मृताहं च त्वया पुत्र पुनरुज्जीविता खलु
I was dead, O son, but by you I have truly been revived.
इति श्रुत्वेन्दुलो वीरो नत्वाह जननीं मुदा
Hearing this, Bindula, the hero, bowed joyfully to his mother and spoke.
संप्राप्ते गेहमाह्लादे राजा परिमलः सुधीः
When joy entered the house, King Parimala, wise, was present.
मृते कृष्णकुमारे तु भूपतौ रत्नभानुना
When Krishna Kumara, the king, died, Ratnabhanu became ruler.
महीराजः सुदुःखार्तो लक्षचंडीमकारयत्
The great king, overwhelmed with sorrow, performed a hundred thousand Chandika rites.
वर्षेवर्षे तु ते सप्त भविष्यंत्यंगसम्भवाः
Year after year, seven will be born from the limbs of Bhavishya.
इत्युक्ते वचने तस्मिन्राज्ञी गर्भमथो दधौ
When these words were spoken, the queen then conceived.
द्वितीयाब्दे तथा जाते दुश्शासनशुभांशतः
In the second year, a child was born from the auspicious portion of Dushasana.
उद्धर्षांशः सरदनो दुर्मुखांशस्तु मर्दनः
Uddharṣāṃśa was Saradana, and Durmukha was Mardana.
वर्द्धनश्चित्रबाणांशो वेला तदनु चाभवत्
Varddhana was a part of Citrabāṇa, and then Velā came after that.
भुवि तस्यां च जातायां भूकम्पो दारुणोऽभवत् रक्तवृष्टिः पुरे चासीदस्थिशर्करया युता
When she was born on earth, a terrible earthquake occurred; and in the city, there was a rain of blood mixed with bone and sugar.
ब्राह्मणाश्च समागत्य जातकर्मादिकां क्रियाम्
The Brāhmaṇas gathered and performed the rites of birth and other ceremonies.
इला च शशिनो माता विकल्पेनाऽभवद्भुवि 3.3.17.
Ilā, the mother of the moon, was born on earth in a peculiar manner.
जातायां च सुतायां स पिता विप्रेभ्य उत्तमम्
When the daughter was born, her father gave the best to the Brāhmaṇas.
द्वादशाब्दवयः प्राप्ते सा सुता वरवर्णिनी
When twelve years had passed, that daughter, of excellent complexion,
मंडपे रक्तधाराभिर्यो मां संस्नापयिष्यति
Whoever bathes me in the pavilion with streams of blood,
स्वर्णपत्रे तदा राजा पद्यं वेलामुखोद्भवम्
Then the king, on a golden plate, composed a verse arising from Velāmukha.
सार्द्धं लक्षत्रयं द्रव्यं गृहीत्वा लक्षसैन्यकः
Taking together three hundred thousand in wealth, with an army of a hundred thousand,
सिंधुस्थाने चार्यदेशे भूपं भूपं ययौ बली महीपतिं स संप्राप्य मातुलं तद्वचोऽब्रवीत्
He went to Sindhu and Āryadeśa, the powerful one went to each king; having reached the king, his maternal uncle, he spoke these words.
श्रुत्वा स आह भो वीर ब्रह्मानन्दो महाबलः
Having heard, he said: 'O hero, Brahmānanda is of great strength.'
किं त्वया विदितं नैव चरितं तस्य विश्रुतम्
What have you not known? The deeds of that one are renowned.
ते सर्वे वशगास्तस्य ब्रह्मानंदस्य धीमतः
All of them were under the control of Brahmānanda, the wise.
इति श्रुत्वा ययौ तूर्णं तारकः स्वबलैः सह 3.3.17.
Having heard thus, Tāraka quickly went with his forces.
कृष्णांशस्तु गृहीत्वाशु पद्यं वाक्यमुवाच ह
Taking Krishna, he swiftly spoke a verse.
तूष्णीं भूतास्तदा सर्वे तारकः स द्विजैः सह
Then all became silent, and Tāraka, together with the twice-born, remained so.
माघमासे सिते पक्षे त्रयोदश्यां सुवासरे
In the month of Māgha, in the bright fortnight, on the auspicious thirteenth day.
सप्तलक्षबलैः सार्द्धं लक्षणश्च सतालनः
Together with seven hundred thousand warriors, Lakṣaṇa was accompanied by Satālana.
आह्लादो लक्षसैन्याढ्यः कृष्णांशेन समन्वितः
Āhlāda, possessing an army of a hundred thousand, was endowed with a portion of Kṛṣṇa.
नेत्रसिंहो लक्षसैन्यो योगभोगसमन्वितः
Netrasiṃha, with a force of a hundred thousand, was endowed with the enjoyment of yoga.
एवं द्वादशलक्षाणां सैन्यानामधिपो बली
Thus, the mighty lord of the armies of twelve hundred thousand was established.
