तदा प्राप्त इलो विप्रस्तस्या रूपेण मोहितः 3.4.17.
Then, the sage Ilo arrived, captivated by her form.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे तत्र वागुवा चाशरीरिणी
At that moment, there was a bodiless voice present there.
अनिलो नाम तत्रैव विख्यातोऽभूद्द्विजस्य वै
There, indeed, a being named Anila became renowned among the twice-born.
छित्त्वाछित्त्वा शिरो रम्यं तस्मै जातं पुनः पुनः
Having severed and rejoined the beautiful head, it was produced again and again for him.
प्राह त्वमूनपंचा शद्विभेदाञ्जनयिष्यसि
It said, 'You will generate five and sixfold divisions of these.'
यथा कुबेरो भगवान्षड्विंशद्वरुणप्रियः
Just as the blessed Kubera, beloved of the twenty-six Varuṇas.
इत्युक्ते वचने तस्मिन्दितिकुक्षौ द्विजोत्तमः
When these words were spoken, the best of the twice-born was in Diti's womb.
धान्यपालस्य वै गेहे मृलगंडान्तजः सुतः
In the house of the grain-keeper, a son was born from the cheek of Mṛlaga.
अलिको नाम वै म्लेच्छस्तत्र स्थाने समागतः
There, in that place, a foreigner named Alika arrived.
अनपत्यो वस्त्रकारी सुतं प्राप्य गृहं ययौ
Childless and a maker of garments, upon obtaining a son, he went home.
स सप्ताब्दवपुर्भूत्वा गोदुग्धपानतत्परः 3.4.17.
Having attained the form of a seven-year-old, he was intent on drinking cow's milk.
स्वहस्तेनैव संस्कृत्य भोजनं हरयेऽपर्यत्
Preparing the food himself, he offered it to Hari.
पितृमातृपरित्यक्तः स बालः पंचहायनः
Abandoned by his father and mother, that boy was five years old.
गोवर्द्धनगिरौ प्राप्य नारदस्योपदेशतः
Reaching Govardhana Hill, by the instruction of Nārada,
तदा प्रसन्नो भगवान्विष्णुर्नारायणः प्रभुः
Then the blessed Lord Viṣṇu Nārāyaṇa was pleased.
दृष्ट्वा तद्वदनं रम्यं मायाशक्त्या दिशो दश
Seeing that beautiful face, by his power of illusion, the ten directions appeared.
धुवोऽपि भगवान्साक्षात्सर्वपूज्यो बभूव ह
Even Dhruva became manifest as the Lord himself, worthy of all worship.
नभःपतिः कालकरः शिशुमारपतिस्स वै
The lord of the sky, the maker of time, and the lord of the Śiśumāra constellation as well.
तस्माद्धरायां संभूतो भौमो नाम महाग्रहः
From the earth was born the great planet known as Bhauma.
वह्निदेव्या ततो जातश्चाहं तत्र महाग्रहः
Then, from the goddess of fire, I was born there as a great planet.
ग्रहभूतः स्थितस्तत्र नभोदेव्यां तदुद्भवः 3.4.17.
Having become a planet, I remained there, originating from the goddess of the sky.

From the eastern direction, Airavata the elephant was born.
वामनः कुमुदश्चैव पुष्पदंतः क्रमाद्गजाः ।। सार्वभौमः सुप्रतीको नभोदिक्षु तु तत्सुताः
Vamana, Kumuda, and Pushpadanta are the elephants in order; Sarvabhauma and Supratika, and their sons in the directions of the sky.
अभ्रमुः कपिला चैव पिंगलाख्या इमाः क्रमात्
Abhramu, Kapila, and Pingala by name—these are, in order.
भूमिदिक्षु करिण्यश्च जातास्तस्मात्तु तत्प्रियाः
In the directions of the earth, female elephants were born from them, their beloveds.
पशुयोन्युद्भवानां च नृणां ता योषितस्सदा
And among those born from animal wombs, women are always found among men.
मनुवंशोद्भवानां च नृणां चान्योद्भवाः स्त्रियः
And among those born from the lineage of Manu, as well as other origins, there are women among men.
द्विधा धुवस्स विज्ञेयो भूमेरूर्द्ध्वमधस्तथा
Dhruva is to be understood as twofold: above and below the earth.
अधोध्रुवे सदा रात्रिर्नारकास्तत्र वै स्थिताः
At the lower Dhruva, it is always night; the hellish beings reside there.
महो जनस्तपस्सत्यं तेषु नित्यं दिनं स्मृतम् तेषु नित्यं स्मृता रात्रिः कल्पमानं च कोविदैः
Maha, Jana, Tapas, and Satya—among these, it is always considered day; among them, night is reckoned as a kalpa by the wise.
