ग्रहभूतः स्थितस्तत्र नभोदेव्यां तदुद्भवः 3.4.17.
Having become a planet, I remained there, originating from the goddess of the sky.

From the eastern direction, Airavata the elephant was born.
वामनः कुमुदश्चैव पुष्पदंतः क्रमाद्गजाः ।। सार्वभौमः सुप्रतीको नभोदिक्षु तु तत्सुताः
Vamana, Kumuda, and Pushpadanta are the elephants in order; Sarvabhauma and Supratika, and their sons in the directions of the sky.
अभ्रमुः कपिला चैव पिंगलाख्या इमाः क्रमात्
Abhramu, Kapila, and Pingala by name—these are, in order.
भूमिदिक्षु करिण्यश्च जातास्तस्मात्तु तत्प्रियाः
In the directions of the earth, female elephants were born from them, their beloveds.
पशुयोन्युद्भवानां च नृणां ता योषितस्सदा
And among those born from animal wombs, women are always found among men.
मनुवंशोद्भवानां च नृणां चान्योद्भवाः स्त्रियः
And among those born from the lineage of Manu, as well as other origins, there are women among men.
द्विधा धुवस्स विज्ञेयो भूमेरूर्द्ध्वमधस्तथा
Dhruva is to be understood as twofold: above and below the earth.
अधोध्रुवे सदा रात्रिर्नारकास्तत्र वै स्थिताः
At the lower Dhruva, it is always night; the hellish beings reside there.
महो जनस्तपस्सत्यं तेषु नित्यं दिनं स्मृतम् तेषु नित्यं स्मृता रात्रिः कल्पमानं च कोविदैः
Maha, Jana, Tapas, and Satya—among these, it is always considered day; among them, night is reckoned as a kalpa by the wise.
स तु पूर्वभवे चासीद्ब्राह्मणो माधवप्रियः 3.4.17.
In a previous birth, he was a Brahmin dear to Madhava.
तीर्थ पुण्यात्स वै विप्रो माधवो माधवप्रियः षट्त्रिंशच्च सहस्राब्दं राज्यं कृत्वा ध्रुवोऽभवत्
By the merit of pilgrimage, that Brahmin, Madhava, beloved of Madhava, after ruling for thirty-six thousand years, became Dhruva.
सूत उवाच इति श्रुत्वा गुरोर्वाक्यं स ध्रुवः पंचमो वसुः नरश्रीर्नाम विख्यातो गुणवैश्यस्य वै सुतः
Suta said: Thus, having heard the words of his teacher, Dhruva, the fifth Vasu, known as Narashri, son of Gunavaishya, became renowned.
कुसीदगुणगुप्तश्च नरश्रीः पुत्रवत्सलः
Narashri, the treasurer and protector of virtues, was affectionate to his sons.
प्रत्यहं स हरेः क्रीडां वृन्दावनमहोत्तमे
Every day, he enjoyed the pastimes of Hari in the great Vrindavana.
यस्य पुत्रविवाहे च भगवान्भक्तवत्सलः
At his son's wedding, the Lord, who is affectionate to devotees, was present.
पुरीं काशीं समागम्य नरश्रीभर्क्तराट् स्वयम्
Having arrived at the city of Kashi, the illustrious king of men himself—
सार्द्धं तपो महत्कुर्वन्ब्रह्मध्यानपरोऽभवत्
Together with great austerity, he engaged in supreme meditation upon Brahman.
तदा ब्रह्मा हरिश्शंभुः स्वस्ववाहनमास्थिताः
Then Brahma, Hari, and Shambhu, each mounted upon their own vehicles—
इति श्रुत्वा वच स्तेषां स्वयंभूतनयो मुनिः
Hearing their words, the sage, son of the self-born, himself—
तस्य भावं समालोक्य त्रयो देवाः सनातनाः 3.4.17.
Observing his disposition, the three eternal gods—
लिंगहस्तः स्वयं रुद्रो विष्णुस्तद्रसवर्द्धनः रतिं देहि मदाघूर्णे नो चेत्प्राणांस्त्यजाम्यहम्
Rudra, holding the linga, and Vishnu, increasing desire, said: 'Grant us pleasure, O intoxicated one, or else I will abandon my life.'
पतिव्रताऽनसूया च श्रुत्वा तेषां वचोऽशुभम्
The chaste Anasuya, hearing their improper words—
मोहितास्तत्र ते देवा गृहीत्वा तां बलात्तदा
There, those gods, deluded, seized her by force at that time.
तदा क्रुद्धा सती सा वै ताञ्छशाप मुनिप्रिया
Then, angered, that virtuous wife, dear to the sage, cursed them.
महादेवस्य वै लिंगं ब्रह्मणोऽस्य महाशिरः भविष्यंति सुरश्रेष्ठा उपहासोऽयमुत्तमः
'The linga of Mahadeva, and the great head of Brahma—these, O best of gods, shall become objects of ridicule.'
इति श्रुत्वा वचो घोरं नमस्कृत्य मुनिप्रियाम्
Hearing these terrible words, they bowed to the sage's beloved.
अनसूया तदा प्राह भवन्तो मम पुत्रकाः
Then Anasuya said, 'You shall be my sons.'
इत्युक्ते वचने ब्रह्मा चंद्रमाश्च तदा ह्यभूत् तत्पापपरिहारार्थं योगवन्तो बभूविरे
When these words were spoken, Brahma became the moon; and to remove that sin, they became endowed with yoga.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे देवी प्रकृतिस्सर्व धर्मिणी
