तदोत्थाय महीराजो महादेवेन बोधितः
Then the king of the earth, instructed by Mahadeva, arose.
सुखखान्यादिकाञ्छूरान्संबध्य निगडैर्दृढैः
He firmly bound Sukhakhanya and the other Kanchuras with strong shackles.
हाहाभूतं स्वसैन्यं च दृष्ट्वा स उदयो हरिः
Seeing his own army thrown into confusion and distress, Udaya Hari was troubled.
महीराजगजं प्राप्य बद्ध्वा तं निगडैर्बलो
Having seized the king’s elephant, Bala bound it with chains.
तदा तु पृथिवीराजो लज्जितस्तेन निर्जितः
Then the king of the earth, defeated by him, was ashamed.
देवसिंहाज्ञया शूरो बलखानिर्हि वत्सजः
By the command of Devasimha, the valiant son of Vatsa subdued the enemy forces.
शिरीषाख्यं पुरं नाम तेन वीरेण वै कृतम्
That hero established a city named Shirisha.
तत्रैव न्यवसद्वीरो वत्सजः स्वकुलैः सह
There, the valiant son of Vatsa dwelt together with his family.
श्रुत्वा परिमलो राजा तत्रागत्य मुदान्वितः 3.3.11.
Hearing this, King Parimala came there, filled with joy.
ब्रह्मानंदेन सहितः स्वगेहं पुनराययौ
United with Brahmananda, he returned again to his own home.
इषशुक्लदशम्यां च राज्ञां जातः समागमः
On the tenth day of the bright half of Isha, the kings assembled.
कान्यकुब्जे महारम्ये नानाभूपाः समाययुः
In beautiful Kanyakubja, various kings gathered.
कृष्णांशदर्शने वांछा तस्य चासीत्तदा मुने
At that time, O sage, he desired to see Krishnaamsha.
जितो येन महीराजः सर्वलोकप्रपूजितः भ्रातृजं प्रणतं प्राह शृणु शुक्लयशस्कर
He, by whom the king of the earth—honored by all the worlds—was conquered, spoke to his bowed brother: 'Listen, O Shuklayaśaskara.'
राजराजपदं ते हि कथं संहर्तुमिच्छसि
'How do you wish to remove the title of king of kings?'
राजानस्ते च सहिताः स्वसैन्यैः परिवारिताः
Those kings, surrounded by their own armies, were together.
शिरीषाख्यपुरस्थं च ज्ञात्वा कृष्णांशमुत्तमम्
Knowing that Krishnaamsha was in the city named Shirisha,
ददृशुस्तं महात्मानं पुंडरीकनिभाननम्
They saw that great soul, whose face was like a lotus.
तदा महीपतिः क्रुद्धो वचनं प्राह भूपतीन् पितरौ तस्य बलिनौ माहिष्मत्यां मृतिं गतौ
Then the king, enraged, spoke to the rulers: 'His two powerful parents met their death in Mahishmati.'
जम्बुको नाम भूपालो नार्मदीयैः समन्वितः शिलापत्रे समारोप्य तयोर्गात्रमचूर्णयत् 3.3.12.
A king named Jambuka, accompanied by the people of Narmada, placed their bodies upon a stone slab and crushed them.
अद्यापि तौ स्थितौ वीरौ हा पुत्रेति प्रभाषिणौ तस्योदयो वृथा ज्ञेयो वृथाकीर्तिः प्रियंकरी
Even today, those two heroes remain, crying out 'Alas, son!'—their rise is to be known as in vain, their fame, though dear, is fruitless.
इति श्रुत्वा स कृष्णांशो भूपतीन्प्राह नम्रधीः
Hearing this, Krishna's portion, humble in mind, addressed the kings.
म्लेच्छैर्नराशनैः सार्द्धं तन्नृपेण रणोऽभवत् म्लेच्छैस्तैश्च हतौ तत्र श्रुतेयं विश्रुता कथा
There was a battle with that king together with the Mlecchas and Narashanas; there, those Mlecchas were slain, and this renowned tale is heard.
मातुलेनाद्य कथितं नवीनं मरणं तयोः
Today, the maternal uncle has told of the recent death of those two.
इत्युक्त्वा तान्स कृष्णांशो मातरं प्राह सत्वरम्
Having spoken thus to them, Krishna's portion quickly addressed his mother.
श्रुत्वा वज्रसमं वाक्यं रुरोद जननी तदा
Hearing those words, hard as thunder, the mother then wept.
ज्ञात्वा पितृवधं श्रुत्वा जम्बुकं शिवकिंकरम्
Having learned of his father's murder and having heard of Jambuka, the servant of Shiva—
जय जय जय जगदम्ब भवानि ह्यखिललोकसुरपितृमुनिखानि
Victory, victory, victory to you, Mother of the World, Bhavani, who are indeed the mother of all worlds, gods, ancestors, and sages!
इति ध्यात्वा स कृष्णांशः सुष्वाप निजस द्मनि मोहयित्वाशु तत्पार्श्वे प्रेषयामास सर्वगा
Meditating thus, Krishna's portion slept in his own abode; having quickly enchanted all, he sent them to his side.
चतुर्लक्षबलैः सार्द्धं तालनः शीघ्रमागतः 3.3.12.
With an army of four hundred thousand, Talana swiftly arrived.
