कृष्णांशो माल्यकारस्य वधूर्भूत्वा समागतः
Kṛṣṇāṃśa, having become the bride of the garland-maker, arrived there.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे वीराः षष्टिर्वाहनसंयुताः
Meanwhile, sixty heroes equipped with vehicles appeared.
तानागतान्स बलवान्दृष्ट्वा खड्गं गृहीतवान्
Seeing those who had arrived, the mighty one took up his sword.
कृष्णांशस्त्वरितो गत्वा रूपणो यत्र तिष्ठति
Kṛṣṇāṃśa quickly went to the place where Rūpaṇa was standing.
हृते ढक्कामृते दिव्ये नेत्रसिंहो भयातुरः
When the divine ḍhakkā-drum was taken away, Netra-siṃha became seized by fear.
प्रभाते समनुप्राप्ते ते वीराः स्वबलैः सह दिनान्ते प्राप्तवंतश्च यत्राभूत्समहारणः
At the coming of dawn, those heroes, along with their forces, arrived; and by day's end, they reached the place where a great battle occurred.
कृष्णांशः पूजयित्वा तं दध्मौ ढक्कामृतं बली 3.3.13.
Kṛṣṇāṃśa, having worshipped him, then the mighty one sounded the divine ḍhakkā-drum.
सप्तलक्षबलं तस्य पुनः प्राप्तं मदातुरम्
His army of seven hundred thousand, intoxicated with pride, returned again.
रुद्धे तु नगरे तस्मिन्नेत्रसिंहो भयातुरः
When the city was besieged, Netra-siṃha was overcome with fear.
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवानुवाच नृपतिं प्रति
Then the gracious Lord spoke to the king,
तस्मै योग्याय सा कन्या रामांशाय यशस्विने
To him, worthy and renowned, the maiden was given—Rāmāṃśa.
इत्युक्त्वा च स्वयं देवो ढक्कामृतमुमाप्रियम्
Having spoken thus, the god himself gave the beloved ḍhakkā-drum of Umā.
गते तस्मिन्सुरपतो स राजा ब्राह्मणैः सह
When that lord of the gods had departed, the king, together with the brāhmaṇas,
तथागतं नृपं दृष्ट्वा कृष्णांशश्च महीपतिः
Seeing the king who had thus arrived, Kṛṣṇāṃśa, the lord of the earth,
राजन्नयं स बलवानाह्रादः सानुजैः सह
O King, this powerful Ahlada is here together with his brothers.
आर्याभीरी स्मृता तेषां किं त्वया विदितं न हि
They are known as Arya-Abhira; but you do not seem to know this.
अतस्त्वं वचनं चेदं कुलयोग्यं शृणुष्व भोः 3.3.13.
Therefore, listen to this advice, which is suitable for your lineage, O sir.
वञ्चयित्वा विवाहार्थे शिरांस्येषां समाहर
Deceive them for the purpose of marriage and collect their heads.
त्वत्कन्यया समाहूता वीरा वै रेवती हि सा
The heroes summoned by your daughter are indeed Revati.
नो चेद्भवान्क्षयं यायात्सकुलो जंबुको यथा
Otherwise, you would perish with your family, like a jackal.
इति श्रुत्वा स शल्यांशः सुयोधनमुखेरितम् आह्लादस्य समीपं स गत्वैतद्वंचनाय हि
Having heard this, Shalya's portion, spoken by Suyodhana, went to Ahlada for this deception.
भवन्तोंशावताराश्च मया ज्ञाताः सुरोत्तमात् रामांशाय स्वकन्यां च दास्यामि कुलरीतितः
I have learned from the best of gods that you are all partial incarnations; according to family custom, I will give my daughter to Rama's portion.
इत्याह्रादं समादिश्य स नृपश्छलमाश्रितः
Thus instructing Ahlada, the king resorted to deceit.
सहस्रं मंडपे भूपान्संस्थाप्य स्वबलैः सह
He placed a thousand kings in the pavilion along with his own forces.
विवाहप्रथमावर्ते योगसिंहोऽसिमुत्तमम्
At the first round of the marriage, Yogasimha held the excellent sword.
तमाह तालनो धीमान्न योग्यं भवता कृतम् निरायुधैः परैः सार्द्धं शस्त्रिणां संगरो हि नः
The wise Talana said to him: 'What you have done is not proper; a contest among armed men with unarmed ones is not for us.'
इति श्रुत्वा योगसिंहं कृष्णांशस्तं समारुधत् 3.3.13.
Hearing this, Krishna's portion mounted upon Yogasimha.
विजयं तृतीयावर्ते सुखखानिर्न्यरुंद्ध वै रूपणस्तं गृहीत्वाशु युयुधे तद्बलैः सह
In the third round, Vijaya blocked the path of happiness; Rupan quickly seized him and fought together with his forces.
पंचमे बहुराजानं तालनश्च समारुधत्
In the fifth round, Talana mounted against the many kings.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे देवः कालदर्शी समागतः
Meanwhile, the god who sees time arrived.
