राज्यं पंचशतं वर्षं तेन म्लेच्छेन सत्कृतम्
For five hundred years, the kingdom was honored by that foreigner.
चतुश्शतं पुनर्ज्ञेयं सिंहस्तत्तनयोऽभवत्
Again, it is to be known that for four hundred years, Simha's son ruled.
इव्रतस्य सुतो ज्ञेयः पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं पदम्
The son of Ivrata is to be known, who attained a position equal to his father.
राज्यं कृतं तु तस्माच्च रऊ नाम सुतः स्मृतः
From him, the kingdom was established, and a son named Rau is remembered.
तस्माच्च जूज उत्पन्नः पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं पदम् राज्यं चकार नृपतिर्बहुशत्रून्विहिंसयन्
From him, Juja was born, who attained a position equal to his father; the king ruled, subduing many enemies.
ताहरस्तस्य तनयः पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं पदम्
Taharas was his son, who attained a position equal to his father.
एवं तेषां स्मृता वंशा नाममात्रेण कीर्तिताः 3.1.5.
Thus, their lineages have been recalled and mentioned merely by name.
तेषां वृद्धिः कलौ चासीत्संक्षेपेण प्रकीर्तिता
Their increase in the Kali age has been briefly described.
अन्यखंडे गता सैव म्लेच्छा ह्यानंदिनोऽभवन्
That same lineage went to another region and the foreigners became joyless.
व्यास उवाच तच्छ्रुत्वा मुनयस्सर्वे विशालायां निवासिनः
Vyasa said: Upon hearing this, all the sages dwelling in Vishala
ध्यानं चक्रुर्मुदा युक्ता द्विशतं परिवत्सरान्
Engaged in meditation with joy, they practiced for two hundred years.
संध्यातर्पणदेवार्चाः कृत्वा ध्यात्वा जनार्द्दनम्
Having performed the rituals of twilight offerings and worship of the gods, they meditated upon Janardana.
व्यासशिष्य महाभाग चिरं जीव महामते
O fortunate disciple of Vyasa, O wise one, may you live long.
आवन्ते शंखनामाऽसौ सांप्रतं वर्तते नृपः

म्लेच्छदेशे शकपतिरथ राज्यं करोति वै
In the land of foreigners, the lord of the Shakas now rules.
द्विसहस्रे कलौ प्राप्ते म्लेच्छवंशविवर्द्धिता
When the two-thousandth year of Kali arrives, the lineage of foreigners will flourish.
ब्रह्मावर्तमृते तत्र सरस्वत्यास्तटं शुभम् 3.1.5.
Except for Brahmavarta, there is the auspicious bank of the Sarasvati.
देवार्चनं वेदभाषा नष्टा प्राप्ते कलौ युगे

पानीयं च स्मृतं पानी बुभुक्षा भूख उच्यते
Water is called 'paniyam', drinking water is 'pani', hunger is called 'bhuksha', and thirst is 'bhukha'.
इष्टिशुद्धरवः प्रोक्त इस्तिनी मसपावनी आहुतिर्वै आजु इति ददाति च दधाति च
The pure sound for sacrifice is called 'ishti', 'istinī' is the purifier of meat; 'ahuti' is called 'aju', and both 'dadati' and 'dadhati' are used.
पितृपैतरभ्राता च बादरः पतिरेव च
Father, paternal ancestor, brother, 'badara', and husband are so called.
जानुस्थाने जैनुशब्दः सप्तसिंधुस्तथैव च
