किं त्वया विदितं नैव चरितं तस्य विश्रुतम्
What have you not known? The deeds of that one are renowned.
ते सर्वे वशगास्तस्य ब्रह्मानंदस्य धीमतः
All of them were under the control of Brahmānanda, the wise.
इति श्रुत्वा ययौ तूर्णं तारकः स्वबलैः सह 3.3.17.
Having heard thus, Tāraka quickly went with his forces.
कृष्णांशस्तु गृहीत्वाशु पद्यं वाक्यमुवाच ह
Taking Krishna, he swiftly spoke a verse.
तूष्णीं भूतास्तदा सर्वे तारकः स द्विजैः सह
Then all became silent, and Tāraka, together with the twice-born, remained so.
माघमासे सिते पक्षे त्रयोदश्यां सुवासरे
In the month of Māgha, in the bright fortnight, on the auspicious thirteenth day.
सप्तलक्षबलैः सार्द्धं लक्षणश्च सतालनः
Together with seven hundred thousand warriors, Lakṣaṇa was accompanied by Satālana.
आह्लादो लक्षसैन्याढ्यः कृष्णांशेन समन्वितः
Āhlāda, possessing an army of a hundred thousand, was endowed with a portion of Kṛṣṇa.
नेत्रसिंहो लक्षसैन्यो योगभोगसमन्वितः
Netrasiṃha, with a force of a hundred thousand, was endowed with the enjoyment of yoga.
एवं द्वादशलक्षाणां सैन्यानामधिपो बली
Thus, the mighty lord of the armies of twelve hundred thousand was established.
सैन्यैर्द्वादशलक्षैश्च सहितस्तालनो बली
Tālano, powerful, was accompanied by twelve hundred thousand troops.
देवो मनोरथारूढो विंदुलस्थः स कृष्णकः
The god, mounted upon the chariot of desire, was situated at Viṃdula, and he was Kṛṣṇaka.
रूपणश्च करालस्थ आह्लादश्च पपीहके 3.3.17.
Rūpaṇa was at Karāla, and Āhlāda was at Papīhaka.
रणजिन्मलनापुत्रः संस्थितो हरिनागरे
Raṇajinmalanā's son was established in Harinagara.
विमानवरमारुह्य धीवरैः शतवाहिकैः
Ascending the excellent aerial vehicle, together with the fishermen and the hundred-horsemen,
अयुतैश्च पताकैश्च वेत्रपाणिसहक्रकैः
With tens of thousands of banners and those bearing staffs in their hands,
शकटैर्महिषोढैस्तु तथा पञ्चसहस्रकैः
With carts drawn by buffaloes, and likewise with five thousand others,
श्रुत्वा कोलाहलं तेषां महीराजो नृपोत्तमः
Hearing their tumult, the king of the earth, foremost among rulers,
दुर्गद्वारि क्रियां रम्यां कृत्वा विधिविधानतः
At the fortress gate, he performed a delightful rite according to prescribed rules.
इन्दुलस्तु ययौ स्वर्गं वासवं प्रति चाब्रवीत्
Indulastu went to heaven and spoke to Vāsava.
कुबेरात्स समानीय दिव्यमाभूषणं ददौ
He brought a divine ornament from Kubera and gave it.
आह्लादस्तु स्वयं गत्वा वेलाये भूषणं ददौ
Āhlāda himself went to the shore and gave an ornament.
संप्राप्ते प्रथमावर्ते तारकः खड्गमाददौ 3.3.17.
When the first cycle arrived, Tāraka took up a sword.
नृहरिस्तु द्वितीये च कृष्णांशं प्रति चारुधत्
Nṛhari, in the second cycle, adorned Kṛṣṇa's portion.
मर्दनं सुखखानिस्तु चतुर्थावर्तकेऽरुधत् देवस्तु वर्धनं वीरं सप्तावर्ते क्रमाद्ययौ
He endured hardship and found comfort in the fourth cycle, and the god, increasing in strength, proceeded in order through the seventh cycle.
शतभूपान्खड्गधरान्गजसेनादिकांस्तदा
At that time, there were a hundred kings, sword-bearers, and leaders of elephant armies.
भग्नभूतं नृपबलं दृष्ट्वा राजा रुषान्वितः
Seeing his army of kings broken and defeated, the king became filled with anger.
जित्वा तान्नेत्रसिंहादीञ्छब्दवेधी नृपोत्तमः
Having conquered those leaders like Netra and Simha, the foremost king, skilled in sound-aimed archery, prevailed.
शिवं मनसि संस्थाप्य जित्वा बद्ध्वा रुषान्वितः
Establishing Shiva in his mind, he conquered and bound them, filled with wrath.
श्रुत्वा परिमलो राजा कृष्णांशं भीरुको ययौ
Hearing this, King Parimala, fearful of Krishna's portion, departed.
