बलाद्दोलां समारोप्य लुंठयित्वा रिपोर्गृहम्
By force, he placed her on a palanquin and plundered the enemy’s house.
बलखानिस्तु बलवान्देवतालनसंयुतः
Balakhāni, powerful and accompanied by Devatālana,
सुखवर्माणमागत्य सेनाध्यक्षं रिपोः सुतम्
Reached Sukhavarman, the commander of the enemy’s army and his son.
हते तस्मिन्महावीर्ये जयन्तः क्रोधमूर्च्छितः
When that great hero was slain, Jayanta was overcome with wrath.
श्यालं च सुखवर्माणं संजीव्य स्वगृहं ययौ
He revived his brother-in-law Sukhavarman and went to his own house.
विस्मितः स ययौ गेहं यथा पूर्वं तथाविधः
Astonished, he went home, just as before, in the same manner.
आर्य्यसिंहगृहं गत्वा पृष्टवान्सर्वकारणम्
He went to the house of Arya Simha and inquired about everything.
रुरोद सुभृशं वीरो हा प्रिये मदविह्वले
The hero wept bitterly, crying, 'Alas, my beloved, overcome with passion!'
इत्येवं रोदनं कृत्वा वडवोपरि संस्थितः एकाकी स ययौ क्रुद्धो निशि यत्र स्थितो रिपुः
Having thus wept, he stood upon the mare, and alone, enraged, went at night to where the enemy was stationed.
एतस्मिन्समये वीरो बलखानिर्महाबलः 3.3.19.
At that very moment, the mighty hero Balakhan arrived.
हा इन्दुल महावीर हा मद्बंधो प्रियंकर
'Alas, Indula, great hero! Alas, my kinsman, bringer of joy!'
दर्शनं देहि मे शीघ्रं गृहाणाद्य शुभाननाम्
'Grant me your vision quickly, O one with an auspicious face, accept me today!'
तस्मिन्काले च संप्राप्तः शक्रपुत्रो महाबलः
At that time, the mighty son of Indra arrived.
दृष्ट्वा सैन्यनिपातं च तालनो वाहिनीपतिः।। । सिंहनादं ननादोच्चैः सिंहिन्युपरि संस्थितः
Seeing the army's deployment, Talana, the commander, standing atop the lioness, roared loudly like a lion.
न जयः सैन्यनाशेन तव वीर भविष्यति
'O hero, victory will not be yours by the destruction of the army.'
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य शक्रपुत्रो भयंकरः स्वभल्लेन पुनर्वीरो दंशयामास वक्षसि
Hearing these words, the terrifying son of Indra, the hero, struck again at his chest with his own mace.
इंदुले मूर्छिते तस्मिन्वडवा दिव्यरूपिणी
As Indula fainted, the mare took on a divine form.
तदा स बालस्त्वरितः कालास्त्रं चाप आदधे
Then that boy, in haste, took up the weapon of Time and his bow.
मृते सेनापतौ तस्मिन्कृष्णांशो मदविह्वलः
When the commander was slain, Krishnaamsha, overcome with passion, was distraught.
इन्दुलः क्रोधताम्राक्षस्त्वाग्नेयं शरमाददे कृत्वा शीघ्रं ययौ शत्रुं स तु वायव्यमादधे ।। 3.3.19.
Indula, his eyes reddened with anger, took up the fire-missile; acting swiftly, he went to the enemy, who took up the wind-missile.
स्वयोगेनैव कृष्णांशः पीत्वा वायव्यमुत्तमम्
By his own yogic power, Krishnaamsha drank up the supreme wind-missile.
तथाविधं रिपुं दृष्ट्वा शक्रपुत्रो महाबलः
Seeing such an adversary, the mighty son of Indra was amazed.
पुनर्योगबलेनैव तदस्त्रं संक्षयं गतम्
Again, by the power of yoga, that weapon was rendered ineffective.
स्वयोगेनैव कृष्णांशो जलं सर्वं मुखेऽकरोत्
By his own yogic power, Krishnaamsha placed all the water into his mouth.
ययौ शीघ्रं प्रसन्नात्मा बाहुशाली यतेन्द्रियः चर्म खड्गं गृहीत्वाशु खड्गयुद्धमचीकरत्
With a clear mind, mighty arms, and self-controlled senses, he swiftly went forth, taking up his shield and sword, and immediately engaged in sword combat.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे प्राप्ता देवाद्याः सर्वभूमिपाः
Meanwhile, the gods and all the kings of the earth arrived.
प्रातःकाले च संप्राप्ते बलखानिर्महाबलः
At dawn, the powerful Balakhani appeared.
श्रमेण कर्शितो वीरः शक्रपुत्रः प्रतापवान्
The heroic and illustrious son of Indra, worn out by fatigue, stood there.
स्वखड्गेनैव कृष्णांश शिरस्तव हराम्यहम् इत्युक्त्वा खड्गमादाय ययौ शीघ्रं रुषान्वितः
"With my own sword, O Krishna's portion, I shall take your head," he said, and, seizing his sword, went forth swiftly, filled with anger.
बलखानिस्तु तं ज्ञात्वा त्यक्त्वास्त्रं प्रेमकातरः 3.3.19.
But Balakhani, recognizing him, out of love abandoned his weapon.
