स्वभल्लं देवसिंहश्च तमंके च समाहनत्
Devasiṃha struck his own arrow against Tama on his lap.
शिलावाजिप्रभावेण कश्मलं न जगाम ह
By the power of the stone horse, he did not fall into confusion.
शनिभल्लेन ते सर्वे बभूवुर्मूर्छिता रणे
All of them were rendered unconscious in battle by Shani's arrow.
मकरंदस्तु बलवान्बद्ध्वा तान्युद्धदुर्मदान्
The mighty Makaranda, binding those arrogant in battle—
दृष्ट्वा पराजितान्वीरान्रूपणो भयकातरः
Seeing the heroes defeated, Rūpaṇa was seized by fear.
ब्रह्मानंदस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा लक्षसैन्यसमन्वितः
Brahmananda, hearing this, along with his army of a hundred thousand—
लिखित्वा निर्मलं पत्रं तद्राज्ञे त्वरितो ददौ
He quickly wrote a spotless letter and gave it to that king.
कृष्णांशाय सुतां देहि नाम्ना पुष्पवतीं शुभाम्
Give your daughter, named Pushpavati, to Krishnaamsha.
निशम्येति नृपश्रेष्ठो मयूरध्वज एव सः अहोरात्रं कृतं युद्धं तेन सार्द्धं भयप्रदम्
Hearing this, that foremost of kings, Mayuradhvaja, fought a terrifying battle with him for a day and a night.
ब्रह्मानंदस्तु बलवान्बाणयुद्धमचीकरत् 3.3.21.
Then the mighty Brahmananda engaged in a battle of arrows.
तदा स्वर्णवतीपुत्रो जयन्तः शक्रसंभवः
At that time, Jayanta, son of Svarnavati, born of Shakra—
सूत उवाच मंगलं कृतवान्राजा तदा परिमलो बली
Sūta said: Then King Parimala, powerful, performed an auspicious rite.
पुष्पवत्या तया सार्द्धं गीतनृत्यविशारदः
Together with Pushpavati, skilled in song and dance.
हेमंतशिशिरे वीरो रहः क्रीडां करोति वै
In the cold of winter, the hero engages in secret sport.
ग्राम्यधर्मं न कृतवान्सर्वस्पर्शविशारदः
He did not engage in worldly duties, being skilled in all forms of contact.
कृष्णांशं वचनं प्राह पूर्वजन्मनि को भवान्
The portion of Krishna spoke, saying: 'Who were you in your previous birth?'
नृपोहं चंद्रदासश्च पूर्वजन्मनि हे प्रिये
O beloved, in my previous birth I was a king named Chandradāsa.
शालग्रामशिलापूजा प्रत्यहं वै मया कृता
Every day I performed worship of the Shalagrama stone.
मृतेऽहनि तु संप्राप्ते शालग्रामे मनो दधौ
When the day of death arrived, my mind was fixed on Shalagrama.
कलिना प्रार्थितो विष्णुः कालात्मा परमेश्वरः
Vishnu, the Lord of all and embodiment of time, was invoked by Kali.
यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति वै प्रिये 3.3.22.१
Whenever there is a decline of righteousness, O beloved,
सत्ये तु मानसी पूजा देवानां तृप्तिहेतवे
Indeed, in the Satya Yuga, mental worship brings satisfaction to the gods.
द्वापरे मूर्तिपूजा च देवानां वै प्रियंकरी
In the Dvapara Yuga, image worship is most pleasing to the gods.
अहं हंसः सत्ययुगे त्रेतायां यज्ञपूरुषः शालग्रामः कलौ प्राप्ते देवानां तृप्तये ह्यहम्
I am the Swan in the Satya Yuga, the Person of Sacrifice in Treta; when Kali arrives, I am Shalagrama for the satisfaction of the gods.
मुनयो देवतास्सर्वास्तथा पितृगणाः प्रिये
O beloved, all sages, deities, and hosts of ancestors likewise—
द्विजातिभिस्त्रिवर्णैश्च पूजनं चंदनादिकैः
—are to be worshipped by the twice-born and the three castes with sandal and other offerings.
म्लेच्छैश्च दर्शनं पुण्यं विनयाद्भक्तिभावतः तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण क्षयं यास्यंति वै मलाः
Even by foreigners, seeing it with humility and devotion is meritorious; by merely seeing it, their impurities are destroyed.
इति ते कथितं देवि युगमर्यादमुत्तमम्
Thus, O goddess, the supreme code of conduct for the ages has been told to you.
पुष्पवत्युवाच गाननृत्यादिकं वाद्यं देवस्याग्रे मया कृतम्
Pushpavati said: I performed singing, dancing, and playing of instruments before the deity.
तेन पुण्यप्रभावेण स्वर्गलोकमुपागता
By the power of that merit, I attained the heavenly world.
