हृत्वा स्वयंवरे रम्ये परमानन्दमाययौ 3.3.23.
She, in the beautiful svayamvara, seized him and departed, filled with supreme joy.
कृष्णांशस्तु तदा बुद्ध्वा न ददर्श स्वकं शिशुम्
Krishnamsa, realizing this, did not see his own child.
कालज्ञो देवसिंहोऽपि मोहितश्चित्रमायया
Even Devasimha, who knew the time, was bewildered by the wondrous illusion.
विस्मितं देवसिंहं च दृष्ट्वा कृष्णांशको बली
Seeing Devasimha astonished, the powerful Krishnamsaka
श्रुत्वा तु रोदनं तस्य खलस्तत्र महीपतिः रुदित्वा तत्र वै गाढं वचनं प्राह नम्रधीः
Hearing his weeping, the wicked king there, after crying intensely, spoke humbly.
उदयो नाम ते भ्राता मोहयित्वा मदेन तौ
Your brother named Udaya, having deluded the two with intoxication,
प्रत्यक्षं च मया दृष्टं तेन वीरेण वै कृतम्
I myself witnessed directly what that hero accomplished.
देवसिंहस्ततो बुद्ध्या न ज्ञातं तेन यत्कृतम्
Devasimha, then, with discernment, did not understand what had been done by him.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे प्राप्तौ तौ वीरौ रोदने रतौ
Meanwhile, those two heroes arrived, engaged in weeping.
आह्लादो निश्चयं ज्ञात्वा भाषितं च महीपतेः
Ahlada, having understood with certainty and heard the king's words,
तस्य माता तथा पत्नी भगिनी प्रेमदुःखिताः न बोधितस्तदा वीरश्चित्रमायाविमोहितः ।। 3.3.23.
His mother, wife, and sister, afflicted by love and sorrow, were not made aware, for the hero was bewildered by wondrous illusion.
तदा पुष्पवती देवी स्वपतिं भ्रातृपीडितम्
Then Queen Pushpavati, seeing her husband tormented by his brother,
विनापराधं कृष्णांशो महानिंदामवाप्तवान्
Without fault, Krishnamsa suffered great reproach.
वधस्त्यागः समो ज्ञेयो योग्यं बुद्ध्या विचारय
Death and abandonment are to be regarded as equal; consider what is proper with discernment.
चांडालांश्च समाहूय बद्ध्वा तं पुत्रघातिनम्
He summoned the outcastes and bound that slayer of his own son.
अस्य नेत्रे समुत्पाट्य मां दर्शयत संयुताः
Pluck out his eyes and bring them to me together, all of you.
देवसिंहस्ततो गत्वा दत्त्वा तेभ्यो महद्धनम्
Then Devasimha went and gave them a great sum of wealth.
बलखानेस्तु या पत्नी गजमुक्ता पतिव्रता
But the wife of Balakhana, Gajamukta, was devoted to her husband.
चांडालास्ते तु संगत्य मृगनेत्रे च तं ददुः धिक्त्वां पापं दुराचारं त्वया मे हिंसितः सखा
Those outcastes gathered and gave him to Mriganetra, saying, 'Shame on you, sinner, wicked one! My friend has been harmed by you.'
जीवितस्त्वत्सुतो भूमौ तदन्वेषणहेतवे इत्युक्त्वा प्रययौ वीरः शिरीषाख्यपुरं शुभम्
Your son is alive on the earth; go in search of him—so saying, the hero departed for the auspicious city called Shirishā.
गजमुक्तामनुज्ञाप्य दंपती प्राप्य निर्भयः 3.3.23.
Having taken leave of Gajamukta, the couple proceeded without fear.
मकरंदस्तु बलवान्ज्ञात्वा तत्सर्वकारणम्
Then Makaranda, powerful, having learned the entire cause,
धर्ममाराधयामास यज्ञैर्नानाविधैः स्तवैः
Worshipped dharma with various sacrifices and hymns.
अभिनंदनभूपस्य सुता चित्रप्रपूजिनी
The daughter of King Abhinandana was Citraprapūjinī.
केसरिण्या गुरुर्ज्ञेयः कुतुको योगुरूपधृक्
Of Kesariṇī, the teacher is to be known as Kutuka, who assumed the form of a yogin.
शत्रुभिर्दुर्गमा भूमिः शत्रुपाषाणकारिणी
The land was difficult to approach because of enemies, and made perilous by hostile stones.
चित्ररेखाभूपसुता जयंतस्तु तया हृतः इन्दुलश्च स्थितो दुःखी चित्रमायाविमोहितः
Jayanta was seized by Citralekhā, the king’s daughter; Indula remained there, sorrowful, bewildered by her wondrous magic.
कृष्णांशश्च भवान्देवः सहितः सूर्यवर्मणा चित्ररेखां समागत्य नृत्यादींस्तैः समं कुरु
You, O god, a portion of Krishna, together with Sūryavarman, approach Citralekhā and perform dances and such with them.
मोहयित्वा च तां देवीं पठित्वा तन्मतं शुभम्
And having enchanted that goddess, recite her auspicious doctrine.
इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे देवस्स राजा विस्मयान्वितः
Having spoken thus, the god vanished, and the king was filled with wonder.
