राजन्प्राप्तो महीराजो युद्धार्थी त्वामुपस्थितः दिव्यलिंगं स संपूज्य बलात्काराद्ग्रहीष्यति
O king, the lord of the earth has come, seeking battle, and stands before you; after worshipping the divine liṅga, he will seize it by force.
तस्मात्त्वं स्वबलैः सार्द्धं मया सह महामते
Therefore, together with your own forces and with me, O wise one,
इति श्रुत्वा दैव वशो राजा परिमलो बली
Hearing thus, King Parimala, mighty and under the sway of fate,
शयितान्क्षत्रियाञ्छूरान्हत्वा पंचसहस्रकान्
having slain five thousand valiant Kshatriya warriors lying there,
तदोत्थाय महीराजः कटिमाबध्य संभ्रमात् 3.3.26.
then, rising up in haste, the great king fastened his belt.
युद्ध्यंत्योः सेनयो स्तत्र मलना पुत्रगृद्धिनी
As the two armies fought there, Malana, longing for a son,
देविदेवि महादेवि सर्वदुःखविनाशिनि
O goddess, O great goddess, destroyer of all suffering,
जप्त्वायुतमिमं मंत्रं हुत्वा तर्पणमार्जने
having recited this mantra ten thousand times, and performed oblations and offerings,
मलने महती बाधा क्षयं यास्यति मा शुचः
a great calamity will befall Malana; she will perish—do not grieve.
इत्युक्त्वा शारदा देवी कृष्णांशं प्रति चागमत् क्षयं यास्यति शीघ्रं च तस्मात्त्वं तां समुद्धर
Having spoken thus, the goddess Sharada departed towards the portion of Krishna, saying: 'She will soon perish, therefore you must rescue her.'
इति श्रुत्वा वचो देव्यास्स वीरो विस्मयान्वितः
Hearing the goddess's words, the hero was filled with wonder.
सा तु श्रुत्वा वचो घोरं स्वर्णवत्या समन्विता
But she, having heard those dreadful words, accompanied by Svarnavati,
कृष्णांशस्तु तदा दुःखी देवसिंहमुवाच ह
Krishnamsa, then sorrowful, spoke to Devasimha.
तच्छ्रुत्वा तेन सहितो लक्षणेन समन्वितः
Hearing that, together with him, endowed with auspicious marks,
तालनो भीमसेनांशः सेनापतिरुदारधीः 3.3.26.
Talana, a portion of Bhimasena, noble-minded commander of the army,
कल्पक्ष्रेत्रमुपागम्य योगिनस्ते तदाभवन्
having reached the field of Kalpaksha, those yogis became present there.
कृष्णांशस्तालनो देवो लक्षणो बलवत्तरः
Krishnamsa, Talana, the god Lakshana, all of great strength,
सप्ताहं च तयोर्युद्धं जातं मृत्युविवर्द्धनम्
for seven days, a battle took place between the two, increasing death.
तस्मिन्दिने महाभाग महद्युद्धमवर्तत
On that day, O greatly fortunate one, a great battle occurred.
दृष्ट्वा पराजितं सैन्यं राजा परिमलो बली
Seeing his army defeated, King Parimala, mighty,
यादवश्च गजारूढस्तदा चंद्रावलीपतिः
The Yadava, mounted on an elephant, was then the lord of Candravali.
हरिनागरमारुह्य ब्रह्मानंदो महाबल.
Brahmananda, mighty in strength, ascended the city of Hari.
मर्दनं राजपुत्रं च रणजिद्ग जसंस्थितः
Mardana, the prince, renowned for victory in battle, was present.
रूपणो वै सरदनं हयारूढो जगाम ह नृहरं राजपुत्रं च शंखांशश्च जगाम ह
Rupana, indeed, mounted on a horse, went to Saradana; and Naraharin, the prince, and Sankhamsa also went.
तेषु संग्राममेतेषु चामुण्डोऽयुतसैन्यपः 3.3.26.
In that battle among them, Camunda, with a force of ten thousand, was present.
ददर्श नगरीं रम्यां चतुर्वर्णसमन्विताम्
He beheld the beautiful city, endowed with the four social orders.
महीपतिस्तु वै धूर्तो दुर्गद्वारि समागतः
The king, indeed cunning, arrived at the fortress gate.
मलना भ्रातरं दृष्ट्वा वचनं प्राह दुःखिता
Malanā, seeing her brother, spoke these words, distressed.
न प्राप्तं जल संस्थाने सुपुण्ये कीर्तिसागरे
Water was not obtained at the sacred and renowned reservoir.
विनाह्लादं च कृष्णांशं महद्दुःखमुपागतम् कान्यकुब्जात्समायातः कृष्णांशेन प्रयोजितः
Without delight and without Krishna's portion, great sorrow has come; one has arrived from Kanyakubja, sent by Krishna's portion.
