दर्शनं देहि मे शीघ्रं नो चेत्प्राणांस्त्यजाम्यहम् 3.3.23.

कृत्वा लज्जां पुनः प्राह मां च पुत्रं गृहाण भोः

पतित्वा तच्चरणयो रुरोदोच्चैश्च दंपती
Falling at their feet, the couple wept aloud.
इंदुलेनैव लिखितं गृहीत्वा पत्रमुत्तमम्

सूर्यवर्मा गतो गेहं मकरंदेन मानितः
Sūryavarman went home, honored by Makaranda.
ययौ मनोरथारूढो यत्राह्लादः शुचान्वितः
Mounted upon his cherished wish, he went to the place where joy mingled with sorrow.
देवसिंहं च मां विद्धि तव पुत्रान्वेषणे रतम्
Know that Devasimha and I are devoted to seeking your son.
इति श्रुत्वा स आह्लादश्चा ह्लादं परमाप्तवान्
Hearing this, Āhlāda attained supreme delight.
महीपतिं समाहूय वचनं प्राह नम्रधीः
Summoning the king, the humble-minded one spoke these words.
स होवाच श्रुतं वीर कृष्णांशेन यथा हतः
He said: 'O hero, I have heard how Kṛṣṇāṃśa was slain.'
अह्लादः क्रोधताम्राक्षः केशाना कृष्य तं मुदा 3.3.23.
Āhlāda, his eyes reddened with anger, seized him by the hair with joy.
श्रुत्वा परिमलो राजा सपत्नीकस्समागतः
Hearing this, King Parimala arrived together with his queen.
अरे धूर्त महापापिन्मद्बंधुर्घातितस्त्वया
'O wicked one, great sinner, you have killed my kinsman!'
तदा महीपतिर्दुःखी निःश्वासो मौनमास्थितः
Then the king, distressed, sighed and remained silent.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे वीरो बलखानिः समागतः
At that moment, the hero Balakhāni arrived.
स चकार विवाहार्थमुद्योगं भ्रातृजस्य वै
He made preparations for the marriage of his brother's son.
तारकश्च तमायातस्सार्द्धं शूरसहस्रकैः
Tāraka also came there, accompanied by a thousand valiant warriors.
तालनश्च ततः प्राप्तो लक्षसैन्यसम न्वितः
Then Tālana arrived, attended by an army equal to a hundred thousand.
ब्रह्मानंदः स्वयं प्राप्तस्त्रिलक्षबलसंयुतः
He attained the bliss of Brahman himself, endowed with the strength of three hundred thousand.
हा बंधो क्व गतस्त्वं वै मां त्यक्त्वा पुरुषाधमम्
Alas, my friend! Where have you gone, having abandoned me, the lowest of men?
बलखानिस्तु बलवाँल्लक्षसैन्यसमन्वितः 3.3.23.
Balakhani, powerful and accompanied by an army of a hundred thousand, was there.
अहोरात्रप्रमाणेन मासैकः पथि वै गतः व्यूहः स्वकीयसैन्यानां रचितो बलखानिना
In the span of a day and night, he traveled a month's journey on the road; Balakhani arranged the formation of his own army.
एको रथः स्थितो युद्धे तत्पश्चात्संस्थिता गजाः
One chariot stood in battle, and behind it were stationed the elephants.
तेषां पश्चात्क्रमाज्ज्ञेया पत्तयो दश संस्थिताः
Behind them, in order, were stationed ten companies of infantry.
एको रथो गजास्सर्वे शतार्द्धं तु हयास्तु ये
There was one chariot, all the elephants, and a hundred and fifty horses.
पञ्चायुतानि सेनायां सर्वे पदचराः स्मृताः
In the army, all the foot soldiers were counted as fifty thousand.
गजास्तु दशसाहस्रा मदमत्ताः पृथग्ययुः
The elephants, ten thousand in number, intoxicated with rut, advanced separately.
अभिनन्दनभूपस्य म्लेच्छाः पैशाचधर्मिणः
The mlecchas, followers of the Pisacha way, belonged to King Abhinandana.
एकलक्षः पदचरा भुशुण्डीपरिघायुधाः गजस्थास्तत्र संप्राप्ता यत्राह्लादमहा चमूः
One hundred thousand foot soldiers, armed with clubs and maces, mounted on elephants, arrived there where the great army of Ahlada was.
तयोश्चासीन्महद्युद्धं तुमुलं रोमहर्षणम्
Between the two, there was a great and tumultuous battle, causing one's hair to stand on end.
