नत्वा स मातुलं धीमांस्तथान्याँश्च सभासदः

कूपे दृष्ट्वा शुभा नार्यो घटपूर्तिकरीस्तदा

दृष्ट्वा ताः सुंदरं रूपं मोहनायोपचक्रिरे
Seeing their beautiful forms, they began to act in a way to enchant him.
वनं गत्वा रिपुं जित्वा बद्ध्वा तमुभयं बली
Going to the forest, conquering his enemy, the mighty one bound both of them.
श्रुत्वा स करुणं वाक्यं त्यक्त्वा स्वनगरं ययौ 3.3.11.
Hearing those sorrowful words, he abandoned his own city and departed.
श्रुत्वा परिमलो राजा द्विजातिभ्यो ददौ धनम्
Hearing this, King Parimala gave wealth to the twice-born.
संप्राप्तैकादशदाब्दे तु कृष्णांशे युद्धदुर्मदे
When the eleventh year had arrived, in the dark half, during a time of war-madness,
बलिं यथोचितं दत्त्वा भगिन्यै भयकातरः
He gave the proper tribute to his sister, being fearful.
अगमा भगिनी तस्य दृष्ट्वा भ्रातरमातुरम्
His sister came, having seen her brother in distress.
अद्याहं स्वबलैः सार्द्धं गत्वा तत्र महावतीम्
Today, together with my own forces, I will go there to the great city.
इत्युक्त्वा धुंधुकारं च समाहूय महाबलम्
Having said this, he summoned Dhundhukara, the mighty one.
केचिच्छूरा हयारूढा उष्ट्रारूढा महाबलाः
Some heroes, mounted on horses and camels, were exceedingly strong.
देवसिंहस्तु कालज्ञः श्रुत्वा चागमनं रिपोः
But Devasimha, who knew the proper time, heard of the enemy's approach.
श्रुत्वा परिमलो राजा विह्वलोऽभूद्भयातुरः
Hearing this, King Parimala became agitated and filled with fear.
अद्याहं च महीराजं धुंधुकारं ससैन्यकम् 3.3.11.
Today I, along with Dhundhukara and his army, will face the great king.
इत्युक्त्वा तं नमस्कृत्य सेनापतिरभून्मुने
Having said this and bowed to him, he became the commander of the army, O sage.
चतुर्लक्षबलैः सार्द्धं ते युद्धाय समाययुः
Together with an army of four hundred thousand, they came for battle.
ऊषुस्तत्र रणे मत्ताः सर्वशत्रुभयंकराः
There in the battle, they stayed, intoxicated, terrifying all their enemies.
कृत्वा कोलाहलं शब्दं युद्धाय समुपाययुः
Having raised a tumultuous sound, they advanced for battle.
शतघ्नीभिस्त्रिसाहस्रैः पञ्चसाहस्रका ययुः
With three thousand and five thousand machines for hurling missiles, they proceeded.
सैन्यं षष्टिसहस्रं च स्वगर्लोकमुपाययौ
An army of sixty thousand approached their own realm.
दुद्रुवुर्भीरुकाः शूरा वलखानेर्दिशो दश
The timid fled, while the heroes, the Valakhilyas, scattered in ten directions.
हया हयैस्तथा उष्ट्रा उष्ट्रपैश्च समाहनन्
Horses struck against horses, and camels clashed with camels.
हाहाभूतान्स्वकीयांश्च सैन्यान्दृष्ट्वा महाबलान्
Seeing their own mighty armies overcome, the Hāhā spirits cried out.
ब्रह्मानंदः शरैः शत्रूननयद्यमसादनम् 3.3.11.
Brahmanda, with arrows, sent the enemies to the abode of Yama.
बलखानिः स्वखड्गेन कृष्णांशस्तु तथैव च
Balakhani, with his sword, struck down the Krishnas as well.
