जयंत्याः सोमवृक्षस्य तथा सोमवटस्य च
Of the Jayanti soma tree and also of the soma fig tree.
पाटला कनकस्यैव शाल्मलीनिंबकस्य च
Of the patala tree, of gold, and of shalmali and neem trees as well.
भद्रकस्य शमीकोणचंडातकबकस्य च
Of Bhadraka, Shamika, Onacha, Chanda, Ataka, and Bakaka.
प्रतिष्ठाविशेषनियमवर्णनम् । वृक्षादीनां प्रतिष्ठां च उत्तमेषूत्तमं चरेत्
Description of the special rules for installation: among trees and the like, one should choose the best for the best purposes.
वर्तुलं मंडलं कुर्यात्तत्तु शीर्षे तथान्त्यके
One should make a circular mandala, both at the head and at the end.
पूर्वेद्यू रात्रिसमये घटं संस्थाप्य पूजयेत्
On the previous day, at night, one should place a pot and worship it.
गंधतोयेन गायत्र्या सेतुं संपूज्य मोक्षयेत्
With fragrant water and the Gayatri mantra, one should worship the bridge and release it.
दद्याद्गन्धादिकं श्रीश्च ते लक्ष्मीरिति चन्दनम्
One should offer sandalwood and other fragrances, saying 'You are Shri, you are Lakshmi.'
शन्नोदेवीति मन्त्रेण दद्यात्कुशपवित्रकम्
With the mantra 'Shanno Devi,' one should offer a ring of sacred grass.
अञ्जनालक्तकं कुर्यान्मनोन्ना इति संपठन्
One should apply collyrium and lac dye, reciting 'Manonna.'
वरयेदथ आचार्यं होतारं नृवरश्चरेत्
Then one should appoint an ācārya and a hotṛ, and the best of men should act.
सेतुयागे विधातव्यं तथा धान्याचलेपि च
This should be performed in the setu-yāga, as well as on a heap of grain.
यजेदेनं कृते मौलियागार्थं यागमंडपम् 2.3.16.
Having done this, one should sacrifice for the purpose of the mauli-yāga in the sacrificial pavilion.
विघ्नग्रहाँल्लोकपालान्सर्वसिद्धिप्रदायकान्
To remove obstacles and malevolent influences, one should worship the guardians of the world, who grant all success.
तत्रैव तु वराहाख्यं प्रतीतमृत्विगुत्तमम्
There itself, the renowned priest called Varaha, the best among priests, is to be engaged.
आज्येन तु वराहस्य होमपञ्चकमीरितम् । ततस्तिलयवेनैव एकैकामाहुतिं क्रमात्
With clarified butter, the fivefold offering to Varaha is prescribed; then, with sesame and barley, one should make one oblation each in order.
बलिं दद्यात्पृथग्रूपं शेषयेद्विधिपूर्वकम्
One should offer separate forms of bali, and leave the remainder according to the rule.
माषभक्तं तु लोकाय पृथिव्यै परमान्नकम्
For the people, one should offer a dish of black gram, and for the earth, the best kind of cooked rice.
( ॐ अद्येत्यादि एकविंशतिकुलस्य विशिष्टस्वर्गप्राप्तय इमं सेतुं संक्रमसमेतं विष्णुदैवतं सुरपूजितं विधिवद्वासुदेवस्य प्रीतयेऽहमुत्सृजे पिच्छिले पतितानां च उद्गतेनाङ्गभङ्गतः
(Om, today, for the attainment of the special heaven of the twenty-one families, I release this bridge, together with the crossing, dedicated to Vishnu, worshipped by the gods, according to the rule, for the pleasure of Vasudeva— for those who have fallen on slippery ground, and for those whose limbs are broken by rising up.
सेतोरस्य प्रबन्धस्य श्रद्धया परया युतः
With supreme faith, one should be endowed for the binding of this bridge.
वेदागमेन यत्पुण्यं कथितं सेतुबन्धने
The merit described in the Vedas and Āgamas concerning the building of a bridge—
यूपं दद्यादिति मन्त्रेण अन्ते चापि तथा ध्वजान्
With the mantra 'Let one offer the sacrificial post,' and likewise at the end, banners as well—
पूर्णां दत्त्वा सवित्रेऽर्घ्यं दत्त्वा च स्वगृहं व्रजेत् 2.3.16.
Having given a full offering to Savitṛ, and having offered arghya, one should return to one's own home.
पूर्वं च दधिवासं च प्रभाते विप्रभोजनम्
Previously, curd and rice should be given, and in the morning, food to the Brāhmaṇas.
विष्णुं शिवं हुताशं च एककुण्डे समर्चयेत्
Viṣṇu, Śiva, and Agni should be worshipped in a single fire-pit.
कुर्यादेकैकशो विप्रा अष्टा विंशतिसंख्यया ज्ञातिभिः सह भुञ्जीत कृतकृत्योऽभिधीयते
One should perform for each Brāhmaṇa, numbering twenty-eight, and eat together with relatives; such a person is said to have fulfilled their duty.
गोप्रचारविधिवर्णनम् षष्टिहस्तमितां भूमिं तस्य पूर्णां मनोरमाम्
Description of the procedure for grazing cows: A plot of land, sixty hastas in measure, complete and pleasing—
प्रचारार्थं गवां चैव यो दद्यात्सुसमाहितः
Whoever, with full intent, gives such land for the purpose of grazing cows—
तदर्धं च तदर्धं च तदर्धं वा समुत्सृजेत्
Or gives half of that, or half of that again, or even half of that—
अलंकारं विना धेनुं फलस्यार्धं प्रकीर्तितम्
A cow without ornaments is said to yield half the fruit.
