महामदस्तु तज्ज्ञात्वा रुद्रध्यानपरायणः
Mahāmada, knowing this, became devoted to meditation on Rudra.
व्याघ्राः सिंहा वराहाश्च वानरा दंशका नराः
Tigers, lions, boars, monkeys, biting men,
तदा स्वर्णवती देवी कामाक्षीध्यानतत्परा
Then Svarṇavatī, the goddess Kāmākṣī, absorbed in meditation,
तया तार्क्ष्यास्समुत्पन्नाः शरभाश्च महाबलाः
By her, Garudas were produced, and also mighty Śarabhas.
हाहाभूते च तत्सैन्ये दिक्षु विद्राविते सति
When cries of terror arose and that army was routed in all directions,
सहुरस्तैर्नटैस्सार्द्धं चाह्लादेनैव चूर्णितः
Sahura was crushed together with those dancers, overwhelmed with delight.
एवं च मुनिशार्दूल चतुर्मास्स्वभवद्रणः इति ते कथितं विप्र चान्यत्किं श्रोतुमिच्छसि ।। 3.3.28.
Thus, O best of sages, the battle lasted for four months; this has been told to you, O brahmin—what else do you wish to hear?
कुत्र स्थाने कथं जाता तत्सर्वं कृपया वद
In what place and how did it occur? Please tell me all of this out of kindness.
वसंतसमये प्राप्ते क्रीडंत्यत्र दिवौकसः
When the spring season arrived, the celestial beings played there.
मंजुघोषा च स्वर्वेश्या शुकस्थाने समागता
Manjughosha, the queen of song, gathered at the abode of Shuka.
गीतनृत्यादिरागांश्च कृत्वा सा कामविह्वला
Having performed songs, dances, and other melodies, she became overwhelmed by desire.
तदा शुकस्तु भगवान्पद्यं स्तुति मयं शुभम्
Then the blessed Shuka composed a beautiful hymn of praise.
सा तु श्रुत्वा शुभं वाक्यं प्रोवाच श्लक्ष्णया गिरा
Hearing those auspicious words, she spoke with gentle speech.
इति श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तथा कृत्वा तया सह
Thus, having heard those words and acted accordingly, together with her—
तयोस्सकाशात्संजज्ञे मुनिर्नाम सुतोऽनयोः
From their union, a son named Muni was born to them.
तस्मै ददौ तदा पत्नीं स्वर्णदेवस्य वै सुताम्
To him, at that time, was given as wife the daughter of Svarṇadeva.
तया रेमे प्रसन्नात्मा तयोर्जाता सुतोत्तमा तपश्चचार सा देवी रूपयौवन शालिनी ।। 3.3.29.
With her, his heart content, he enjoyed; from them was born an excellent son. That goddess, endowed with beauty and youth, practiced austerities.
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवाञ्छंकरो लोकशंकरः
Then the blessed Shankara, the benefactor of the world, was pleased.
मुनिस्तु शंकरं प्राह देवदेव नमोऽस्तु ते
The sage addressed Shankara: 'O god of gods, I bow to you.'
इति श्रुत्वा शिवः प्राह गुरुंडान्ते च भूतले त्रिंशदब्दप्रमाणेन तत्पश्चात्क्षयमेष्यति
Hearing this, Shiva spoke: 'At the end of thirty years on earth, that will come to an end.'
इति श्रुत्वा तु स मुनिर्हिमतुंगनिवासकः
Having heard this, the sage who dwelt on Himatunga—
इति ते कथितं विप्र पुनः शृणु कथां शुभाम्
Thus it has been told to you, O brahmin; now listen again to an auspicious tale.
नेत्रपालस्य नगरं नानाधातुविचित्रितम्
The city of Netrapāla was adorned with various metals.
सप्तलक्षयुतो राजा बौद्धसिंहो महाबलः
The king Bauddhasiṃha, possessing seven hundred thousand, was of great strength.
सप्ताहोरात्रमभवत्सेनायुद्धं भयानकम्
The battle of the armies lasted seven days and nights, terrifying in nature.
जघान शात्रवीं सेनां बौद्धसिंहेन पालिताम्
He struck down the enemy army, which was protected by Bauddhasiṃha.
बौद्धा मायाविनस्सर्वे लोकमान्यप्रपूजकाः 3.3.29.
All the Buddhists were masters of illusion, honored and worshipped by the people.
नेत्रपालाज्ञया सर्वे कृष्णांशाद्याः समागताः
By the command of Netrapāla, all the Kṛṣṇāṃśas and others assembled.
इंदुलश्च करालाश्वे मंडलीको गजे स्थितः
Indula, fierce on a horse, and Maṇḍalīka, mounted on an elephant, were present.
तालनश्च समायातः सिंहिन्युपरि संस्थितः
Tālana also arrived, seated upon a lioness.
