रप्रभावतः
Having created a wooden army by the power of mechanical devices,
एकलक्षं हयारूढा दारुपाश्च रणोन्मुखाः
One hundred thousand horse-mounted wooden figures, eager for battle,
सिंहारूढास्सहस्रं च सहस्रं हंसवाहनाः
A thousand mounted on lions, and a thousand riding swans,
उष्ट्राः सप्तसहस्राणि सशूराश्च रणोन्मुखाः
Seven thousand camels, all valiant and ready for battle,
द्विलक्षाणि क्षयं जग्मुः कृष्णांशाद्यैः सुरक्षिताः
Two hundred thousand, protected by the Kṛṣṇa faction, met their destruction.
दृष्ट्वा तत्कौतुकं रम्यं जयन्तो युद्धकोविदः
Seeing that wondrous and delightful spectacle, Jayanta, skilled in warfare,
भस्मीभूताश्च ते सर्वे तत्रैव विलयं गताः चक्रुर्जयरवं तत्र तुष्टुवुश्च पुनः पुनः ।। 3.3.29.
All of them were reduced to ashes and perished there; they raised a victorious shout and praised again and again.
तदा तु चीनजा बौद्धाः कृत्वा विंशत्सहस्रकान्
Then the Buddhists from China assembled twenty thousand men,
योगसिंहो गजारूढो धनुर्बाणधरो वली
Yogasiṃha, mounted on an elephant, strong, holding bow and arrows,
मृतास्ते पंचसाहस्रा योगसिंहशरार्दिताः कृत्वा लोहमयं सिंहं योगसिंहमपेषयत्
Five thousand were slain by Yogasiṃha’s arrows; having made a lion of iron, they sent it against Yogasiṃha.
पातेन तस्य सिंहस्य स वीरो मरणं गतः स्वभल्लेन च तं सिंहं हत्वा तत्र जगर्ज वै
By the fall of that lion, the hero met his death; striking that lion with his own mace, he roared there.
तदा तु बौद्धसिंहेन शार्दूलस्तत्र चोदितः
Then, at the urging of the Buddhist lion, a tiger was set forth there.
मातुलौ मृत्युवशगौ दृष्ट्वा स्वर्णवतीसुतः
Seeing his two maternal uncles overcome by death, the son of Svarṇavatī,
शरमादाय वै शीघ्रं नाम्ना संमोहनं शुभम्
Quickly took up an arrow named Saṃmohana, auspicious and enchanting,
बद्ध्वा तान्बौद्धसिंहादीन्नृपान्दशसहस्रकम्
He bound those Buddhist lions and ten thousand kings.
तदा ते हर्षितास्सर्वे प्रपेष्य नगरं ययुः लुण्ठयित्वा बलात्सर्वे नृपदुर्गमुपाययुः
Then all of them, delighted, sent word and went to the city; having plundered by force, they reached the king’s fortress.
बौद्धसिंहस्तदागत्य जयन्तेन विमोचितः 3.3.29.
At that time, the Buddhist lion, having arrived, was released by Jayanta.
दशकोटीः सुवर्णस्य चाह्लादाय तदा धनम्
Ten crores of gold and wealth were then given for joy.
आर्यदेशं न यास्यामः कदाचिद्राष्ट्रहेतवे त्रिलक्षैश्च युतास्ते वै नेत्रपालगृहं गताः
We shall never go to the land of the Aryas for the sake of the kingdom; those three hundred thousand, joined together, have gone to the house of the guardians of the realm.
