हे इन्दुल महाभाग पितृमातृयशस्कर
"O Indula, greatly fortunate one, bringer of honor to your father and mother," he said.
पूर्वं हत्वा च मां वीर स्वपितृव्यं ततः पुनः सुखी भव महावीर गेहे वै सुखवर्मणः
"First, after killing me, O hero, and then your paternal uncle, may you be happy, O great hero, in the house of Sukhavarman."
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य ज्ञात्वा च स्वकुलं शिशुः कृतवान्रोदनं गाढमपराधनिवृत्तये
Hearing these words and realizing his own family, the child wept bitterly, seeking to atone for his offense.
उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं शृणु तात मम प्रिय
He spoke sweet words: "Listen, dear father, my beloved."
देवो वा मानुषो वापि पन्नगो वापि दानवः
"Whether god, human, serpent, or demon—"
सोहमाजन्मशुद्धस्य पितुराह्लादकस्य च
"I am he, pure from birth, who brings joy to my father."
पद्मिन्या जनितं मोहं गृहीत्वा ज्ञातवान्न हि
"Having accepted the delusion born of the lotus-lady, I did not know."
इत्युक्त्वा स पुनर्बालो रुरोद स्नेहकातरः
Having spoken thus, the boy again wept, overwhelmed by affection.
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य कृष्णांशो वचनं शिशोः उत्सवं कारयामास तत्र देशे जनेजने
Hearing the child's words, Krishna's portion arranged a festival in that land for all the people.
आर्य्यसिंहस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा नानाद्रव्यसमन्वितः 3.3.19.
Hearing this, Aryasimha, adorned with various gifts—
शतं हयांस्तथा नागान्मुक्तामणि विभूषितान्
—gave a hundred horses and elephants, adorned with pearls and jewels.
प्रस्थानमकरोत्तेषां स प्रेम्णा वाक्यगद्गदः
He arranged their departure, his voice choked with love.
उषित्वा मासमेकं तु तस्मिन्मार्गे भयानके
Having stayed for one month on that fearful path,
आह्लादस्तु प्रसन्नात्मा सुतं पत्नीसमन्वितम्
Āhlāda, with a cheerful heart, together with his wife and son,
दशहाराख्यनगरं संप्राप्तः स्वकुलैस्सह
He reached the city called Daśahāra, along with his family.
पृथ्वीराजस्तु तच्छ्रुत्वा विस्मयं परमं ययौ
King Pṛthvīrāja, having heard this, was filled with great astonishment.
अप्ससरस्त्वं स्वयं त्यक्त्वा भूमौ नारीत्वमागता
You, abandoning your form as an apsaras, yourself came to earth as a woman.
यक्ष्मणा मरणं प्राप्य स्वर्गलोकमुपाययौ
Having died from consumption, you attained the heavenly world.
सूत उवाच मुने पांचालदेशे तु राजासीद्बलवर्द्धनः
Sūta said: O sage, in the land of Pāñcāla there was a king named Balavarddhana.
बिसेनवंशभूपालो वेदतत्त्वविशारदः
He was a ruler from the Bisen dynasty, well-versed in the essence of the Vedas.
तस्य पुत्रावुभौ जातौ क्षत्रधर्मपरायणौ
He had two sons, both devoted to the duties of kṣatriyas.
द्वादशाब्दवया भूत्वा मयूरध्वज एव सः
When he reached the age of twelve years, he was known as Mayūradhvaja.
यतेंद्रियस्तथा मौनी वानप्रस्थ परायणः
He was self-controlled, silent, and devoted to the path of a forest-dweller.
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्सेनानीरग्निभूः स्वयम्
Then the blessed commander, Agnibhū, himself became pleased.
मयूरध्वज एवापि दृष्ट्वा सर्वमयं शिशुम्
Even Mayūradhvaja, seeing that the child was entirely made of gold,
मयूरध्वज उवाच पिबति मात्रियं दुग्धमुत्तमं वधति सर्वदा दैत्यदानवान्
Mayūradhvaja said: He drinks his mother's excellent milk and always slays the daityas and dānavas.
नमस्ते देवसेनेश महिषासुरमर्दन
Salutations to you, lord of Devasenā, slayer of Mahiṣāsura.
प्रसन्नो भव सर्वात्मन्गुहशक्तिधराव्यय 3.3.20.
Be gracious, O all-pervading one, bearer of Guha's power, imperishable one.
इति श्रुत्वा स्तुतिं तस्य सेनानीस्तमुवाच वै
Hearing his praise, the commander of the army spoke to him.
इत्युक्तस्तेन देवेन भूपतिः प्राह नम्रधीः
Thus addressed by that god, the king humbly replied.
