दृष्ट्वा तेषां बलं घोरमभिनन्दनभूमिपः कथितं कारणं राज्ञा यथा जातः पराजयः ।। 3.3.23.
Seeing their dreadful army, King Abhinandana explained to the king the reason for their defeat, as it had occurred.
इति श्रुत्वा तु कुतुकस्तमाश्वास्य महीपतिम् तत्सैन्यं मोहयामास शिलाभूतमचेतनम्
Hearing this, Kutuka comforted the king and bewildered that army, making it insensible like stone.
तदा केसरिणी नाट्या अष्टौ बद्ध्वा महाबलान्
Then Kesariṇī, through her dance, bound eight mighty warriors.
बाह्लीकश्च प्रसन्नात्मा बद्ध्वा तान्निगडैर्दृढैः
And Bāhlīka, with a tranquil mind, bound them with strong shackles.
देव्याश्च वरदानेन देवसिंहो भयातुरः
By the boon of the goddess, Devasiṃha, overcome by fear, was spared.
ज्ञात्वा स्वर्णवती देवी सर्वविद्याविशारदा
Knowing this, Svarṇavatī, the goddess skilled in all knowledge, understood.
दृष्ट्वा तु दंपती तत्र मकरंदं गृहे स्थितौ
There, seeing the couple, Makaranda and his wife, residing in the house—
कृष्णांशस्तु तदा दुःखी मकरन्दं वचोऽब्रवीत्
Then Kṛṣṇāṃśa, distressed, spoke to Makaranda.
कुलक्षये महत्पापं सुप्रोक्तं पूर्व सूरिभिः
The destruction of a family is a great sin, well declared by the wise of old.
इति श्रुत्वा तु तच्छयालः शूरायुतसमन्वितः कृष्णांशेन हयारूढो बाह्लीकं त्वरितो ययौ
Hearing this, his brother-in-law, accompanied by a host of heroes, quickly mounted his horse with Kṛṣṇāṃśa and went to Bāhlīka.
तदा स्वर्णवती देवी पुष्पवत्या समन्विता 3.3.23.
At that time, Svarṇavatī, the goddess, was accompanied by Puṣpavatī.
स छित्त्वा शांबरीं मायां बोधयित्वा स्वसैनिकान्
He cut through the magic of Śāṃbarī, awakened his own soldiers,
दृष्ट्वा ताञ्छत्रुसंयुक्तान्कुतुकस्तु तया सह
Seeing those joined with the enemy, Kutuka, together with her, approached.
छित्त्वा सा सकलां मायां बद्ध्वा तौ दैत्यसन्निभौ
Having destroyed all the magic, she bound those two who resembled demons.
न दाहो दाहमापन्नो न भस्मी भस्मवान्खलु
He was not burned by fire, nor did he become ashes.
तदा पुष्पवती देवी हत्वा केसरिणी रुषा
Then the goddess Puṣpavatī, enraged, killed the lioness.
कुतुकं च तथाभूतं हत्वा स्वर्णवती स्वयम्
Having slain Kutuka, she herself became golden in form.
पुनरागम्य सा देवी तया सार्द्धं शुभानना
That goddess, with a beautiful face, returned again together with her.
ते सर्वे विस्मिताश्चासञ्ज्ञात्वा देव्या विमोहिताः
All of them, bewildered by the goddess, became astonished and lost awareness.
पुनश्चासीत्तयोर्युद्धं सेनयोरुभयोर्मृधे
Again there was battle between the two armies in the field.
परानंदस्तथा देवं तारकं चोपनंदनः 3.3.23.
Parānanda, and likewise the god Upanandana, and Tāraka joined the fight.
प्रनन्दो वीरसेनं च ब्रह्मानन्दं स भूपतिः अहोरात्रमभूद्युद्धं तेषां च तुमुलं क्रमात्
Prananda fought with Vīrasena, and the king with Brahmānanda; their tumultuous battle lasted day and night in succession.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे रात्रौ चित्ररेखा समागता
Meanwhile, at night, Citrarēkhā arrived.
चित्रगुप्तं तदा ध्यात्वा चित्रमायामचीकरत्
Meditating on Citragupta, she performed a wondrous illusion.
तान् दृष्ट्वा विस्मिताः सर्वे भयभीताश्च दुद्रुवुः
Seeing them, all were astonished and, seized by fear, fled.
पंचयोजनमागत्य ततो वासमकारयन्
Having gone five yojanas, they made their dwelling there.
हा कृष्णांश महाबाहो शरणागतवत्सल
O Kṛṣṇāṃśa, mighty-armed, protector of those who seek refuge!
तया विमोहिता वीरा वयं ते शरणं गताः
We heroes, bewildered by her, have come to your refuge.
तदा कोलाहलश्चासीद्रुदतां बलशालिनाम्
Then there was an uproar among the mighty warriors, who began to weep.
आह्लादस्तुऽतथा श्रुत्वा वज्रपाताहतः स्वयम्
Hearing thus, Āhlāda himself was struck as if by a thunderbolt.
