स्वंस्वं गेहं ययुस्सर्वे भूपाश्चाह्लादमानिताः शृण्वतां सर्वपापघ्नं कथयिष्यामि वै पुनः ।। 3.3.23.
All the kings, honored and delighted, returned each to his own house. Now, as you listen, I shall again recount that which destroys all sin.
महीपतिस्सदा दुःखी देहलीं प्रति चागमत्
The king was always sorrowful and came to the threshold.
वृत्तांतं च नृपस्याग्रे कथयित्वा स तारकः
After narrating the events before the king, that Tāraka—
एतस्मिन्नंतरे मंत्री चंद्रभट्ट उदारधीः
Meanwhile, the wise minister Candrabhaṭṭa—
मया चाराधिता देवी वैष्णवी विश्वकारिणी
The goddess Viṣṇu's power, the all-creating one, was worshipped by me.
तया दत्तं शुभं ज्ञानं कुमतिध्वंसकारकम् चरित्रं वर्णयामास तस्य कल्मषनाशनम्
She granted auspicious knowledge that destroys wrong understanding; he described the conduct that removes his sin.
इत्युक्त्वा स च शुद्धात्मा ग्रंथं भाषामयं शुभम्
Having said this, that pure-minded one composed a noble work in the vernacular.
तच्छ्रुत्वा भूमिराजस्तु विस्मितश्चाभवत्क्ष णात् ।। महीपतिस्तदा प्राह दिव्याश्वबलदर्पितः
Hearing this, the king of the earth was instantly astonished; then the king, proud with the strength of divine horses, spoke.
चत्वारो वाजिनो दिव्या जलस्थलखगाश्च ते
There are four divine horses, able to move on water, land, and in the air.
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिः श्रुतवाक्यविशारदम्
Hearing thus, the king addressed the one skilled in the words he had heard.
महावतीं समागत्य स दूतो भूपतिं प्रति 3.3.2४.
Having arrived at Mahavati, that messenger approached the king.
वाजिनस्ते हि चत्वारो दिव्यरूपाः शुभ प्रभाः
Your four horses are of divine form, radiant with auspicious brilliance.
तयाहूतान्हयान्भूप देहि मे विस्मयं त्यज
Summon those horses, O king; grant me wonder, abandon hesitation.
इति श्रुत्वा वचो घोरं स भूपो भयकातरः हयान्स्वान्स्वान्मुदा देहि मदीयं वचनं कुरु
Hearing those dreadful words, the king, fearful and anxious, joyfully gave his horses, saying, 'Fulfill my command.'
इति श्रुत्वा स आह्लादो ध्यात्वा सर्वमयीं शिवाम्
Hearing this, he rejoiced, meditating upon the all-pervading auspiciousness.
यत्र नः संस्थिताः प्राणास्तत्र ते वा जिनः स्थिताः
Where our lives are established, there too, O Jina, yours reside.
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य राजा परिमलो बली
Hearing those words, the powerful king Parimala responded.
शपथं कृतवान्घोरं शृण्वतां बलशालिनाम्
He made a terrible oath in the presence of the mighty warriors.
शय्या स्वमातृसदृशी ब्रह्महत्योपमा सभा
His bed, resembling his mother, was like the assembly of a Brahmin-slayer.
इति श्रुत्वा तु शपथं देवकी शोकतत्परा
Hearing that oath, Devaki, absorbed in sorrow, was distressed.
पंचविंशाब्दके प्राप्ते कृष्णांशे योगतत्परे 3.3.2४.
When the twenty-fifth year arrived, Krishna's portion was devoted to yoga.
निर्ययुः कान्यकुब्जं ते जयचंद्रेण पालितम्
They departed for Kanyakubja, governed by Jayachandra.
इन्दुलः प्रययौ शीघ्रमयुताश्वबलैस्सह कृष्णांशो बिंदुलारूढो देवकीमनुसंययौ
Indula swiftly went forth with ten thousand horsemen; Krishna's portion, mounted on Bindula, followed Devaki.
त्यक्त्वा ते भूपतेर्ग्रामं सर्वसंपत्समन्वितम्
They left the king's village, endowed with all prosperity.
नत्वा तं भूपतिं प्रेम्णा गदित्वा सर्वकारणम्
Having bowed to the king with affection, they spoke all the reasons.
जयचंद्रस्तु भूपालो देवसिंहेन वर्णितः
Jayachandra, the king, was described by Devasimha.
कुंठितो देवसिंहस्तु गत्वा कृष्णांशमुत्तमम्
Devasimha, hindered, went to the excellent Krishna's portion.
त्वरितं बिंदुलारूढो हयपंचशतावृतः
Swiftly, mounted on Bindula, surrounded by five hundred horses.
दृष्ट्वा तं लक्षणो वीरो हस्तिनः पृष्ठमास्थितः
Seeing him, the heroic Lakṣaṇa, mounted on the back of the elephant,
निष्फलत्वं गतो बाणो विष्णुमंत्रेण प्रेरितः
the arrow, sent forth with a mantra of Viṣṇu, became fruitless.
