मन्वंतरमतो जातं तेषां योगं प्रकुर्वताम् 3.4.17.
From that time, a new Manvantara arose as they engaged in yoga.
उवाच वचनं रम्यं तेषां मंगलहेतवे
She spoke pleasing words for their auspiciousness.
रुद्रांशश्चैव दुर्वासाः प्रत्यूषः सप्तमो वसुः तेषां वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य वसवस्ते त्रयोऽभवन्
Durvasa, a portion of Rudra, and Pratyusha, the seventh Vasu—hearing their words, three of the Vasus became incarnate.
स्वांशेन भूतलं जग्मुः कलिशुद्धाय दारुणे
With a portion of themselves, they descended to earth for the purification of the dreadful Kali age.
पीपा नाम सुतः सोमः सुदेवस्य तदा ह्यभूत्
At that time, Soma, called Pipa, was the son of Sudeva.
रामानन्दस्य शिष्योऽभूद्द्वारकां स समागतः वैष्णवेभ्यो ददौ तत्र प्रेततत्त्वविनाशिनीम्
He became a disciple of Ramananda, came to Dvaraka, and there gave to the Vaishnavas the teaching that destroys the reality of the dead.
प्रत्यूषश्चैव पांचाले वैश्यजात्यां समुद्भवः
And Pratyusha was born among the Panchalas, in the Vaishya caste.
रामानन्दं समागम्य शिष्यो भूत्वा स नानकः
Having met Ramananda, Nanaka became his disciple.
प्रभासो वै शांतिपुरे ब्रह्मजात्यां समुद्भवः इति ते वसुमाहात्म्यं मया शौनक वर्णितम्
Prabhasa was born in Shantipura, in the Brahmin caste; thus, O Shaunaka, I have described to you the greatness of the earth.
अश्विनौ च समालोक्य तयोर्गाथामवर्णयत्
And seeing the Ashvins, he recited their song.
वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे पूर्वं विश्वकर्मा विचित्रकृत् स्पर्द्धाभूतो महामायां तुष्टाव बहुपूजनैः
Formerly, in the interval of Vaivasvata Manu, Vishvakarma, the maker of wonders, being in rivalry, worshipped the great Maya with many offerings.
प्रसन्ना सा तदा देवी चित्रायां तस्य योषिति
Then, the goddess, pleased, appeared in the form of Chitra, his beloved.
षोडशाब्दे वयः प्राप्ते संज्ञायास्तत्पिता सुखी
When she reached the age of sixteen, her father Sanjna was happy.
यक्षाधीशाश्च षड्विंशत्कुबेराद्यास्समागताः
And the twenty-six lords of the Yakshas, headed by Kubera, assembled.
पावका ऊनपंचाशद्वायवश्च तथा स्मृताः
The forty-nine Fires and the Winds are also remembered there.
त्रयोदश च प्रत्यूषाः प्राप्ता विश्वप्ररक्षकाः
And the thirteen Pratyushas, the protectors of the universe, arrived.
भवाद्याश्च तदाः रुद्राः शशिमण्डलरक्षकाः
And then the Rudras, beginning with Bhava, the protectors of the lunar orb.
दानवा विप्रचित्त्याद्याश्चतुराशीतिराययुः
The Danavas, beginning with Vipracitti and others, eighty-four in number, came.
शेषाद्याश्च तदा नागास्तार्क्ष्याद्या गरुडाः स्मृताः 3.4.18.
And then the Nagas, beginning with Shesha, and the Garudas, beginning with Tarkshya, are remembered.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे देवी देवकन्यासमन्विता
Meanwhile, the goddess, accompanied by divine maidens—
तां समालोक्य बलवान्बलिः कामविमोहितः
Seeing her, the powerful Bali was bewildered by desire.
तदा क्रोधातुरा देवा रुरुधुर्दैत्यसत्तमम्
Then, the gods, distressed by anger, wept over the best of the Daityas.
दानवाश्च तदा दैत्या नानावाहनसंस्थिताः
At that time, the Dānavas and Daityas were arrayed with various vehicles.
दानवैश्च हता देवाः सुरैर्दैत्या विनाशिताः
By the Dānavas, the gods were slain; by the gods, the Daityas were destroyed.
पक्षमात्र मभूद्युद्धं दिव्यं दानवदेवयोः
The divine battle between the Dānavas and the gods lasted only for the duration of a wing-beat.
अघासुरोऽर्यमा चैव बलः शक्रस्तथैव च
Aghāsura, Aryamā, Bala, and likewise Śakra were present.
वत्सासुरो भगश्चैव विवस्वांश्च बलिः स्वयम्
Vatsāsura, Bhaga, Vivasvān, and Bali himself were there.
विश्वकर्मा मयश्चैव कालनेमिर्हरिः स्वयम् पराजिताश्च ते दैत्या युद्धं त्यक्त्वा प्रदुद्रुवुः
Viśvakarmā, Maya, Kālanemi, and Hari himself—these Daityas were defeated and, abandoning the battle, fled.
विवस्वाँश्च तदा संज्ञां गृहीत्वा रथसंस्थिताम् 3.4.18.
Then Vivasvān took Saṃjñā, who was standing upon a chariot.
विवस्वंतं सुरश्रेष्ठं दृष्ट्वा संज्ञा वचोऽब्रवीत्
Seeing Vivasvān, the best of the gods, Saṃjñā spoke these words.
