एकराशिस्थिताः पापाः शनिभौमदिवाकराः
If rain arises from a cloud and falls upon a stone surface—
अभिचारं गते जीवे शनौ च तत्र नागते
When malefic planets—Saturn, Mars, and the Sun—are situated in one sign,
सूर्यमपश्यनो द्वंद्वं दिग्दाहश्च तथैव च
If the soul has departed due to sorcery, but not when Saturn has not arrived there.
भूकम्प एव मासे च एकमासे तथा दिने 2.3.20.
There is an earthquake in a month, and in a single month or even in a day.
दर्शनं खरवातस्य ग्रहयुद्धस्य दर्शनम्
There is the sight of a harsh wind and the appearance of planetary battles.
आकाशेऽप्यथ भूमौ च तत्र मण्डूकमेव च दर्शने राष्ट्रदुर्भिक्षमकरं नृपतिक्षयः
In the sky and on the earth, and also the appearance of a frog; when seen, it causes famine in the kingdom and the destruction of rulers.
चैत्रे कुम्भे नदीवेगदर्शने विप्लवो भवेत्
In the month of Caitra, in Aquarius, if there is a sight of a river's surge, there will be upheaval.
आकृष्णेनेति मन्त्रेण अथ वार्केण यत्नतः ।। प्रासादतोरणं तत्र द्वारं३.४३ प्राकारवेश्म च
With the mantra 'ākṛṣṇena' or with 'vārka', carefully, the gateway, the entrance arch, and the outer wall of the palace should be addressed.
धान्यसारं गवां सारं कूपे कुम्भप्रदर्शनम्
The essence of grain, the wealth of cows, and the appearance of a pot in a well.
सहस्रं जुहुयाद्वाथ ततः शांतिर्भवेद्ध्रुवम्
If one offers a thousand oblations, then peace will certainly be attained.
श्वेतोलूको बृहंश्चैव द्रोणकाकश्च कोकिलः
A white owl, a vulture, a crow of the droṇa kind, and a cuckoo—
गृहे तस्य महोत्पातो भविष्यति न संशयः
In the house of that person, there will be a great calamity, without doubt.
हाराः कटकटायंते जातस्य दंतसम्भवः सर्पमण्डूकप्रसवः कुंभे वापि क्वचिद्भवेत्
Necklaces rattle, teeth are born, the birth of snakes and frogs may occur in a pot or elsewhere.
निमित्तान्येवमादीनि जायंते यस्य वेश्मनि 2.3.20.
Such omens as these arise in the house of a person.
अशनिः पतते यत्र गृहे वज्रं च पादपे
Where lightning strikes a house or thunderbolt strikes a tree—
खर्जूर उदरावर्ते निकोचगरलेऽपि च
A date palm in the region of the belly, or even with the poison of the nikoca tree.
उद्याने देवगेहे च स्वगृहे चैत्यवृक्षके ततः शांतिर्भवेदाशु धेनुं दद्याच्च दक्षिणाम्
In a garden, in a temple, in one's own house, or at a sacred tree— then, for peace, one should quickly give a cow as a gift.
पायसं तिलमुद्गौ च पुष्पं वा तालवृन्तकम्
Rice pudding, sesame, mudga beans, or flowers, or the spadix of a palmyra palm.
सिंहासनं रथच्छत्रं ध्वजश्चामरभूषिते
A throne, a chariot, an umbrella, a banner, and a chowrie adorned—
नदयंति च सत्यस्योज्ज्वलनं स्त्रीपुरुषयोः
They make a sound, and the fire of truth blazes up between woman and man.
उपरिष्टाद्भवेद्यस्य महोत्पातो भवेदयम्
If such a great portent arises above, this will be a great calamity.
रुदितं कोकिलस्यापि उलूकोप्यशुभं वदेत् हस्तिनो मदयुक्ताश्च म्रियंते नात्र संशयः
Even the weeping of a cuckoo, or the cry of an owl, is considered inauspicious; and elephants filled with must die—of this there is no doubt.
ताडीपूगादयो यत्र यमौ स्यातां प्रमादतः
Wherever toddy palms and areca palms are struck down suddenly, there Yama is present due to heedlessness.
बद्धपुष्पे यदा पुष्पं फलं वा यदि दृश्यते दधि मधु घृतं चैव जुहुयादयुतं द्विजाः ।।2.3.20.
If a flower or fruit is seen on a plant whose flowers are already tied, the twice-born should offer curd, honey, and ghee together as an oblation.
पालाशं सोममुद्दिश्य सोमस्य च भवेद्दिने
On the day dedicated to Soma, one should offer the palāśa tree to Soma.
उत्पतंति गृहे यस्य यवा माषाश्च पुष्कलाः
If barley and black gram sprout abundantly in someone's house, it is a portent.
अकस्माद्गृहदाहस्तु अनग्निज्वलनं यथा
If a house catches fire suddenly, as if without any visible flame,
व्याधिलीना विनश्यंति निखिलाः पशुमानुषाः ३४ राजामात्यविनाशाय गेहे गेही विनश्यति
All animals and humans afflicted with disease perish; for the destruction of the king and his ministers, the householder perishes in his house.
दृष्ट्वा वाभद्रमत्युग्रं जुहुयादयुतं क्रमात्
Having seen a very terrible inauspicious sign, one should offer oblations in due order.
अग्निर्मूद्धेंति मंत्रेण श्रपितं लोहितं चरुम् स्वर्णमंगारमुद्दिश्य ततः शांतिः प्रजायते
With a mantra, fire is kindled; an oblation of clarified butter mixed with blood is offered, designating gold or charcoal—thereby peace is attained.
