क्षीरधारां च संपाद्य अर्घ्यं दत्त्वा गृहं व्रजेत्
Having performed the pouring of milk and given arghya, one should return home.
वटप्रतिष्ठाविधानवर्णनम् त्रिहस्तवेदिमुपरि स्थापयेत्कलशत्रयम्
Description of the rite for installing the banyan tree: Place three pots above the altar, each a span apart.
गणेशं च शिवं विष्णुं पूजयित्वा हुनेच्चरुम्
Having worshipped Ganesha, Shiva, and Vishnu, one should offer the cooked oblation.
यवक्षीरबलिं दद्यादुत्सृजेद्वाक्यमुच्चरन्
One should give an offering of barley and milk, reciting the prescribed words.
यक्षान्नागांश्च गंधर्वान्सिद्धांश्चैव मरुद्गणान्
To Yakshas, Nagas, Gandharvas, Siddhas, and the hosts of Maruts.
बिल्वप्रतिष्ठाविधानवर्णनम् त्र्यंबकं चेति मंत्रेण स्थापयेद्गंधवारिणा
Description of the rite for installing the bilva tree: With the mantra 'Tryambakam,' establish it with fragrant water.
सुनाभेति च मंत्रेण मे गृह्णामीति चाक्षतम्
With the mantra 'Sunabha,' and saying 'I take,' with unbroken rice.
यजेद्रुद्रं ततो देवं मध्ये दुर्गां धनेश्वरम्
Then worship Rudra, and in the center, Durga and Dhaneshvara.
स्वगृहे सप्त विप्रांश्च भोजयेद्द्विजदंपती
In one's own house, feed seven Brahmins and their wives.
तत्र गैरिकयुक्तेन कुसुंभचूर्णकेन वा
There, with red ochre or with kusumbha powder.
निवेष्टनं ततः कुर्याद्वृक्षस्य द्विजसत्तमाः
Then, O best of twice-born, one should prepare the site for planting the tree.
व्रीहींश्च वापयेत्तत्र उत्तराभिमुखस्तथा
And there, facing north, one should sow rice grains.
शिवं च नायकं कुर्यादादित्यान्पत्रमूलके
One should also establish an image of Shiva as the leader, with leaves and roots of the sun-plant.
वनपालं च सोमं च सूर्यं पृध्वीमनुक्रमात्
In order, one should install the forest-guardian, Soma, the Sun, and the Earth.
यक्षेभ्यो माषभक्तं च वायनानि च द्वादश 2.3.10.१० कांचनं कांस्यपात्रं च तांबूलं ताम्रपात्रकम्
For the Yakshas, one should offer cooked beans, twelve kinds of garments, a golden or bronze vessel, betel in a copper cup.
अथ रात्रिप्रतिष्ठां च वक्ष्ये शास्त्रानुसारतः
Now, I shall describe the nighttime installation according to the scriptures.
पूर्वेद्युरुपवाहे तु वृक्षमूले घटं न्यसेत्
On the previous day, at the root of the tree, one should place a pot.
कलशान्पञ्च वा सप्त गंधतैलैरलंकृतान्
Five or seven pots, adorned with fragrant oils.
सूत्रैः संवेष्टनं कृत्वा वस्त्रमाल्यैरनंतरम्
Having wrapped them with threads, then with cloth and garlands.
विष्णुसूक्तेन च पुनः सिंदूरांजनचंदनम्
Again, with the Vishnu hymn, one should apply vermilion, collyrium, and sandalwood.
हुनेत्पंचाहुतीस्तत्र यूपं दद्यात्समुत्सृजेत्
One should offer five oblations there, set up the sacrificial post, and perform the release.
बलिं च पायसेनैव प्रकुर्यात्कर्णवेधनम्
And one should make a bali offering with rice pudding and perform the ear-piercing ceremony.
दद्यादर्घ्यं हुनेत्पूर्णं भोजयेद्द्विजदंपती
One should offer a full arghya, make oblations, and feed a pair of Brahmins.
सद्वृक्षप्रतिष्ठाविधानवर्णनम् पूगाम्रादिफलैर्युक्तं वास्तुं कृत्वा यजेत्तु यः
Description of the rite for establishing a good tree: Whoever, having made the site with areca, mango, and other fruits, performs the sacrifice—
षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि स्वर्गलोके वसेच्चिरम्
He dwells for sixty thousand years in the world of heaven.
नित्यं निर्वर्त्य विधिवत्पंच विप्रान्समर्चयेत्
Having performed it daily according to rule, he should worship five Brahmins.
अग्निकार्यं ततः कृत्वा दद्याद्विप्राय दक्षिणाम्
Then, having performed the fire-rite, he should give a gift to the Brahmin.
मण्डपप्रतिष्ठाविधानवर्णनम् तृणकाष्ठस्य च विभो तृणवत्तस्य च द्विजाः
Description of the rite for establishing a pavilion: O twice-born, for one made of grass or wood, just as for one made of grass—
अधिवासस्य पूर्वेद्युः शुभे लग्ने घटं न्यसेत्
On the previous day, at an auspicious moment, one should place the pot for consecration.
प्रोक्षयेत्कुशतोयेन आपोहिष्ठेति वै ऋचा
He should sprinkle it with water using kuśa grass, reciting the Ṛc 'āpohiṣṭa.'
