नष्टेषु सागरेष्वेवमसमञ्जस आत्मजः
When the Sāgaras perished, Asamañjasa, his son, remained.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं दिलीपस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्
Dilīpa, his son, ruled for a hundred years less.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं श्रुतसेनस्ततोऽभवत्
Śrutasena succeeded him, ruling for a hundred years less.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यमम्बरीषस्ततोऽभवत्
Ambarīṣa succeeded him, ruling for a hundred years less.
सत्यपादः समाप्तोऽयं तृतीयो भारतेंतरे
Satyapāda is completed here; this is the third cycle within Bhārata.
चतुर्थे चरणे तस्य चाष्टादश सहस्रकम्
In the fourth cycle, his reign lasted eighteen thousand years.
एकोनत्रिंशद्वर्षाणि राज्यं तत्त्रिंशतानि च
He ruled for twenty-nine years, and then for thirty more.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यमयुताश्वस्ततोऽभवत्
The kingdom was established less a hundred, and then ten thousand horses followed.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं सर्वकामो नृपस्ततः
The kingdom was established less a hundred, and thereafter the king fulfilled all desires.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं सुदासस्तनयोऽभवत् 3.1.1.
The kingdom was established less a hundred, and Sudāsa's son then became king.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं हरिवर्मा ततोऽभवत्
The kingdom was established less a hundred, and then Harivarman became king.
गुरुशापात्तु सौदासो राज्याङ्गं गुरवेऽर्पयत्
Because of the guru's curse, Saudāsa gave up the kingdom to the guru.
हरिवर्मा शमकजो वैश्यवत्साधुपूजकः
Harivarman, born of Śamaka, honored the virtuous like a Vaiśya.
हरिवर्माऽकरोद्राज्यं तस्माद्दशरथोऽभवत्
Harivarman ruled the kingdom, and from him Daśaratha was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं भृपो विश्वासहस्ततः
He ruled the kingdom like his father, and then Viśvāsaha, son of Bhṛpa, followed.
तदधर्मप्रतापेन ह्यनावृष्टिस्तदाऽभवत्
Because of the force of unrighteousness, there was a drought at that time.
यज्ञं कृत्वा वशिष्ठस्तु राज्ञीवचनतत्परः
Having performed a sacrifice, Vasiṣṭha was devoted to the queen's words.
इन्द्रसाहाय्यमगमद्राज्यं त्रिंशत्सहस्रकम्
With Indra's assistance, the kingdom lasted thirty thousand years.
खट्टांगाद्दीर्घबाहुश्च राज्यं विंशत्स हस्रकम्
From Khaṭṭāṅga, Dīrghabāhu ruled the kingdom for twenty thousand years.
वैष्णवा दाशरथ्यं तास्त्रयो विख्यातसद्बलाः 3.1.1.
Those three, famed for their strength, were Vaiṣṇavas and descendants of Daśaratha.
सुदर्शनो महाप्राज्ञः काशीराजसुतां नृपः वर्षपञ्चसहस्राणि राज्यं चक्रे स भूपतिः
Sudarśana, the wise king, married the daughter of the king of Kāśī; he ruled the kingdom for five thousand years.
स्वप्नमध्ये वचः प्रोक्तं महाकाल्या नृपाय वै
In the midst of a dream, Mahākālī spoke words to the king.
हिमालयं गिरिं प्राप्य वासं कुरु महामते
Having reached the Himalayan mountain, dwell there, O wise one.
रत्नाकरः पश्चिमोऽब्धिस्तस्य द्वीपाः क्षयं गताः
The western ocean is the jewel-mine; its islands have perished.
वाडवोऽब्धिर्दक्षिणे च तस्य द्वीपाः क्षयं गताः
In the south, the submarine fire consumed the ocean, and its islands perished.
ये द्वीपास्तु सुविख्यातास्तेऽपि सर्वे लयं गताः
All those islands, once well-known, have also been destroyed.
सजीवः प्रलयं यायात्तस्मात्त्वं जीवितो भव
Even the living went to destruction; therefore, you should strive to survive.
प्राप्तवान्मुख्यभूपैश्च मुख्यवैश्यैर्द्विजैः सह
He arrived together with the foremost kings, the chief merchants, and the twice-born.
शर्करा च महीं प्राप्तास्ततो जीवाः क्षयं गताः 3.1.1.
Gravel covered the earth, and then the living beings perished.
शांतो भूत्वा पुनर्वायुर्जलं सर्वमशोषयत्
When the wind became calm again, it dried up all the waters.
