बलखानिस्तदा प्राप्तश्चैकलक्षबलान्वितः
At that time, Balakhani also arrived, accompanied by an army of one hundred thousand.
सज्जीभूतान्समालोक्य तानुद्याने ससैन्यकान्
Seeing those who were prepared, with their armies, in the garden—
विह्वलं नृपमालोक्य कृष्णांशोऽऽश्वासयन्मुदा
Seeing the king distressed, Krishna's portion comforted him with joy.
लक्षसैन्यं तदीयं च गृहीत्वा चाधिपोऽभवत्
Having seized that army of one hundred thousand, he became the lord.
पताकाः पञ्चसाहस्राः साहस्रं काष्ठकारिणः
There were five thousand banners and a thousand carpenters.
त्रिलक्षाश्च हयाः सर्वे उष्ट्रा दशसहस्रकाः
And there were three hundred thousand horses in all, and ten thousand camels.
तालनश्च समायातः सर्वसेनाधिपोऽभवत्
Tālana arrived and became the commander of the entire army.
बलखानिर्हयानां च सर्वेषामधिपोऽभवत् पत्तीनां चैव सर्वेषां कृष्णांशश्चाधिपोऽभवत्
Balakhāni became the leader of all the cavalry, and Kṛṣṇāṃśa became the chief of all the infantry.
नत्वा ते मलनां भूपो दत्त्वा दानान्यनेकशः
Having bowed, the king of the Malanas gave many gifts.
पक्षमात्रगतः कालो मार्गे तस्मिन्रणैषिणाम् सेनां निवासयामासुर्निर्भयास्ते महाबलाः ।। 3.3.12.
At that time, only half a day had passed on the path of those seeking battle; the mighty warriors stationed their army there, fearless.
देवसिंहमतेनैव योगिनस्ते तदाभवन्
By the opinion of Devasiṃha, those yogis became so at that time.
मड्डुधारी तदा देवो वीणाधारी च तालनः
Maḍḍudhārī was then like a god, and Tālana held the vīṇā.
मातुरग्रे स्थितास्ते वै ननृतुः प्रेमविह्वलाः
Standing before their mother, they danced, overwhelmed with love.
मोहितां मातरं दृष्ट्वा परं हर्षमुपाययुः
Seeing their mother enchanted, they experienced great joy.
नत्वा तां प्रययुः सर्वे पुरीं माहिष्मतीं शुभाम्
After bowing to her, they all departed for the auspicious city of Māhiṣmatī.
दूत्या सार्द्धं रिपोर्गेहं ययुस्ते कार्यतत्पराः
Together with the messenger, they went to the enemy's house, intent on their mission.
विसंज्ञां महिषीं कृत्वा कृष्णांशः सर्वमोहनः
Kṛṣṇāṃśa, the enchanter of all, rendered the queen unconscious.
दृष्ट्वा सा सुंदरं रूपं श्यामांगं पुरुषोत्तमम्
She saw the beautiful form, the dark-bodied supreme man.
दृष्ट्वा तथा गतां नारीं कृष्णांशः श्लक्ष्णया गिरा
Seeing the woman thus arrived, Kṛṣṇāṃśa spoke to her with gentle words.
साह भो देवकीपुत्र यदि पाणिं ग्रहीष्यसि 3.3.12.
She said, 'O son of Devakī, if you will take my hand...'
तथेत्युक्त्वा स बलवाँस्तस्याः पाणिं गृहीतवान्
He replied, 'So be it,' and, being strong, took her hand.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे राज्ञी बाधिता प्राह योगिनम् तुभ्यं दास्यामि संतुष्टा नृत्यगानविमोहिता
Meanwhile, the queen, afflicted, spoke to the yogi: 'Satisfied and enchanted by the dance and song, I will give myself to you.'
इति श्रुत्वा वत्ससुतस्तां प्रशस्य गृहीतवान्
Hearing this, the son of Vatsa praised her and accepted her.
ननर्त तत्र कृष्णांशो बलखानिरगायत
There, Kṛṣṇāṃśa danced, and Balakhāni sang.
मोहितोऽभून्नृपस्तत्र कालियः स्वजनैः सह
There, King Kaliya was deluded together with his own people.
इति श्रुत्वा वचः शत्रोर्बलखानिर्महाबलः स्वविद्यां दर्शयेन्मह्यं तदा तृप्तिं व्रजाम्यहम्
Hearing the enemy's words, mighty Balakhan said: 'Show me your own skill, then I will be satisfied.'
इति श्रुत्वा तथा मत्वा लक्षावर्तिं नृपोत्तमः
Hearing this and considering thus, the excellent king made a hundred thousand preparations.
सा वेश्या सुतमाह्लादं ज्ञात्वा योगित्वमागतम्
That courtesan, knowing her son's delight and that he had attained yogic power,
रुदितां तां समालोक्य रुदन्नाह्लाद एव सः
Seeing her weeping, he too, delighted, wept.
कृष्णांशस्तत्र तं हारं तस्याः कंठे प्रदत्तवान् 3.3.12.
Krishna's descendant there placed that necklace on her neck.
