त्र्यंबकाय तथा दद्यात्तथा धनंजयाय च नवश्लोकशतोद्भूतं संपूर्णं स्याद्भविष्यकम्
He should likewise give to Tryambaka and to Dhanañjaya; thus, the Bhaviṣya will be complete, consisting of nine hundred verses.
संहतौ तु दितिर्ज्ञात्वा कश्यपं समपूजयत्
When the destruction occurred, Diti, knowing this, worshipped Kaśyapa.
द्वादशाब्दांतरे स्वामी कश्यपो भगवानृषिः सा तु श्रुत्वा नमस्कृत्य वचनं प्राह हर्षिता
After twelve years, the venerable sage Kaśyapa became her lord; hearing this, she bowed and joyfully spoke these words.
अदितिर्मम या देवी सपत्नी पुत्रसंयुता
Aditi, who is my co-wife, the goddess, is surrounded by sons.
तदवर्यसुते नैव विष्णुना सुरपालिना
But to her inferior son, Viṣṇu, the protector of the gods, did not come.
देहि मे तनयं स्वामिन्द्वादशादित्यनाशनम्
O lord, grant me a son who will destroy the twelve Ādityas.
ब्रह्मणा निर्मितौ लोके धर्माधर्मौ परापरौ
In the world created by Brahmā, righteousness and unrighteousness, the higher and the lower, exist.
अधर्मपक्षास्तु नरा वैरिणस्तस्य धीमतः
Men who are on the side of unrighteousness are enemies of that wise one.
अतो धर्मप्रिये शुद्धं कुरु तस्मान्महाबलः
Therefore, O lover of righteousness, purify yourself; thus, you will become very powerful.
इति श्रुत्वा दितिर्देवी कश्यपाद्गर्भमुत्तमम्
Having heard this, the goddess Diti received the excellent seed from Kaśyapa.
तस्या गर्भगते पुत्रे महेन्द्रश्च भयान्वितः 3.4.17.
When her son had entered her womb, Mahendra became filled with fear.
सप्तमासि स्थिते गर्भे शक्रमायाविमोहिता
When the embryo had reached the seventh month, Śakra, by Māyā, deluded her.
अंगुष्ठमात्रो भगवान्महेन्द्रो वज्रसंयुतः
The blessed Mahendra, no larger than a thumb, was armed with the thunderbolt.
जीवभूतानतिबलान्दृष्ट्वा सप्त महारिपून्
Seeing the seven great enemies, who were living beings and exceedingly strong,
नम्रीभूतश्च तान्दृष्ट्वा महेन्द्रस्तैः समन्वितः
Mahendra, having seen them humbled, was accompanied by them.
प्रसन्ना सा दितिर्देवान्महेन्द्राय च तान्ददौ
Diti, being pleased, gave those gods to Mahendra.
इलो नाम स वेदज्ञो यथेलो नृपतिस्तदा
At that time, there was a king named Ila, learned in the Vedas.
एकदा बलवान्राजा मनुपुत्र इलः स्वयम्
Once, the powerful king Ila, son of Manu, himself—
मेरोरधः स्थितः खण्डः स्वर्णगर्भो हरिप्रियः
Beneath Mount Meru was a region called Svarṇagarbha, dear to Hari.
इलेनावृतमेवापि कृतं तत्र स्थले सुराः
That place on earth was made into Ilāvṛta, encircled by Ila, with the gods.
भारते ये स्थिता लोका इलावृतमुपागताः 3.4.17.
The worlds situated in Bhārata entered Ilāvṛta.
आरोहणं नरैस्तस्मित्कृतं स्वर्णमयं शुभम्
Men ascended there, creating a beautiful, golden structure.
तान्दृष्ट्वा मनुजान्प्राप्तान्सदेहान्स्वर्गमण्डले
Seeing those men who had arrived bodily in the heavenly realm,
ज्ञात्वा स भगवान्रुद्रो भवान्या सह शंकरः
Knowing this, the blessed Rudra, Śaṅkara, together with Bhavānī—
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे प्राप्तो वैवस्वतसुतो महान्
Meanwhile, the great son of Vaivasvata arrived.
नग्नभूतं समालोक्य नेत्रे संमील्य संस्थितः
Seeing that he had become naked, he closed his eyes and remained still.
अस्मिन्खण्डे सदा नार्यो भविष्यंति च मां विना
In this region, there will always be women, except for me.
इला बभूव नृपते कन्या जनमनोहरा
O king, Ila became a maiden, enchanting at birth.
इलासमाधिभूतायाः सप्तविंशच्चतुर्युगम् बुधं देवं पतिं कृत्वा चंद्रवंशमजीजनत्
Having become Ilā in deep meditation, for twenty-seven and four yugas, she, taking the god Budha as husband, produced the lunar dynasty.
अयोध्याधिपतिः श्रीमान्यदेलावृतमागतः
The illustrious lord of Ayodhyā also came to Ilāvṛta.
