ब्रह्मचर्यं न तत्याज स्वर्गलोकेऽपि वै ह्यहम् अनिरुद्धः स्वयं ब्रह्म मम पाणिं गृहीतवान् ।। 3.3.22.
Even in heaven, I did not abandon celibacy; Aniruddha himself, who is Brahman, took my hand.
कलिना प्रार्थितो देवो मम स्वामी स्वहेतवे
The Lord, my master, was invoked by Kali for my sake.
स्वप्रसादस्य महिमा दर्शितस्तेन तत्र वै
There, indeed, the greatness of his own favor was displayed by him.
अहं तस्याज्ञया स्वामिञ्जम्बुकस्य सुताभवम्
By his command, O lord, I became the daughter of Jambuka.
कृतं ममैव मरणं त्वद्भ्रात्रा बलखानिना
My death was caused by your brother, Balakhanin.
तेन दोषेण त्वद्भ्राता यातनां तीव्रमागतः इत्युक्त्वा मौनमास्थाय रेमे पत्या समं मुदा
Because of that fault, your brother underwent severe torment; having said this, she became silent and rejoiced together with her husband.
होलिकासमये प्राप्ते मलना स्नेहदुःखिता रुरोद निशि दुःखेन स्वसुतास्नेहकातरा
When the time of Holika arrived, Malana, distressed by affection and sorrow, wept at night in her grief, overwhelmed by love for her own daughter.
तदोदयो महावीरो ज्ञात्वा रोदन कारणम् एकाकी प्रययौ वीरो यत्र चंद्रावलीगृहम्
Then the great hero, knowing the reason for her weeping, set out alone, that valiant one, to the house of Candravali.
महीपतिस्तु तच्छत्रुर्ज्ञात्वा कारणमुत्तमम् बलीठाठमिति ख्यातं ग्रामं यादवपालितम्
The king, who was his enemy, having learned the true reason, heard of the village called Balithatha, protected by the Yadavas.
वीरसेनो नृपस्तत्र त्रिलक्षबलसंयुतः
There, King Virasena was present, accompanied by an army of three hundred thousand.
कामसेनः प्रसेनश्च महासेनस्तथैव च मधुपश्च क्रमाज्जाता यादवांशाश्च यादवाः ।। 3.3.22.
Kamasena, Prasena, likewise Mahasena, and Madhupa were born in succession, and the Yadavas were the descendants of the Yadava lineage.
तत्र गत्वा च कृष्णांशस्सभायां नरकेसरी
There, Narakesari, a portion of Krishna, entered the assembly.
मलनालिखितं पत्रं दत्त्वा राज्ञे महामनाः
With a noble mind, he gave to the king the letter written by Malana.
व्यंजनानि विचित्राणि भुक्त्वा यादवसंयुतः
Having enjoyed various wonderful dishes, together with the Yadavas,
प्रेमोत्सुका च भगिनी कृष्णांशं प्राह दुःखिता
His sister, eager with love, spoke to Krishna's portion, though afflicted with sorrow.
विंशदब्दस्ततो जातो विस्मृता पितृमातृभिः
Then, at the age of twenty, he was forgotten by his father and mother.
अद्य मे सफलं जन्म जीवितं सफलं च मे
Today my birth is fulfilled, and my life is also fulfilled.
प्रसन्नात्मोदयस्तत्र भगिनीं प्राह नम्रधीः
With a cheerful heart, he humbly spoke to his sister.
तस्य दुःखेन भूपालो भयभीतो दिनेदिने
Because of her sorrow, the king, day by day, became fearful and anxious.
महीराजस्तु बलवान्रुरोध नगरीं मम
But the powerful king besieged my city.
पुनश्च सिंहलद्वीपे जयंतार्थे वयं गताः 3.3.22.
Again, we went to the island of Siṃhala for the sake of victory.
अतस्त्वां प्रति सुप्रीता वयं भगिनिकिंकराः
Therefore, being very pleased with you, we became attendants to our sister.
गेहं निवासयामास स्वकीयं प्रेमविह्वला
Overwhelmed with love, she settled us in her own house.
सभायां वीरसेनस्य राज्ञा तेनैव सत्कृतः
In the assembly of King Vīrasena, he was honored by that very king.
निष्कासिताश्च ते सर्वे राज्ञाह्लादादयः खलाः । चौरितो नृपतेः कोशो हीनजात्यैर्महाबलैः
All those wicked men, the king's flatterers, were expelled; the royal treasury was plundered by those of low birth but great strength.
तदा तु कुंठिताः सर्वे शिरीषाख्यपुरेऽवसन्
Then, all of them, being subdued, dwelled in the city called Śirīṣa.
चंद्रावल्याश्च वै दोलां गृहीत्वा स गमिष्यति
And he will depart, taking the swing of Candrāvalī.
इति श्रुत्वा वीरसेनो ज्ञात्वा तत्सत्यकारणम्
Hearing this, Vīrasena, realizing the true reason,
वचनं प्राह भोः पुत्र बंधनं कुरु तस्य वै
spoke these words: 'O son, bind him indeed.'
भोजनाय ददौ तस्यै ज्ञात्वा चन्द्रावली तदा
Then Candrāvalī, knowing this, gave her food.
