अकाले तत्र मरणमकाले गृहिणीमृतिः
If death occurs at an improper time, or if the householder's wife dies at an improper time,
एकैकस्यायुतं यत्र कुर्यात्तत्रैव होमयेत् 2.3.20.
Wherever ten thousand are to be performed for each, there itself one should offer the oblation.
अधिप्रत्यधिसहितं गृहपक्षेऽपि सत्तमाः
Even in the case of the house's lord and sub-lord, O best ones, in the house's favor,
एकैकस्याहुतं विप्रा अष्टावष्टौ हुतं च वा
O Brahmins, for each one, a single oblation, or eight or eight oblations may be offered.
मानांतं च ददेत्पूर्णां दत्त्वा पूर्णां न होमयेत्
One should give the full measure as prescribed, but after giving the full measure, one should not offer it into the fire.
अमानकरणे दोषस्तस्मान्मानं न हापयेत्
If the measure is not made, there is fault; therefore, one should not diminish the measure.
अनिष्टाय ततो दद्याच्चरुहोमं विभागशः
For averting misfortune, one should then offer the Caru oblation in divided portions.
त्र्यंबकादिषु मंत्रेषु होमत्रयमुदाहृतम्
In the mantras beginning with Tryambaka, three homa offerings are prescribed.
आदित्यायाष्टावष्टावधिककल्पयेत्सुधीः
A wise person should arrange eight or multiples of eight offerings for Aditya.
अनिष्टाय युगांगं तु ग्रहेभ्यो ह्यंगनाय च
For averting misfortune, the yugānga portion is to be offered for the planets and for the removal of their defects.
द्वौ तु दद्यात्त्र्यंबकाय तथा धनंजयाय च
Two offerings should be given to Tryambaka and likewise to Dhananjaya.
सहस्रे चैव विंशांगे अनिष्टाय दशांशकम् 2.3.20.
In a thousandfold rite with twenty parts, a tenth portion is to be offered for averting misfortune.
तत्रानिष्टे पंचशतं तस्यार्धं ग्रहवाग्यतः ।। एकत्रिंशद्भवेन्मानम् ( ३१) अन्येषां तु चतुर्दश (१४)
There, for misfortune, five hundred are prescribed; half of that is for the utterance of the planets; the measure is thirty-one, and for the others, it is fourteen.
ग्रहाधिकं होमयुगं तत्र भागे प्रकल्पयेत्
The homa cycle exceeding the planets should be apportioned in that part.
ग्रहेभ्यश्चैव पंचांगं तत्र वांगं परानपि
From the planets, five parts are to be offered, and in that, two parts for the others as well.
अधिकं च भवेत्षष्टिर्दशमे भागशेषतः
The excess should be sixty, as the remainder of the tenth part.
चतुःशतं ग्रहाणां च तथा सप्तशताधिकम्
For the planets, four hundred, and likewise, seven hundred more are prescribed.
तिथ्यंगभागः शेषेण ग्रहे सप्तशताधिकम्
The tithi portion, with the remainder, is seven hundred more for the planet.
ग्रहांगे यः स्थितो भागो युगलं भागशेषतः
The portion that remains in the planetary part is a pair, as the remainder of the part.
शांतिके पौष्टिके काम्ये यदीच्छेत्सुखमात्मनः
In rites for peace, nourishment, or desire, if one wishes happiness for oneself—
त्र्यहसाध्ये विधानं यत्पुरैवोदीरितं द्विजाः
The procedure to be accomplished in three days has already been stated, O twice-born.
पूर्वस्मिन्दिवसेऽनिष्टे सहस्रं त्रिशतोत्तरम् ( १३००) ।। इतरेषां ग्रहाणां च प्रत्येकं तु शतं शतम्( १००) ।। 2.3.20.
On the previous day, for misfortune, one thousand three hundred are prescribed; for each of the other planets, one hundred each.
अधिप्रत्यधिदेवानां पंचाशद्धोम उच्यते ।। प्रथमेह्नि प्रदद्याच्च मिलित्वा त्रिसहस्रकम्( ३०००)
For the presiding and subordinate deities, fifty homa offerings are prescribed; on the first day, having combined them, three thousand are to be given.
द्वितीयदिवसेऽनिष्टे द्विसहस्रमुदाहृतम् ( २०००) ।। प्रति ग्रहेभ्यस्त्रिशतं दद्यादष्ट शताधिकम्( १०८)
On the second day, for misfortune, two thousand are prescribed; for each planet, three hundred, and eight more than a hundred.
उपग्रहेभ्यो दद्याच्च षोडशभ्यो यथाक्रमम्
He should give to the subsidiary planets, in order, to all sixteen.
एवं द्वितीयदिवसे मिलित्वा षट्सहस्रकम् ( ६०००)
In this way, on the second day, having gathered, six thousand are to be offered.
तत्प्रत्येकं ग्रहाणां च द्वाचत्वारिंशदुच्यते
For each of those planets, forty-two is prescribed.
तृतीयदिवसे दद्यान्मिलित्वैकसहस्रकम् ( १०००)
On the third day, he should give, having gathered, one thousand.
धनंजयाय होमैकमेकं चायुतमुच्यते
For Dhanañjaya, a single oblation is said to be ten thousand.
ग्रहाणां त्रिसहस्रं तु पंचानां च सहस्रकम्
For the planets, three thousand, and for five, one thousand each.
