फाल्गुने मासि संप्राप्ते त्रयस्ते योगिरूपिणः 3.3.23.
When the month of Phālguna arrived, those three assumed the forms of yogis.
मृदंगांकस्तदा देवो मकरंदो विपंचिमान्
At that time, the god played the mṛdaṅga, and Makaranda played the vīṇā.
मोहयित्वा च नगरं तथा गजपतिं नृपम्
Having bewildered the city and likewise the king, lord of elephants,
वांछितं ब्रूहि मे योगिन्स श्रुत्वा प्राह नम्रधीः
Speak your desire to me, O ascetic; hearing this, he replied with humility.
कृत्वा कार्यमहं शीघ्रं पुनर्दास्यमि ते सुतम्
Having accomplished the task swiftly, I will return your son to you.
इति श्रुत्वा गजपतिर्दत्त्वा तेभ्यः स्वकं सुतम्
Upon hearing this, the lord of elephants gave his own son to them.
पक्षमात्रेण बाह्लीकं नगरं प्रययुर्मुदा
In the span of a fortnight, they joyfully reached the city of Bahlika.
आययुर्लास्यतत्त्वज्ञा नृपमोहनतत्पराः
Those skilled in the essence of dance, intent on enchanting the king, arrived.
मोहितास्तैश्च ते सर्वे गीतनृत्यविशारदैः
All were captivated by them, experts in song and dance.
तानादाय पुनर्भूपः स्वगेहमभिनंदनः
Taking them, the king returned to his own house, rejoicing.
मकरंदस्तदा वीणां मृदंगं भीष्मजो बली 3.3.23.
Then Makaranda, powerful son of Bhishma, took up the vina and the drum.
गृहीत्वा मोदयामासुर्नारीवृन्दा महोत्तमम्
Having taken them, the great assembly of women rejoiced.
मायां निर्वापयामास निष्फला साऽभवत्क्षणात्
He dispelled the illusion; it became fruitless in an instant.
वांछितं ब्रूहि मे वीर कृष्णांशश्चाह तां वधूम्
Speak your desire to me, O hero; Krishna's portion said this to the bride.
इति श्रुत्वा चित्ररेखा शोकव्याकुलचेतना
Hearing this, Citrarekha, her mind distressed by sorrow,
इंद्राद्या देवतास्सर्वे मया निर्मितया यया
All the deities, beginning with Indra, were created by me, by whom—
देवो नारायणो वापि धर्मो वापि शिवः स्वयम्
Whether the god Narayana, or Dharma, or Shiva himself—
उदयो नाम मे राज्ञि देवसिंहोऽयमुत्तमः
My name is Udaya, O queen; this is Devasingha, the excellent one.
इन्दुलस्य वियोगेन वयं योगित्वमागताः
By the separation from Indula, we have attained yogic powers.
शुकं देहि महामाये इंदुलं देहि वा यदि
Give Shuka, O great enchantress, or give Indula, if you will.
दर्शनं देहि मे शीघ्रं नो चेत्प्राणांस्त्यजाम्यहम् 3.3.23.
Grant me your audience quickly, otherwise I will give up my life.
कृत्वा लज्जां पुनः प्राह मां च पुत्रं गृहाण भोः
Having set aside her shame, she spoke again: 'Take me and my son, O lord.'
पतित्वा तच्चरणयो रुरोदोच्चैश्च दंपती
Falling at their feet, the couple wept aloud.
इंदुलेनैव लिखितं गृहीत्वा पत्रमुत्तमम्
Taking the excellent letter written by Indu, he received it.
सूर्यवर्मा गतो गेहं मकरंदेन मानितः
Sūryavarman went home, honored by Makaranda.
ययौ मनोरथारूढो यत्राह्लादः शुचान्वितः
Mounted upon his cherished wish, he went to the place where joy mingled with sorrow.
देवसिंहं च मां विद्धि तव पुत्रान्वेषणे रतम्
Know that Devasimha and I are devoted to seeking your son.
इति श्रुत्वा स आह्लादश्चा ह्लादं परमाप्तवान्
Hearing this, Āhlāda attained supreme delight.
महीपतिं समाहूय वचनं प्राह नम्रधीः
Summoning the king, the humble-minded one spoke these words.
स होवाच श्रुतं वीर कृष्णांशेन यथा हतः
He said: 'O hero, I have heard how Kṛṣṇāṃśa was slain.'
